Facilties.. include such things as indoor training, pools , special rehab centres and the list goes on.

Have you even looked at the super facilities enjoyed by Essendon and Freo just to mention two.

It goes way beyond an oval

So you think we might get Collingwood's facilities at Olympic Park plus all of Melb Victory's facilities at AAMI and Goschs? Rightio. Please put that forward to the State Govt. Good luck!

I'm not as well versed on this issue as many on here, but this latest proposal/rumour seems a lot more realistic.

Would plant us right in the heart of the Melbourne sports precinct.

Likely Scenario in search for a new ground.

A couple of officials of the MFC are warching training. An errant kick goes out on the full at the south end of Goschs Paddock and bounces end on end towards the freeway and river. In an instant one official says to another. There is our future. I can see it,. world class facilities up against a freeway and bordering probably the busiest Rd in Melbourne. Only at MFC was the one of answers we settle on right before their eyes all along

True, and there is no plan by Melbourne Victory to move there Senior training base.. Just wishful or fanciful thinking.

Racking up a lot of meh posts recently since joining the board Sorry. It's "their" btw and either "wishful" or "fanciful" is redundant. I'll leave your use of punctuation alone. Take your pick but don't feel the need to pontificate on everything you read. I thought the school holidays had finished.

I have a number of concerns:

1. Space, there just isn't all that much. Connecting up to the carpark seems important rather than using the space south of the oval because you're going to need access in and out.

2. Oval size. They have to get an MCG sized oval. To do that you're shrinking down the land available for soccer/rugby to 1 rectangular field. I'm not surprised if this did come in conjunction with Victory no longer training there. They might have to change the orientation of the oval to the same way Punt Road oval runs diagonally or even East/West.

3. Pollution, at some stage athletes are going to ask why they have to exercise right next to the freeway exit and one of Melbourne's busiest roads. I hope they look in to building some fencing in particular areas, upping the trees/vegetation etc.

4. Cost. It's going to be spending a lot of money to get a facility that doesn't add value through other businesses and might only last 20-30 years. What's the angle to get Government funding and to make some money from the new venue?

5. Oval use. I believe at the moment the team isn't training at Gosch's because it's in a poor state. If it remains public land and free to use then there should at least be some kind of protections put in place.

6. AFLW? The ground should be developed with an intent to be able to host 5,000 people for AFLW games.

"If however Victory and Collingwood FC move out we might just hit the jackpot"

That's what you wrote. We will not get both Collingwood's and Victory's facilities. Pretty simple really.

Happy for you you to dream otherwise.

Now we're talking !!!

As close to the perfect location as we could realistically hope to get.

Here we go....

"Melbourne are eyeing land around Gosch's Paddock for their new home after being forced to abandon their highly ambitious plan to build a new headquarters over the Jolimont train lines and carved into Yarra Park.

The club is developing plans to build a new home on the southern side of Gosch’s Paddock near the freeway exit at Punt Rd, possibly strapping around the oval to the western side and connecting with the existing car park.

Another alternative is to build between AAMI Park and Gosch’s Paddock, potentially incorporating the existing car park.

The state government has encouraged Melbourne to explore opportunities on the other side of the railway lines after making it clear they did not support a development in Yarra Park."

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/golly-gosch-demons-eye-site-for-new-home-20190724-p52acv.html

Not entirely correct, but close enough.

I reckon it is top location. Provided that we build quality facilities, this could be the making of the club. It is close to South Yarra, which, like it or not, is the historic heartland of the MFC. South Yarra, Toorak, Prahran and Malvern are the Dees more prominent areas. Add to that the bayside regions. It would be ideal to have this centre adjacent to Richmond Station and in walking distance to the MCG. There are bridges that link that area to South Yarra and all the way around to the MCG.

Given the traffic on Punt Road, it would also provide a great opportunity for advertising and exposure. Big signage is a key. Not a faceless hidden away nest like we currently have. We need to get the oval big enough, and that may mean taking over some of the adjacent land and getting rid of tress. As mentioned in the article, this is feasible, as the area is not zoned and set aside as 'green space'. It is part of the olympic park precinct.

I really want to trust G. Pert and believe he has been working behind the scenes to get something happening. We need something to lift our spirits. I hope there is further news to follow on this, and some sold plans or blueprints.

For those interested, here is the document for the planning of the AAMI Park 'rectangular stadium' and redevelopment of Gosch's Paddock from 2005. It discusses advertising, among other things. It is interesting to see what was foreseeable as the future of the area. It is style, at the date of this plan, classified as public parkland.

Interesting...

"An advantage of moving to the southern side of the train lines and building around Gosch’s Paddock is that the land governed by the Melbourne Olympic Park Trust – which is land broadly designated for sporting use – as opposed to land designated as green space parkland in Yarra Park."

I wonder if this was the real target all along and the impossible dream was put up, knowing it was doomed to failure, but thereby giving us more support from those that matter, for what we really wanted and which was far more acceptable and achievable.

I suspect something is brewing and very much doubt that we would only have plan A (Yarra Park) unless we had some assurances that it's a goer.

It's quite possible we have another proposed site and this is all just part of the long game. The Yarra proposal may well be smoke and mirrors.

We brought Pert on for his expertise in these type of projects so lets see what he brings to the table.

Looks like we might be seeing this now...

Damage control, maybe?  Its been a bad PR week (not of the club's making per se) so they need good news out there......

can you add something

The facility at Jolimont was practically approved, the only issue was opposition to an MCG-sized ground to play on. Movement of trees not a real issue as it is a common occurrence; the public just doesn’t notice. The opposition is more related to the idea of it not being palatable to influential types.

The newly-mooted location is close, but not quite what I’ve been led to believe.

I’ll leave it there for now, but I think it’ll happen. We’re basically out of alternative options, but the right parties are working with us to solve it.

Hope we get a social club with this new place??

I am not sure that is a priority any more.

Admin and training facilities, including whiz bang gym, pool, medical and recovery facilities in the same building or area is the aim.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
