POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs West Coast

Ugh! I'd rather lose by 50 points. We dominated that game and should have won. We were the better team. We had 15 inside more 50's. That final term we kicked 1 goal and missed easy ones. They kicked 6.

Our kicking is woeful. Seriously Petracca is just annoying me at the moment. Drops easy marks and misses goals he should get. He has been in the afl world long enough that he should be doing a  lot more.

Tommy started well but his goal kicking was woeful to. Last year he would have nailed those goals.

The slipping over especially at crucial times just shouldn't happen.

I have no idea what the hell is wrong with Brayshaw but gee he isn't firing as well this year.

I hope the players are angry and don't come out and say they were happy with that. Yes it was better than the prelim but they should have won.

We would have been 1 game out of the 8. Now nth or sydney will jump over us and we will be back near the bottom.

Im just really disappointed.

Fritsch should never handball. Ever. His wrists are made of damp sponge. His handballs get smothered or intercepted every time. Also Goodwin has ruined all the potential Fritsch had by playing him down back. His best footy was forward and wing. Played about 2 good games down back. Yet he still persists.

WTF was Smith doing? Just kick the [censored] goal. You’re not there to umpire mate. The actual umpire was 15 metres away, you would’ve heard the whistle. Just absolute stupidity that really sunk the dagger in.

Salem’s worst game ever. That handball to the ground in the middle when we had a swarm everywhere really hurt.

How no one could lay a tackle on that fat [censored] Rioli is beyond me, he stood still and they still flew past him with one arm.

What a a waste of a season. We’re the new Bulldogs/Leicester, but without the gold to make the fall hurt less.

Honestly need clarity.... The WCE player who got knocked out play stopped immediately , I thought this could only happen once the stretcher is called?

When Salem got tunneled in the 4th (another missed free) and hit his head and was on the ground the umps let the play continue... When are they meant to stop the play?

Yeah I wondered the same thing, but I was actually most confused by the fact we didn’t get the ball after the kick in didn’t touch anyone else. Or has that rule changed as well?

The umps were better than I’ve seen at times in Perth, still one sided with the 50/50 calls but they did let a few go with the eagles players trying to force high contact. The big one that cost us was the throw that wasn’t paid, very difficult for them to see but costly.

At 5pm today, I would have taken a 16pt loss and the effort we showed. Now I just feel empty, because we gave that away.

And don’t worry, Michael Christian will give Jetta a Nobel Peace Prize and a Happy Meal for that Smith tackle. No suspension there, my friends...

Stop blaming the umps people  - we [censored] the bed. Not hitting targets forward or kicking set shots. Simples - that’s the difference

Umpiring horrible

Wagner is just horrible

Stretch is not actually quick and kicks 30m clangers

Clayton Oliver will never get to his true potential whilst he is handball happy, better tonight but cost us 1 in the last quarter

Nathan Jones and Jack Viney have no leadership

Jeff Garlett needs to go when its his turn

I look at Patrick Cripps and the way he leads his team. Jack could learn a thing or 2. Jones I don't bag so much because he led us through some dark and trying times. Viney needs to step up and go to the next level.

Squandered. How many opportunities do these guys want? We needed to be 5 goals up at 3/4 time and could have done it if we didn't flub our chances so much.

As for the umpiring ... my god. Have they ever read the rule book? Playing on from out of bounds, head high tackle while ball still in bounds, rampant throwing, incorrect disposal umpteen times, short kicks, running too far ... what do the umps think is in the rulebook? Oh that's right, don't need one. It's the vibe.

The Jetta thing was bloody annoying. The umpire should have just called a ball up.

I somehow think WCE will argue that it wasn’t a double motion which may be why the umpire didn’t call it.

Even still, I think the MRO will offer him 2 weeks.

The umpire was calling play on, but didnt move his arms. Maybe that confused Smith?

THIS is the problem. When the umpire blows the whistle the players often don't know what the decision is going to be. They are so inconsistent with their decisions, it could go either way, and for what? Is it a free kick or play on? Also with the feral crowd in full voice booing everything I'm sure the players can't hear what is being said down there. The umpires are too slow sometimes to let the players know the reason for the whistle being blown.

Billy stretch should never feature in an AFL game again. He coughs the ball up with every disposal, lacks pace and takes too long to make a decision when he gets the ball. He was feeding McGovern and hurn all night

In a prelim final...i saw in person our team get thrashed and humiliated.  Tonight on the couch I saw a very young team who pretty much had travelled from the Gold Coast with a stop over in Melb to pick up a few players head onto Perth and play 6 days later.  With most predictions of thrashing’s and mental scarring ...we got a team that played three and a half quarters, but inexperience and lack of class just showed in the end.  We were by far the better team and I was pretty happy with Petty and Baker ...the continued form of Lockhart and Hore, def Max’s best game and also thought Brayshaw, Oliver, Hunt, Harmes and T McDonald continued to also improve.  Frost and O McDonald were def not disgraced and others that are probably not best 22 but because of injury are in the team....were probably the difference between winning and losing.  If we hadn’t had such a bad start to the season we would have probably been quite happy with the result.   There were some appalling umpiring decisions and some appalling shots on goals but whilst i am extremely disappointed I am also extremely excited.

Our forwards don’t move enough and we simply don’t win the ball once it inevitably hits the ground.

I’d love to know the stats but at a guess I would say we only regain position no more than 20% of the time the ball hits the ground in our forward line.

Time to review our entire forward line for 2020. At this point Hunt would be the only lock.  Pruess for Petty was a poor non selection.  T-Mac could have played Petty's role and was playing down back for a.short time anyway at one point.

Fritsch isn't a backman's bootlace I'm not sure why we are persisting here.  Time to go forward?  Or dropped.

Lockhart might need a spell?

The FD must start playing Jones more at HF and the bench and IF we keep persisting with Tracc he slowly takes over from Jones through the mid as an inside/outside.  FCS he can't kick a goal, why are we persisting with this losing set up!!!?????  When will Goody wake up to the Jones/Tracc switch??????

A frustrating loss has brought out so much sourness!

I and suspect most Melbourne fans assumed we'd get rolled over tonight, but to my surprise we played our best game of the season.

There are a lot of positives to take out of this game.

The likes of Lockhart, Hore, Wagner, Smith, Baker and Petty were all impressive tonight.

Hore intercept marking is just elite. Lockhart is so strong in the air and his ball use is impressive.

Petty and Baker just need games under their belt now. More experience the better they'll get.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
