If he gets the ruck AA, just watch all the Collingwood ferals lose it. They all think Brodie Grundy is head and shoulders above the rest and they're still bitter about Gawn getting the first ruck choice in the AA team last year.

two games against the filth could be the selection panel's deciding vote!

both should make it; both are super ruckmen

Grundy has probably been the better ruckman this year so far, but I'll back Gawn to continue his great recent form

us winning only 3 games so far makes it almost impossible for him to in with a shout

Poor Max is dominating hit-outs,

Only in recent weeks, has he been consistently hitting to strong advantage,  'DD'.

Another interesting thing I stumbled across is that while so many of Gawn and Grundy's figures are amazingly close, Gawn thrashes the Magpie for the newfangled stat-of-the-day 'metres gaines'  - 250 to 150.

So did Robbie Flower,  in the 1st half of his career... but that didn't help us win more games than lose.

I'm with you DV8... the years of just going along to see a player such as Robbie while special also marked the slow death of this club.

Time to Maximise the Gawn to the advantage of the team

Yep not Robbie's fault at all...  but a reflection of just how poor we had become as a club.   Starting from Tilbrook to Diterich to the Elliot's,  back to Diterich.   Forever turning in smaller circles,  toward the middle.

Although I put a few dollars on him to win, I agree with @Dr. Gonzo that he won’t. His season last year was better than this one and we had more wins.

Agree both are clearly head and shoulders above the rest. Purely on ruckwork, i'd rate Gawn as the better of the 2, but Grundy is virtually another midfielder around the ground such is his versatility and workrate.

Unfortunately ruckmen don't win Brownlows. (Unless they are Big Jim). I would love to see Max win one, but I can't see it ever happening, no matter how good a year he has.

Gawn>Grundy and that is no slight towards Grundy who is a phenomenal player. It's just that Gawn is just smashing opposition ruckman into Oblivion each and every week.

Yep confirming Max 101/1 @ Ladbrokes, im on as well.

Now for 13 wins in a row....

Those Brownlow odds are coming in again.  What an amazing effort by the big fella against his nearest competition.  If we were having a better season he'd be lauded as the best player in Australia.

Destroyed Grundy today. Have him an absolute bath and we’ll and truly answered the question of who is the best ruckman in the league.

As it was last year, Gawn is the best. Keep it up big fella!

It's time to anoint him as our captain.  He's the only one who tries week in week out and leads from the front.

Take the title of Jones and Viney. They are finished.

Gawn is daylight in front in regards to leadership.

35 touches as a ruck defies any sense of logic, not to mention completely obliterating his ruck rival in Grundy.

Leading the B&F by a deadset mile. Should go close to a third AA selection as well.

I'm concerned that his knees may buckle under the weight of captiancy.

Sick of people Calling for this he’s prob our best player yes And he had a great game yes. But he also continues to do [censored] handballs, he can’t kick for peanuts and when he was 60 m out he puts it to the goal line! Dumb football like the rest of the team

Goodwin will probably get rid of him. His attitude of trying his hardest every week and seemingly having an idea of how to play football doesn’t fit in with his coaching philosophy. He has shown he prefers anything but what Max gives.

A Collingwood fan on the train even said that Gawn destroyed Grundy. He is so far above any other ruckman in the competition. He now wins clearances too. An absolutely phenomenal player!

yeah.. I used to get excited too... ruck dominance ain't what it used to be unless the player dominates around the ground.

Mids have grown up playing to the tap whether it be their's or the other teams

He had what 7-8 clearances? He is dominating around the ground.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
