Stayed tuned for next week's game of thrones episode at Arden Street...

Bring him home. The line coaches need a good shake up after what they dished out the past couple of years. Especially with B1 and B2 at the helm.

Age article states : Sources indicated the decision on Jade was part of a sweeping decision from the club board to radically overhaul the entirety of the football program from this year at all levels. Furthermore

The AFL has ruled that any redundancy payments made by clubs this year to reduce staff in line with a reduced soft cap on footy spending next year – a consequence of the league's austerity measures as a COVID response – will not be included in the soft cap for 2021.

That has led to the farcical situation at some clubs where staff will be paid out their contracts for all of next year despite not working at the club. These are clubs that are financial enough to keep the staff on and would rather see them remain and work, but the AFL is insistent they get employees off the books.

Maybe he can come back and all you Goodwin haters don't get ideas

Yep but u watch next season they will go past us.

No. It will take a few years to put this broken mess together. They didn’t listen to Brad Scott and are now paying a very heavy price

If that is right perhaps there is hope to get rid of Goodwin

Can’t see any team getting near North and the wooden spoon next year.
bizarre off season already and it’s barely started!

We need fresh eyes. Pass from me.

Get him back in the coaching team.

He can take over as care taker when we sack Goodwin mid year.

Yet he very nearly got the Freo job because their board were so impressed with him.

Sorry he wasn't close to getting the Freo job.  Longmuir, Carr and Solomon were the 3 in the running.

I don't actually mind Jade as a coach

Interesting. I heard Yze was close. Do you know if he interviewed for the Freo job?

Interesting, because a Freo supporter who spoke to Adem told me that one. It didn't entirely add up, so perhaps it was wrong.

Yeah, bring Rawlings back home to the MFC...

Well according to Jade’s manager Liam Pickering he just missed out on the Fremantle coaching job. Seems odd that you would say that on radio if it wasn’t the case.

Anyway I think Jade will be one of the lucky assistant coaches and find another job.

Surely we’re chatting to him. He was one of our really good coaches, he’s proven, and he enjoys a good relationship with the players.

I also hope we’re in Dean Solomon’s ear.

Do nth have to pay out the remainder of his 2 years. Gee that's a bit awkward moving your brother on.

Nth seem to be a rabble. They want to trade there forward, I mean who will kick there goals next year?

Higgins may move on which to me is a mistake because he has been great for them and provides experience.

On another note I see essendon have put sheedy on there board. Isn't time essendon moved on and started new without him. I mean they sacked him as coach years ago and he is still there in the background. I know he was obviously at gws but surely at some stage you have to cut the apron strings.

The money will be spent on Paul Roos as Rhys' right hand man

"Yeah, unfortunately Jade wasn't up to it ... Freo didn't think much of him ... but we're hopeful of landing him a coaching gig at another club in spite of that."

Not saying that's what really happened, but if Pickering said it was night time you'd look outside to make sure.

I think what's going to happen league-wide is that the AFL will help pay out a strategic amount of excess FD soft cap at each club. Given they're imposing austerity measures, they need to be sure that club's can structure their FDs in a competitive way, otherwise it'll just mean the AFL has to pump more money into certain clubs down the line.

In such a volatile time, the AFL has to make sure all 18 clubs offer their memberships something in the near future, otherwise we could see 2 or more clubs fold. This means smaller broadcast deals and the potentiality of having to up the number of yearly fixtures to cover the shortfall in the smaller broadcast deal. At a point that becomes unsustainable too. The 38 games in the English Premiere League season are not comparable with 38 games of AFL football.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
