The video in this article is damning and shows Salem costing us a good 3-4 goals

We have all been looking at him through goggles due to his good disposal earlier in the year however this is not acceptable.

There is no trust between team mates at this point. Everything is breaking down.

We need real leaders on field

I think his foot speed is too slow and opposition coaches are exposing it, his always oftenly struggling to keep up with his opponent.

He had a leg injury of some sort in the first quarter.  And not many defenders to work with him.

Commentators are now combing every bit of vision to try and show up a 'poor' patch by a Demon player.

Not all those goals were to do with Salem.  Long bow drawn by KIng.

Has one bad game and now there is something wrong with him.

Will be top 5 in B&F. Perhaps a smokey.

Surprised that olisik isn’t calling for him to be traded or delisted already.

He is having a [censored] end to the season - who hasn’t?

I’m not calling for him to be traded however I would like to see him played in a different position (wing, center, forward)

SW i agree with the trust side BUT ....as an experienced defender you KNOW and play in a way to ensure you don't let your direct opponent get goal side that easily ..that often!  Once in a while you are going to lose them in transition but that vision is damning.

Personal pride as a player/defender you say "im going to play my best and in a way that will prevent you scoring easy goals out the back or ANY if i have a say".

Where is the pride/passion in this group to be the best they can be?

No amount of training/coaching brings that to such an experienced player.  At this point it has to come from within.

In part this is a list problem in the main.  We just don't have the quality depth at this point to say "mate...good try on the weekend but we 're sorry to say those standards (we went through in the video review) are completely unacceptable at any level, let alone AFL. We need you to spend some quality time at Casey and rectify this if you can".

You then bring in a decent replacement.

I agree with King on this.

While he may be just as bad in terms of what he brings right now (or worse!) you have to set standards and make statements that certain performances are not acceptable.  Hunt in for Salem!

Baker in for Clarry (we love alot of what you do Clayton BUT...pull your head in mate...you aren't an A grade champion yet.  You want to get there?  You're going to have to change some aspects of how you play the game...including your attitude, starting now!).

Salem had a good first 1/2 of 2019

BUT

now either turnovers the footy or does a 15 metre chip wide or to no one

should be hitting targets with 40 metre clearances

poor 2nd half and has been either injured or lost all chance confidence

He’s usually got good disposal. He has always been poor defensively. Coaches look to go through his man when he plays in the backline, because he is a legitimate liability defensively. It’s not that he doesn’t go or put husbands body on the line, he just usually loses one on ones when he needs to kill a contest. Last night was standard Salem defensively, but unfortunately his disposal was unusually poor so his poor game stands out more.

Has been one of our more consistent.

Doesn’t deserve the criticism like most of his teammates.

What has happened to Salem?    Well ... WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ALL OF THEM ????????

Like so many in the AFL, he is a midfielder who gets put on the hbf to provide rebound but doesn’t know how to defend that well, he has learnt a lot and is a million times better than say Fritsch at it, but he ain’t a natural defender. Good forwards beat him to space.

Pride and Passion have been smashed out of the club this year, it began in September 2018 in Perth.

How it has been smashed and by whom, must be found out this off season or else nothing will change.

This club has very dodgy DNA ?

Needs to get way fitter over pre-season.

That 2013 trade for him and Tyson has turned out to be a master stroke by Roos.

LT he is super slow...almost too slow across ground to cover a HF with reasonable pace.  And most quality HFs have it.

Does that mean he is also too slow for a wing or to play HF himself like some have suggested this season, including myself?

If so where does he play?  Trade package / option for someone with speed or no?

Stated he was overrated a couple weeks ago and got howled down.
Dinky 15m passes don't cut it, let alone the ones that get turned over (most times in the corridor).

Once the team has lost confidence, in a season where everything is going wrong, it just spreads and I think has caught Salem!

He isn’t a great defender would prefer see him wing or half forward occasionally going into middle for clean disposal!

i'm not worried about his disposal too much as teams are putting more effort into him lately and half the time there's no one for him to kick to anyway because none of his team mates work hard enough. but he is not a good defender. he's bloody ordinary under the high ball with poor spoils, body work and marking, and like a lot of our defenders he gets lead up the ground then turned around to expose his lack of speed and agility. should be playing hff/wing where he has the time and space to use his skills to better effect.

Great summation of where the club stands right now SWYL.

Many turnovers from Salem disposals for quite a few weeks now

Confidence shot like the rest of the team.   Doesn’t have a target most of the time.

Mono it is the reason I believe our history is connected. It lurks in the background

55 years and we don’t rule the MCG for many reasons....

Garry Lyon said it last night. We are an Emotional Club. Up and dow. We don’t just get the job done.

If Goodwin and Mahoney don’t sort out a solution they will be gone sometime next year.

A young man who was probably one of our best 3 players for most of the year.  We have a number of key players who are ‘down’ on form - if they pick up, things will improve dramatically.  Salem is a bit down, but it has been a hard year carrying this mob.

Also down, by my reckoning:

Brayshaw, Hunt, Hibbard, Melksham, ANB (so far down...), TMAC, Weid, Jones, Viney, Lever (injured, finding touch)

We then have a whole string of VFL level players that we could carry one or two for roles, but not half a team.,

Seriously, we have been injured, out of form, and seriously down on confidence.  We are approaching the most important off season in the last decade

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
