Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

North and Saints have rubbish lists. North was playing finals a few years ago, had a mini crash and is now in finals contention. The Saints have been average for a while but they just smashed a team we never looked like winning against last week.

Carlton have an absolutely putrid list. They currently sit above us, 75% through the season.

Goodwin got a talented list on a role at the time. He and his team list management this year has been utterly awful, bordering on career ending.

I found myself agreeing witu "spud" Frawley, that we've never seen such a significant drop.

This goes far beyond player deficiencies and well into coaching failures. Open your eyes. We are second last ffs. The only team between us and 18th is Gold Coast for [censored] sake.

No they dont

There are a number of issues with Preuss but the biggest impact he has is reducing Gawn's minutes on ball.  Gawn is arguably the best player in the competition, and certainly the best player in our team.  We need to maximise his minutes where he influences the game the most.  He's an average deep forward at best but a sublime ruck. No more Preuss unless Max doesn't play.

Do you blame Goodwin for today's loss?

Round 1 2020 can’t come quickly enough. A full preseason with a new head of fitness, a bottom 6 draw, an injury free list with a top 5 pick...

OK, Round 1 game on the line with 10 minutes to go. How confident would you be and who would be the players to step up.

Our performances are a symptom of his coaching. Even today he said he is sick of losing like this. He effectively admitted it. If today was treated in isolation I'd give him a pass. But we are 65 games into his coaching career and we are SECOND. LAST. ON THE. LADDER. With 5 rounds to go. In isolation, no, we didn't lose because of Goodwin. But he is "HEAD" coach. We are second last on the ladder ffs!

Yes, they do. They're playing confident football but they have holes across the ground. That we're below them, I can't fathom how anyone could possibly justify or defend it.

I could handle.   I/we had losing but not, I am sick of moving. I think their is a chance this will all get too much for Goody and he will resign sometime in the future due to stress.

Making a prelim doesn’t excuse anything. Grant Thomas got sacked after making the finals. Ratten took the Blues to the finals the previous 3 years and got sacked (which in hindsight was bad).

Goodwin’s Record will be below 50% after this season ends. If we fail to make finals next year I can’t see him surviving.

Um I'll go further and say if after 8 rounds we are similarly placed to this year, he will be GONE!

Great pity coz he is a good bloke!! But in cutthroat AFL it is what it is!

No.

They have the talent to be quiet potent in years to come if developed properly.

Charlie Curnow, McKay, Weitering, Petrevski Seton, O' Brien, Walsh, Cripps, Zac Fisher, Settlefield, Marchbank are all good young players who will be gun players once they get to the 80-100 game mark.

Their spine is set for the next 10 years. McKay and Curnow are forward who you build around and Cripps and Walsh in the midfield will be superstars. If they can grab another inside mid with pick 11 then its an already impressive on ball brigade with Cripps, Walsh, Settlefield, Lochie O'Brien.. Need to find a ruckman as Kruezer is slowing down.

Marchbank, Jones and Weitering are solid defenders who will hold their backline for the next 5 years.

Putrid list? Nah..

of course not...its the Vibe...It's  Mabo !!

this isnt directed at anyone in particular

As it happens  I thought a handful showed a bit more verve. Only an idiot would have played that magnificently  coiffured  Fritcsh anywhere other than the forward arc....yet supposedly being returned there is a master stroke. By our coaching standards it is..How sad.

I dont know how Max keeps his composure..Id be beyond frustrated being among the few to know how to play the game properly.

I see ANB put in a few decent minutes....and then went back to normal. That of itself is fascinating...How do you know what to do one minute...then brain fade the rest ?? And does he actually know how to spoil in a marking contest...does he ??

Brayden Brayden Brayden.....ahhhhhhhhh

Hunt was a trier...but it seems like so many lack the resolve to back themselves at ever so crucial moments. Is it a team thing...is it just poor coaching...I have my suspicions.

May...best game . Lever not out of sorts entirely...but still costly occasionally. That will get better Im sure ( I hope )

I didn notice there wasn't the obscene compulsion to just bomb away but its still the most used option.  Eagles kept their kicks a lot lower . Theres a very good reason for that.

We dont give each other much space. Eagles had a paddock at times...we had a couch for two. We do some ridiculous things at times and I wonder why.

I dont think anyone could make any passing commentary on the game without involving the maggots. Remarkable...truly.  such a disparity and imbalance between what THEY could do with seeming impunity and should we dare look at the ball the wrong way...kapow !!  It was blatant...irrefutable....and not the only occasion.

May might lambast Gus but truly I thought he was ok in the main.. He was #1 victim imho of some very 'different' umpiring.

We have a lot of bog average players dont we....good match for the box

Second and third quarters were as good as we’ve played all year against a top quality opposition. So that’s a positives. Fritsch was great up forward, finally playing where he belongs and Lewis was also very good negative that fat [censored] McGovern.

Once again our kicking and decision making cost us the game. Even down to Fritsch in the dying minutes kicking the ball into the center of the ground and missing the target. Yes it’s one play, but it’s the constant poor decisions and missing targets and easy shots on goal that just kill you as a supporter. And robs the team of all momentum.

Our backline is fully stocked but they aren’t meshing. They are lost, they spoil each other and are constantly out of position. I’m going to give it time as they need to play together for a while to get in a groove, but my god Jetta and Lever are so rusty. Lever looks really unsure of his knee, Jetta looks exhausted and Frost is I don’t even know. He is a brain fade short of an aneurism.

May has been magnificent. Clearly battling fitness still, but he is a presence and did a great job on Kennedy who destroys us on the regular. Despite his poor showing in pre season he has been a great get for us.

Overall this game is a perfect summation of this season. A few highs, a lot of lows and plenty of frustration.

Lewis’ game was hard to assess. He did kick 2 goals and made McGovern accountable but missing those 2 set shots was very costly. After hooking  the first he didn’t adjust for the second. Very poor from a leader and experienced player. BT was going off his head about the clueless goal kicking. It has to be a coaching issue. Hearing Goodwin at his presser makes me think he doesn’t get it.

An Umpire who gives a free kick and 50 meters at the same time to the WCE and in front of goal which he kicks because Lever said something is giving  a gimme goal. The Umpire in question uses the number 1. His name is Chris Donlon There are two O's in DONLON and two O's in MORON.

The replay showed Lever probably letting go an expletive but to the ground in frustration, it wasn’t directed at the umpire, certainly not in his face but he gives a 50 penalty saying Lever knows what words he said. What now players have watch their words, nothing vulgar or it’s a 50? The umpiring started to even up in the second and third Quarters but again deteriorated in the last, after the 9 to 0 fiasco of the first Q. All their decisions were arbitrary all day for both sides but we got the rough end of the 50/50’s that is for sure.

I was perturbed tttt by his kicking... He's been a much better hitter of leather than he seems of late. That everyone except our Brains trust knew about where and how to kick here ...at our HOME ground ....is reprehensible.

Ive new thought Goodwin gets it...not at the level he's allowed to exert influence.  He's a people person...a proud footballer no doubt ....but he's more a tinkerer than a holistic planner... He's under equiped.

Happy to say it was a pleasingly unremarkable 8 kick, 8 handball, 2 tackle-game from ANB - probably our 15th best on the day :)

Like fish in a barrel ?

Anyone who didn’t watch the game can read the stat sheet. Anyone who watched the game free of bias would admit he had a good game. Don’t strain yourself too much though.

Getting overly emotional for being second last is useless. Ladder position matters for finals teams, otherwise you've won x amount of games.

We're 5-12 having a horrible season in a very even competition and only a 3 wins off 9th. After a dreadful 1-5 start we've gone 4-7 and been a real shot to win plenty of those games.

The summer from hell played out in the first month of the year, and then we spent most of the first half of the season without important defenders. No May, no Lever, no Jetta and at times even Hibberd and Hore missing. Even Salem missed a game and Frost knocked himself out in one. We were bad kicking away from beating the Crows with May/Lever/Jetta/Hore/Salem.

Then we spent the last few weeks without Melksham, Tom McDonald and a back up key forward in Smith or Weideman and a lot of the choices to play in the forward line - Hannan, Spargo, Joel Smith, Garlett have had significant interruptions as well.

Our best outside midfielder in Fritsch has had to play forward and often back. There's very little a coach can do with constant shifting of players.

In large patches of games we've made the Eagles (twice) and Crows look ordinary. We had a real opportunity to push the Pies and gave them a nice touch up in the midfield, just needed some composure down back and to take some chances up forward.

It's easy to kick the coach and he's not blameless for some of the fundamental skill errors and poor set ups we've seen but really I think so much of what's gone wrong is out of his control and possible to turn around quickly.

They...imho certainly do not have more talent than we do. We are squandering that which we have.  We have some very decent players, who in the main seem great misdirected in terms of what the ought to be doing on a paddock.  What we lack is depth.

Carlton ought to be choking on our dust....and yet....

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo
