I'll also add that I am taking solace in the fact that we might have contributed somewhat into a star player leaving the Pies in the future.

And the pies paying overs next year for him.

Would anyone else wish injury on a player if he used us as leverage to get a better deal out of his current club, more so to cause a detriment to that club? Because I wouldn’t......................

I think what would've happened is we waited to do the Tomlinson signing before we knew we were out on Elliott so we could front load Tomlinson. Probably front load Langdon as well.

That way we end up not only saving what we would've paid Elliott but having more flexibility to make a move on bigger names as well as signing all our out of contract guys like Fritsch and Petracca up.

Somewhat disappointed to lose him but if we were going to bounce back to a good side next year we were going to do it with or without Elliott. Long term we need goal kicking options but I'd still be looking for forwards who provide more up the ground and midfield threats and great defensive pressure.

Elliott would've been nice, but De Goey and Stephenson are far better players and we need a guy like that and/or a guy like Will Hoskin-Elliott who can get up the ground too.

Elliott is a huge blow looks like it will be Butler then.

As I said at the very beginning, Eddie won't allow it and it won't happen.

Now go after Tom Langdon.

He and his management have played it very well, will have an increased offer from the Pies with triggers for a 3rd year if he stays fit.

I'm glad we didn't go desperate and up the offer to 4 years.

Something will have to give at Collingwood next year

An injury free Elliot would have been awesome, but given his track record for some time now, its more likely he spends large chunks of the season on the sidelines injured with a fat cheque.

He was seeking better terms and a longer contract and got it from other teams but still don't leave, so clearly he was never leaving and was playing the game. 3 years was a pretty big risk so not feeling too bad about it.

Can’t miss what we don’t have.

NEXT.

Correct.  It was a game play.  We don't need that psychological twist in mentality.  Bring on players who are worth their salt and who have pride in their abilities.

Well then .... then puts a sock in the narrative. Instead of us being so hopeless we can't even attract an injury prone small forward, the new plot line is, we have done our bit to screw over our oldest enemy. GO DEMONS!!!

I don’t think we were ever in control but I’m happy that the Pies salary cap is collateral damage in this whole charade.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
