Goodwin must demand a fitter team

Physically and mentally, otherwise his job is toast.

Close enough is nowhere near good enough...

Composure in front of goal telling. Terrible decision against Gawny in the last.  They are really trying hard to reduce his influence.  Preuss is unfortunately not up to it.  He's an adequate centre square ruck for about 30 minutes.  He gives nothing else. Oliver was great for three quarters, Fritsch very good, and despite Campbell Brown's observations, Gawn dominated Hickey.  Harmes was solid, Brayshaw and Lewis played great team roles and May continues to impress.  A few positives.

Nibbler had a decent game. I’m sure he’ll get some acknowledgment from his routine critics.

We were 3 down with pruess Viney and Lockhart. The rest  Showed heart and was a snapshot of our season tried our guts out but no skill or smarts

There's no lack of effort. Just basic skills. Fritsch, Wagner, etc. missed kicks into corridor.

Great to see Lever do a few nice things. May is a proper footballer.

Desperately need some crumbers up forward. Lockhart five touches is just not good enough.

Groundhog’s season continues, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Thought Fritsch was mostly outstanding emerging star in the making. There’s a silver lining inside that cloud ...

                              somewhere.

The most predictable club in the AFL...

>  Don't play with much intensity early or if we do and our chaos game is on we still miss plenty of early shots at goal and concede a significant or largish lead to the opp by quarter or half time.

> Fight back a little, maybe even get nose in front and get some supporters a little more interested / excited.

> Drop away in intensity, composure, run and finish when the heat is on in the tight contest from about half way through the third onwards.

> Add a few clangers straight back to the opp allowing them to get a few relatively easy joe the goose or sling shot goals on the run to ice the game and take the pressure off.  The opp then goes into slow tempo possession mode to ice the game, something we are incapable of for more than a few kicks..

> Goodwin presser where he will likely say "we are slowly but surely getting back to the Melbourne way" and "there are some positive things we can take away from this".

Rinse and repeat the following week*

*Excluding Gold Coast where we might win and get VERY excited both in the post match celebrations, the rooms and presser and those easily pleased on D'land.

As an ANB knocker I thought he was better today, but still wouldn’t have him in my team. Those mistakes still kill our momentum.

Devastated with the loss regardless and l am sure the Umpires will think they did a good job. Confused all round as our players would be.

We just get the bad end of the stick no doubt.Where do we get these morons from.  PLEASE! don't tell me they have a hard job to do.

I am gutted for watching these MORON'S umpire. I have had enough.

Lose the game and not be good enough is ok but not through Moron decisions. Please spare me.

This post is a snapshot of MFC circa 2015-2019

Like last week and many other games this season no matter how competitive and strong we are during the game we toss it away in the last quarter. We rarely look like winners at the death.

Melbourne football club are mentally weak, I knew when scores were level we’d get beaten by 12-24 points, we have got a losing mentality

Dropped another sitter in the clear 30 out. Luckily cleaned up by Petty who tackled his opponent by the arm and got a HTB.

Dropped doesn't even come close to describing what he did, You would have thought he'd never seen a football before the way he went for that. Half way through the 3rd qtr I noticed Barrass starting to pretend Preuss didn't exist and just left him standing alone

Kick our 6-7 easy gimmes and we win easily, despite injuries, umpiring and losing Viney.

So Glouftis was dropped in May this year following a string of poor decisions, including two crucial errors in the St Kilda v WEST COAST clash which resulted in two goals to the EAGLES.

In 2017 Donlon gave a controversial decision when he awarded a free kick to Luke Shuey which then saw him kick the winning goal for the EAGLES after the siren against Port. The following week he wasn't given any finals games despite being an experienced umpire of over 200 games officiated.

These are the umpires which are sent to officiate the Alice game. Thanks a lot AFL. No quality for a team like the lowly Melbourne.

North sack coach & start winning

Carlton sack coach start winning

Saints sack coach on the verge of beating Bulldogs

Have I missed something.....So looking like 3 clubs who have sacked coaches will finish higher than the MFC!

What a Joke we are!

Exactly, mentally soft

We're so far gone this year that I'm pretty much at the point that I'll take any positives right now and hope they continue next year, along with the many other things we need to do.

Clarry was great, and despite a couple of errors Fritter was good, too. May was awesome, and Lever looks like he's finding his feet out there.

We had more scoring shots (story of the year), the game really was there for us to take, like many others this year. Maybe we'll practice our kicking in the off season.

It wasn't really the reason we lost, but the umpiring was amateur.

Not a great game by the big fella but he cost us a player who can’t make the North side either.

Our goal kicking is still awful but at least we seem to have cleaned up some of our turnovers and upped the pressure on the opposition.

Is it just me or is Lever’s field kicking a shadow of what it was?

Good effort. Clarrie and Fritsch magnificent. Brayshaw showed signs and May was good. Breathtaking incompetence in front of goal. Time to declare the Preuss experiment a fail. Umpires were putrid.

May for captain 2020

Pruess a liability, can’t even handball

Lockhart non existent

Jetta is not fit & needs to be put on ice for next season

Other than that a good effort

The player who we traded away Josh Kelly for?

An absolute plodding game by Lockhart today.

Could not believe how slow he was. Not just straight mine speed, but a bloke that size should be nimble on his feet.

Lockhart played like a 170cm Garry Lyon post back injury. Beached whale.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
