I know highlights are exactly that, highlights, but not many people can make highlights like that.

Highlights.

I’m preparing myself for some frustration with Pickett. I’m sure he has potential to do some amazing things but the knock on him was he lacked consistency.

Contacting the club tomorrow to have him on my 2020 membership. So excited we picked him up, his highlights have it all, exactly something we’ve lacked for many years. Can’t wait to see him play live, so far we’ve only booked for QB, will be revisiting the draw tomorrow.

loved the tears from his grandma and serious look of pride from Goody in the wash up.

we really wanted him and it means a huge amount to him and his family. can't love it enough. the follow up shepherd he laid in his highlights on tv was enough to say yep worth every cent

Spot on.

My heart is already invested in this kid.

Will likely be a personal favourite for me very early into his MFC career.

This kid is just what this club was crying out for. In spades.

Bring on 2020. My heart’s beating again.

A very common criticism of small forwards by the way.

Hope we are organising the support system for him now. What’s Byron doing these days? And we have Matty Whelan and Nev.

Love that clip.

Those two hits were dyn-o-mite!

If I'm reading things correctly, he's an inch shorter than The Wiz & an inch taller than Boomer....is there a problem?

Love it. Can't wait to watch him.

I genuinely miss the excitement that Wona, Davey, Jurrah, the Wiz, Pickett, Whelan, Garlett brought to our footy club with pace, hardness, skill and brilliant footwork.

Loved watching all those guys,    good luck mate !!

As an aside, I loved seeing Brad Green back in an MFC polo.

The guy is a club legend, and (as everyone knows) he has endured seriously tragic and unwanted life experience in recent times - and he’s handled it with true class, integrity and courage.

In this context, it was really pleasing to see him welcoming Kysaiah to the club on the MFC’s behalf.

We had an appalling season this year - but it’s reassuring to see that the professional and respectful standards that we’ve displayed in recent years are still very apparent from the club.

Typo

Our coaches haven't shown any great ability to train front and centre or pressure. We've trained up ball winning and I think we've trained up a pretty fit squad (up until last year). And rightly or wrongly we've trained a team that can get the ball inside 50.

Yeah I'd rather use pick 20, and yes I wonder if the mid sized Bergman or the slightly bigger Weightman were better picks but the speed to the drop of the ball, the taps on, the pressure. There's so much to like.

He's not just flukey and flashy, he does all the defensive stuff.

Fan-effen-tastic!

This way, young man....

In the highlights video he's playing for:

WWT reserves
WWT seniors
SA under 18 v Glenelg
SA under 18
AFL rising stars game - white
AFL academy v Casey

And there's nothing from school games there.

I know most young guys go through a similar thing but for an instinctive player who clearly feeds off and works well with team mates there's potentially a heap of improvement for settling him in the same side - Casey if not the AFL team - and letting him play with team mates who know his game.

His possession totals could quickly elevate by a couple of kicks and handballs and at least dispel any concerns that he doesn't get the ball enough.

Good luck with that. I think Pert has issued instructions to cut costs. You need to pay extra for your choice of player on the card and the choices are limited to around 6 players.

I like that he not only can take a hanger, but that he stayed down and crumbed a beautiful goal too.

and that chase and bump to free up his team mate brought tears to the eyes.

He’ll do me. Nice work Mr Taylor.

First stop after arriving in to the MFC needs to be a barber! What a mop of hair ?

Hmmm a team with an absolute abundance of inside midfielders and utilities should have selected another inside midfielder and a utility who is out for 12 months?

That makes perfect sense.

Totally depends how you see Melbourne list currently and whether it's a genuine flag chance next year. Oliver is the only inside mid of A grade quality (Viney, Harmes and Petracca are not of that quality) and we're light in defence. Pickett may have been there for our 2nd rounder, if not someone still decent to help forward. Amazed how many don't rate Green

Welcome Kozzie!  Very nice highlights package. Wrapt with this he is exactly what we need.

Brave calls from Taylor tonight. Nailed it. Love it.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
