    It's very form dependent, but as it stands right now I would, and I would also put him in ahead of Hannan in that regard.

    I think JKH ranks 3rd out of those 3 when all are in form, but Hannan has struggled since coming back in and ANB has struggled at senior level all year.

    They're all very close though, either (or both) of Hannan and ANB could have good games tomorrow and be back in front. How both of them perform for the rest of year could determine JKH's contract status rather than his own performances in my opinion.

    Was thinking about playing in the coming weeks rather than contracts. 

    Since you asked:  Contract renewal order for me would be JKH, ANB, Stretch.  For mine, they are all depth players and not regular 22's. 

    But I would play JKH ahead of the 2 in the coming weeks.  But Dunkley might get selected ahead of all three.  He is more likely a future 22 and it will be a good test to have a few games this year.

    Thanks KC, DJ and all posters, our depth is starting to re-build and that will continue to put pressure on all players to perform or else. Really good result for the Boy's and our new coach as well.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'm a big JKH fan

    So dissappointed his injury happened as he would've gotten a good senior stint to prove himself

    I know he's depth, probably ahead of Stretch with skills, but behind ANB for size and tank (but better skills)

    I hope he gets another year

    Would certainly rate JKH ahead of Stretch and a slightly different rôle to ANB ... would like to think of the three ? Jim mentioned JKH would be well ahead. 

    Hope he finally gets a decent run with injury to be able to prove his worth.  

    Probably not a best 18 but probably a best 25.

    Pruess is pretty good with his feet.  Love those goals he has kicked for the MFC seniors where he has grabbed it out of the ruck, hacked it on his boot and slammed it through for 6 points or the ones where he has unloaded it from just on/outside 50 and drilled it home.  When you can kick like that, why handball !!

    I thought he looked like he was starting to find his feet at senior AFL level last year when he got that run of games.  Deserves another decient chance to show what he can to at the top level in the back half of this year. 

    Certainly if he could become another solid depth player for us at AFL level, we have seen this year how valuable that could be for us in years to come.  There were a number of games earlier this year when retrospectively he would have been a much better option than Spargo and probably one or two others like Stretch (not holding anything against these two guys, they just don't  seamed to have produced the goods for us this year).

    Those stats are looking more promising 'Return'....

    15 touches a couple of goals & 4 tackles is a good return for a small forward. Lets hope he can build on this.

    I think JKH is a much better option than Hannan, ANB, Garlett and Spargo. Those players get numerous chances to play rubbish games for consecutive weeks before the penny finally drops with our selectors and they drop them. JKH can have a run of games where he contributes and then has one game where he’s quiet, next week he’s dropped. He’s got good evasive skills in close, good speed, finds space, and generally has good disposal. Given a fair go to build his confidence, I think he’d add an important element to what we miss so badly, providing outside options and speed, whilst at the same time able to do well on the inside. Being able to handle wet conditions is a good indicator as well. If the club let him go I think he’ll establish himself somewhere else.

    GAMBIT by KC from Casey 

    The opening gambit of Saturday afternoon’s game told us everything about who would be its main players and who would come out on top. The Casey Demons were eager to turn the tables on the Box Hill Hawks who beat them in last year’s grand final and then gave them a first up mauling at City Oval, Box Hill. Kicking with the aid of a strong breeze in the opening term, Braydon Preuss’ first hit out went straight to the diminutive Jay Kennedy Harris who pounced with a 70 metre shot at goal that sailed through the big sticks with just 13 seconds on the clock. That pair shared the best on ground honours with Preuss amassing 64 hit outs and 17 disposals while his roving partner-in-crime, better known as “JKH”, finished with 24 touches and three goals. 

    Box Hill returned the favour a minute later but Casey took total control from then on. At one stage in the middle of the opening term, the Demons had been inside the 50 metre arc a dozen times to one but errant kicking kept their lead to manageable proportions. They were up by 26 points at the first break but that was pared back to 15 at the main break. The Demons whisked away in the third and then held on to a complete a comprehensive 34 point victory.

    The win makes it three on the trot for Casey and the second for new coach Sam Radford and it lifts the team to within sniffing distance of a finals berth. That it was achieved against one of its main rivals for a place in the top eight was particularly gratifying in light of the loss of some important players through injury and last week’s playmaker Jordan Lewis who was called up to travel to Brisbane with the AFL team.

    Preuss’ ruck dominance made a complete contrast to the team’s last few outings against the Box Hill Hawks and he had excellent assistance from fellow tall, Liam Wale-Buxton. Together they fed a midfield headed by the clean ball handling of JKH who reveled in the conditions. The two Coreys - Maynard and Wagner - were hard at it with their ball winning and tackling that never let their opponents get off the hook, even when they had the wind advantage. And what they didn’t attend to was looked after by Jimmy Munro who continues his fine season. 

    On a good day for defenders, Oscar McDonald and Josh Wagner were impressive with their rebounding work, the latter was particularly outstanding. 

    Young Demon lister Toby Bedford played his best game to date. He was especially dangerous with his ability to get loose and out on his own up forward but he also maintained pressure when the opposition had the ball. He and Mykelti Lefau were a thorn in the Hawks’ side all day, each ending with two goals. James Jordon also impressed with some solid work and his good disposal in the conditions.

    Mitch Gent, on return from injury, and Jack Hutchins were strong contributors among the Casey-listed contingent as was skipper Mitch White although his kicking for goal was a little off the mark. The club also welcomed new recruit Ariek Lual from Noble Park who was a stand out for a newcomer at this level.

    Another big game looms next week against fellow finals contenders in the Northern Blues at Casey Fields next Saturday as the team goes for four in a row.

      What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
