How the [censored] can a club have eleventy zillion first round picks and still be so [censored]?

Not many of them want to put their body in line with the ball.

In the first half when conditions were tough they would put a hand out and the Hawks ran in straight lines.

It was some of their stars like Cameron & particularly Whitfield that were the biggest culprits.

Surprisingly I would also add Mumford to the list, not committing himself at the contest. He's playing for his super and very little else...tip toeing around like a baby elephant.

Davis, Hayne, Shaw & Green the only ones having a go.

What a shocking game this is.

Nothing exciting happens. 4 goals for an entire game.

Cameron is a Coach under the Radar

Talent alone does not make a successful team....  GWS conclusively proved that. Teams need to be developed and the right culture put in place.

So apparently they kicked there lowest score ever tonight. I know they have injuries but they still have talent out there. 4 goals and none in the 2nd half. That is just disgraceful and only 1 mark inside 50. I just wonder if the giants will ever get to the big stage let alone win one while they have all this talent on there list.

Gee I thought we were bad.

Manuka

Very different sort of snow at Metricon on the Gold Coast :)

Mumford is in his element

Manuka, Metricon, Mumford, Melbourne...Meh!

GWS totally outplayed. Interesting to see Yze in the Hawks coaches box at the end. Is there anyway we can get him back home next season to help Goody with some Clarko IP?

Interesting comments about Clarkson waltzing around without a shirt on at training in Canberra yesterday and then shorts tonight.

They may be on the the rebuild but there's some culture and leadership we could do with.

Which results will help us secure the best bottom 6 partners for next years draw?

What’s the bet one of our bottom 6 partners won’t be GC, despite finishing 17th.

Hawthorn are an incredible club. Years of success and no top draft pick but never bottom out. Have let go some genuine stars yet are already beating the like of Geelong; GWS etc. Plus they do it without a Brownlow medal winner thereby ignoring injuries as an excuse for mediocrity. You just know Clarkson will have this team back competing for premiership whilst we will still be arguing over who to pick with our number one draft pick. If you ever want to understand why Melbourne is an average club compare us to Hawthorn over 50 years. Yet we get a coach from Essendon. Surely if you have half a brain you get a coach from the Clarkson production line of assistant coaches. Just look at Brisbane with Fagan it pretty damn obvious.

I have long wanted him back as a kicking coach but seeing him watching the game so intently last night and the last couple of weeks, pointing out things on the field and dealing directly with AC it seems he is much more than a specialist coach. Looks like he is a genuine number 2. He would be a great addition to our group having worked closely under the angry man but I was told recently by a former player that Ooze was happy at Hawthorn. Still, we can hope.

True to a point...they built this group on the back of picks 2 and 5 in a super draft (2004) and pick 1 (2001) that won them  Hodge, Ruughie and Lance F...then they made some smart buys. They did in fact bottom out to get those picks and spent a few years bumbling around in the lower reaches in the early naughties while we were playing finals some of the time and they kept those players on the park for a long time.

Not arguing about the rightness of a Clarko trained coach however. See my comments re Yze.

For a team bound for the finals with pretensions to a top four spot, GWS’s waving of the white flag last night was shameful.

They'll have to be renamed the Greatest Western Semifinalists, as i think tonight probably sealed the deal on an incoming week 2 finals exit.

Possibly post of the decade

More likely week  1 on last nights form.

Go dogs tonight. Please please win. I suspect the cats will bounce back and beat nth and Port are at home and should beat sydney.

Disgraceful coaching from Cameron last night. Carey picked it up early with Hawthorn stacking the half back line in the cold and wet conditions. GWS still trying to pick the ball up instead of kicking off the ground, hand balling instead of kicking for distance, Mumford playing in forward line most of match, leaving Simpson in ruck instead.

GW$ are dropping right off in terms of the quality of their playing list

Their premiership window might well be shut

I guess Gill will have to manipulate the draft and give them the top 6 of next year’s bunch. And of course boost their cost of living allowance.

Get a coach from Hawthorn like GWS with Leon Cameron.

Nice foot pass

Priority Pick for Suns is in the mail I reckon, not that it will help much......and Go Bulldogs!

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
