A bit selfish to leave the club in caretaker mode for half the year and leave players in limbo, particularly recent arrivals and those coming out of contract this year.

Can't help but feel he has lined up or is lining up the next gig.  Could be the Saints as according to this article Scott to leave Roos he has a strong relationship with Lethlean. 

Its bad enough when players break contracts but even worse when a coach does it 18 months ahead of it expiring because 'he can't commit long term'.  Should have thought of that when he renewed, which if I recall correctly he did to give some hope of getting Kelly from GWS and/or Dusty from Richmond.

I find it all a bit unsavoury. 

Nonethless, they would do well if they can get Ratten as coach.

With North and probably Carlton and Saints looking for a new coach they may be looking in our direction, specifically Rawlings or Jennings.  While I'm very keen to see changes amongst our [censored] Coaches, they aren't two guys I would like us to lose.

North is also likely to be looking for a new Football manager so I guess they will have Mahoney on their list of possible candidates.

This is the problems with North going early on their plans, it can easily be disruptive to other clubs , in particular Saints and Carlton. 

Don't like what Scott and North has done from any perspective.

I thought the opposite. They’re obviously cactus this year and in the early stages of a rebuild. This means the club can start looking for its new coach and planning around that well in advance, Scott can plan his own future, and both parties get to avoid all the wild speculation and pressure that comes with bottom 4 territory. If it causes a bit of turbulence in a season that is already dead in the water anyway, so what?

With due respect you are not Brad Scott and his facial expressions alone would pay his wage three fold

Would gladly take him in a supportive role. He’s a decent coach who go the best out of a bog ordinary list of players. Seems like a decent motivator or players, so something that would play to that strength.

Roos are in real trouble now!

Not sure what changed from two months ago until now. Did they think they’d make finals?

Scott seems like decent coach but overrated club management imo. 9 years to draft and trade with only a handful of players to show for it. 

Although two prelims they never finished top 4. 

I get the point if not bottoming out but what is the point if you never really think you can win a flag??

Fully agree Nasher, no use in hanging around in a broken relationship just for the sake of the kids.

Nought is another special case. He is a better coach than his results on paper

interesting to see where his next pay packet comes from. 

 

He took a slowly sinking ship and made it adequate for a lot longer than anyone expected. It'll never quite be possible to judge how he performed as a coach. To many mixed factors; aged champions on the list, depth issues, successfulish use of free agency (Waite, Higgins, Dal Santo), a whole bunch of 'just ok' draft selections and so on.

North and Scott have done the right thing by eachother, to allow both to have long conversations with people about what they do next. In general principle I think Scott could play a valuable at the Demons, but it would have to be after a whole lot of those conversations, because there's no doubt he's a 'big' personality. Could be an interesting partnering with McCartney, like some kind of misfit buddy movie from the 80s.

Where would North be now if instead of Scott they had taken a coach who failed? What if it was Scott at Carlton and Malthouse at North, would we still be debating whether North deserved to exist?

Scott has done a wonderful job and will get a senior role either as coach or football manager.

The bigger question for North is whether it takes that last chance and relocates to Tasmania.

Eight home games in Tasmania (the Hobart v Launceston issue is a problem) and five at the Docklands. Means the Melbourne followers would get around 10-12 chances to see them.

AFL pump money into them along with a mega training facility courtesy of the Federal and Tasmanian State governments. This would be ready in say three years at which time the club would move all its admin etc to Tasmania.

The deal is there to be had and the only people who would complain is Hawthorn and well... who cares about them !!

Unless there has been a dramatic change amongst the board members DJ I don't believe there is any chance the Roos will change their minds about staying in Melbourne.

IMO replacing the coach is all about him having been there for nearly ten years and they are not going anywhere fast. After nearly a decade it is time for a new coach. Simple in my view.

We don't know how reasonable actually, because how doers a coach do his best within a club like the Roos...  underfunded,  in comparison to to ther clubs.

And they have tried to buy players without success. 

 

I suspect Scott told the Roos he would not continue next year at the club,  because they have continued to fail in the recruiting stakes.

you're right OD re the move but that is not to say the position of North is not chronic.

I suspect that their followers are moving towards their latter years with little regeneration amongst the younger demographic. Mind you St Kilda and to an extent ourselves are in a similar trough.

A move to Tasmania if done properly would retain 2/3 of their Victorian supporters and then add another 20k at least Tasmanian full members.

The TV money is about to max out so the pressure will be on the clubs themselves to increase their revenue streams. The big 6 or 8 will find ways to spend their money which will leave the others in their wake.

Unless they have deep pockets and splash the cash at him (which I don't think anyone thinks they do), I wouldn't have thought that moving to North to become their football manager would be very attractive to Josh, compared to what he is working with at the MFC.  After spending so much time rebuilding a club I would have thought he would be keen to stick around for some success, rather than jump back in with another basket case. 

Unless he is offered big cash the CEOs position or a lesser role with a pathway to becoming the next CEO somewhere  (cross-code perhaps even), I would think Josh's best move would be to stay with the MFC.  Whatever the case may be, I hope we keep him for a while, because he seems like a pretty bloody good operator.

Nah I want a fresh Tasmanian team, they would be most peoples affectionate 2nd team we all want to see succeed and rooting for the Roos is just too unpalatable.

My masterplan for the comp includes 20 teams, 19 round season, 10 team finals series and so North moving to Tassie disrupts that. Fresh Tassie team and another team somewhere else please.

I wouldn't be too fussed losing any of the trio.

Rawlings has been around long enough now, been really good for the club but may need a change.

Jennings, for all his renown as a game strategist it hasn't been showing in out game plan. Maybe more to do with our serious injury list and not his fault but I think he's looking to further his career and it makes sense for him to move on in the near future.

Mahoney won't go to the Roos, his next move will either be away from football management to more of a rounded management position with another club or the AFL. We need some more experience in this role with an inexperienced head coach.

With the coaching merry go round in full swing, Richo is the one I would be wanting. Has a great reputation as an assistant coach and strategist. Will be a good get for someone.

I hope we are in contact with his management to let him know we are interested.

twenty teams... nice idea and a non compromised draw of 19 rounds.

Won't happen.

The TV money will soon max out in real terms which leaves eight teams unable to compete without AFL money. Cannot see how they would add another two to the "little 8".

A third (/turd) WA team to weaken the Eagles dominance would be a good thing for the comp.  The Sand Groapers would love the idea, until they realize the implications and then it would be too late and they would have fractured the Eagles support base, recruiting edge and finacial clout.

Everything else about your proposal makes too much sense for the AFL to ever adopt though, although I'd personally still keep a top 8 with 20 teams.  Making finals should still be an elite accomplishment.
