This 1 sticks with me at 14:10 from the boundary during a rampaging comeback during the 2002 semi final.
Had me redlining bigtime.

Great goal but that was such a bitter loss. Amazing game though, probably one of the best we've been involved in.

Hearing you man.
The 2nd and 3rd qrs was some of the best football I've seen us play.
The 1st and last were garbage.
That game was typical MFC in a nutshell.

Just an ordinary home and away game, but I remember him taking a massive pack mark in the goal square against North in 2002 to boot the winner on the siren.

Loved him ever since.

or his hanger at Kardinia Park, where Brad Miller literally almost killed Tom Lonergan, who then had a kidney removed, and we snatched a draw from the jaws of victory :(

I think this game was the most exciting, and ultimately the most depressing, game I have ever watched.

I watched it with my now deceased Uncle, and we were both in tears after it.

Sad aside - when I said goodbye to him in hospital many years later, his last ever words to me were ... ‘Go the Dees’.

Some classic commentary. The “sit down Daics”, “ I can’t, I’ve got cramp” still makes me laugh.

Yeah I was gutted too.
Was sure we were headed for the prelim at 3/4 time as we looked unstoppable.
I remember an interview with Trapper Johnson after the match.
Never have you seen a bloke more pleased after losing a final.
He'd played a blinder for 2qrs and stated he had nothing left in the last ...... Typical.

David Teague on the left?

Supremely talented as a player but also very cerebral.

His positioning in contests and knowing when to jump and when to get front and centre was sublime. He was also able to play a range of positions, half back, midfield and close to goal.

Would be a good fit and a great mentor to guys like Fritch and Trac

Fritsch seems a close fit to Yze in lots of ways.

Fritsch actually reminds me of Brad Green. Both lovely left footers.

Great stuff.

Troy Broadbridge with the final mark of the game. So sad what happened to him.

Best quarter of football I have ever seen played by an MFC player.

Travis J had incredible skill but... well we all know the but

Just heard Gaz Lyon on SEN saying there might be another assistant leaving the Hawthorn nest,  he was waiting for confirmation before going with it, but 100% he was talking about Yze... i suspect this is very much in play and hopefully happens sooner rather than late.

Heard same thing. Looking stronger now, and I like this rumour.

If it happens cue DLs version of The Life Of Brian's what did the Romans ever do for us sketch:

'Ok, apart from getting Alan Richardson, Burgess and Yze what did Mahoney ever do for us???'

On Mahoney getting Richardson, i chuckle at the thought of the correlation between the posters bemoaning his appointment on the grounds he was sacked and has an average win loss ratio as senior coach and those who think the Hawks are the gold standard in everything football. You know, the club that just appointed as their Coaching director a sacked senior coach with one of the worst win loss ration in the history of football.

You are not wrong there, just because a person has failed as a senior coach does not lessen the fact that they make excellent assistant and development coaches and at times heads of football departments. There are numerous examples of this.

Correct, and up to 6 clubs explored getting  Richardson on their team, so its a great appointment.

There is a subset of posters who will see this as an elaborate AFL conspiracy to make us think that he was highly sort after and therefore make us pay overs for him.

That is a fact, unfortunately.

Lets just wait on this...

Lyon has probably seen the rumour here...hi Gary, and is going through his channels to see if there is any truth to it.

I hope there is.

At least Gary has the right connections to find out if it's on the money.

We should know in the next few days.

2 r's in Garry.

Yeah im pretty sure he hasn't got it from here but maybe.. im pretty convinced Yze is a realistic chance to cross to the Dees and like you say, all will be revealed anyway in the coming days.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
