So, I'm not generally in the "sack Goodwin" camp, although I do think he's under massive pressure, but can someone explain something to me?

Why pick one of the smallest teams ever, and then make the game plan slow and long down the line?

Structure, structure, structure. Must have at least one tall in the forward line. This is incredible to watch, especially when the mids are clearly bombing it long to the non-existant tall.

Yep Goodwins lost these players.

I’ve turned off, that last 3-4min of play was pure garbage. Stupid footy, with us coughing up opportunities for us and them getting a shot on goal right before half time.

Another goalless quarter, total ineptitude. I was going to name specific players but really almost the entire team coughing up DEAD BASIC kicks/handballs.

Our “good” players are not performing well either. Gawn is the one player doing his job well, Level and Hibberd are trying to hold out in defence but when it comes down there it’s under so little pressure it makes it hard for them.

But Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, Jones, Harmes are getting murdered in the middle. And while I’m mentioning Oliver, what the F was that shot on goal? He needs to be nailing them 90% of the time.

We are so pathetically bad it’s excruciating.

Just saw some daming vision of Clayton Oliver on Fox Footy half time.

It's Friday night, I can't believe I'm watching this.

You'll be on your own soon,  viewers surely won't put themselves thru this putrid drivel for much longer.

Beyond awful.

No more Friday games for us for a few years

Good theatrics going on out there

Longmire carrying on like a pork chop to feign interest

Macca patting guys on the bum as they're coming off, trying to gee them up

The commentators talking about Hamilton and Fred Fanning

And Bruce commentating on the seagulls

Awesome

Meanwhile, we are [censored] - Jonesy, thanks for your service

Really are we surprised with the team we have out there?

4 midgets and we bomb it high and can’t stick a tackle.

Very predictable.

does not matter if they are  midgets or talls they have all had plenty of opportunity to get tackle the swans players and have failed to do so. Max is the only one i see doing a good job. We are slow to move the ball and we cannot hit a target. ANB should not be out there, sorry but i dont see any place in the side as bad as it is for stretch, i wish i could but he is just not up to it. and i wish i knew what the hell salem is doing with his kicking its diabolical today.

I noticed it live and couldn't believe it.

What has happened to this team?

He’s gone missing this qtr, Swans KIDS are running rings around us.

If that is correct BA then the contrast of output / quality is astonishing between quarters.

Goody looks completely lost for answers in the box and shows no emotions at any point.  I would be furious at some of the passages of play as a team and from many individuals tonight.

Get to the bench, attempt to at least show them / highlight where they are going wrong immediately while the errors are still fresh and highlighting the alternative ways available to improve as a team and individual.

Well pointed out by Rooey.

Arrogance is debilitating... would love Oliver to have the vision and accuracy of fritta.

I’m ok with him staying on for one more year, but he should be on massively reduced coin and be glad that we’re giving him another run in the red and blue.

He obviously has himself as captain on supercoach. As do all our players .. it’s survival mode, team play is almost non existent.

It's true. We waited for so long for a few Friday night games. We got them, and look what we've done. It'll be 2050 before we see another one.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a more impotent forward line. Really regretting the decision to come to the G tonight.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
