Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

We might find out on Monday how much our coaches have learnt from the way Cats, Pies and WCE play.  If we stick to our manic 'chaos' game we will be in strife.

Pies beat us in rnd 23 2017 and QB last year using that style.  I will be keenly interested in the respective styles employed on Monday.

Would like to think you are right but I think that Goddwin will believe that with his three "ins" in the backline that his chaos game will get them through. It may well but as we all know it's not a sustainable gameplan over a season.

I see. So we should attack the ball with even more ferocity!

yep at least four men attacking the ball carrier and of course when we have the ball our players run away, refuse to shepherd and then the ball carrier fluffs the handball or handballs to the player one metre away who gets closed down.

PS.. it did work against GWS and the Hawks last year I must admit.

We saw it work against the Hawks earlier this year. They looked like surgically picking us apart at first. Looked like a long day at the office. But our attack on the ball gradually put them off and their skills dropped. With the game reduced to a mad scramble, we were better at scrambling, and more mad.

The Giants (a couple of weeks ago), being a better side than the Hawks, were able to maintain their skill and had the game won by half time.

But it is tiring. Malthouse when at Collingwood had them playing that way, and while effective in long stretches, it also had them down for long stretches. The players were semi-permanently exhausted. (It was only when Eddie boned him to make way for Nathan that Malthouse pulled his socks up, got a real ruckman, got Jason Ball, improved his method, and finally got them their flag.)

But let's say we're going to continue with the mad scramble. (Because we are.)

It doesn't explain why we commit footballing sins like ...

- Get the ball, handpass to a player 3m away in more or less the same position, same space around him, same time to dispose. it achieves nothing but buys time for the opposition.

- Kick a short kick to a player who ends up taking his kick from the same spot as the bloke who just kicked it to him.

- Get the ball with a player free downfield ... stop, look around for other options ... nothing on ... what about the bloke who was free? Manned up now. Oh [censored], I'm being manned up now! Oh well ... kick it to him anyway.

- Get the ball, a teammate runs past screaming for it. Hmm ... I'm free but he looks like he's about to run into a wall of oppo ... give it to him anyway.

- Why our kicks, long or short, always seem to be high ones and hang in the air for ever, bringing joy and hope to defenders everywhere. We seem to have honed our ability at kicking to someone who should have plenty of time but ends up under the hammer or even outmarked due to these widow-makers. Our first two decent forays inside 50 against GWS happened to be from low hard kicks to someone on the lead. and that was about the last we saw of that for the day. (Last quarter doesn't count.)

I noticed last night both Cats and Tiges were kicking low and hard.

We work and battle so hard for every goal. It kills as a spectator to see every opposition team waltz the ball down their end for easy goals ... the kind we rarely seem to get any more. It must kill the players too. The Giants beat us on only 3 cylinders. Against the Crows we worked our guts out, right out of the game. Our crooked kicking and their straight kicking told the story. It would be nice for us to pull in wins on an off day rather than need everything working at 100%.

With our game "plan", to win a flag, we would need a dream run like the Dogs'. It's not impossible ... it happened just 3 years ago ... but would much prefer to see a more structured approach. Imagine skill by hand and foot, playing to a system, combined with a ferocious attack on the ball. (One out of three ain't bad.)

Unfortunately with Goodwin in charge, we'll have to imagine it.

Geelong are lucky enough to have senior players who contribute significantly week in week out. They have four or five players who are plus 28 who feature in their top 15 each week.

Remind me in that sense of North with Harvey and the Saints withe Riewoldt, Montagna and Milne.

They have also lucked into youth in the form of Kelly etc.

Hell..... I'm jealous

Cripps is having an absolute blinder. Makes everyone else look second rate.

Love to see a Dees player take a game by the scruff of the neck like he does.

We are so well drilled and skilled at this DJ as well as a very slack zone in our forward half from the opp kick ins allowing them to work their way to about mid field then launch into their 50 with virtually zero pressure time after time.  Pressure in forward half (outside of Jeffy at times) non existent.

I love the fact that i can boast to my mates that they have nothing on us in certain facets!

May our reign as the worst coached side in the AFL (post Bolton's sacking where we were unfortunately only equal worst) plus 'king of turnovers' continue!!

Cripps went full beast mode. If Dangerfield or Martin had a game like that the media wouldn’t shut up about him all week. Just massive. Silvagni on the other hand, wow wee there’s only one reason why he gets a game.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
