I think if we are to target anyone, this is the guy. I have real concerns about our exits out of D50 and I think we are a better side when we transition quickly into the forward line, like we did when we were at our best in 2018. Our forward set up is just no good with congestion. This guy would compliment our back half or wing compliments nicely. Skilful and quick.

On at least two occasions (May immediately post game and Lever on the Dees Podcast), and I cant remember the third player) post the game against St Kilda, mentioned that they couldnt recall who they were playing next, being Sydney. I thought that strange that AFL players, even in this environment with short turn arounds would admit that, as it shows a lack of preparedness and also signals to the opposition that we dont rate them to remember them. Well, what I saw tonight was that we werent prepared and clearly Sydney did. They out played us and Goody again was outcoached. Sydney set themselves for this game and it showed. We have far too many passengers and again like 2018, its not the top line players that lose games for us, its our bottom 6 players who blow our systems and structures out. We couldnt get any synergy as we were hurried out of stoppages. We reverted to the hot potato handball nonsense and got no separation, partly because we were out pressured and partly because we just lost our cool. And that meant our inside 50 entries were awful again, and our exiting out of D50 was deplorable.

Can’t see Brett Lovett in the top 10 and would struggle to have him in the top 20. A pure stats pick for mine. Glenn Lovett would be top 10 if he had played more. Neitz definitely 1 on talent and durability, but in saying that Lyon and Stynes right behind him.

I also like Lever as a Captain. He seems understated and thoughtful, and I think we are far from seeing his best that he demonstrated at Adelaide. I have always respected Trent Cotchin as a player, as he is the person who I would imagine at Richmond does the right things when nobody’s watching. And his behaviors were accentuated by colleagues like Edwards and Grimes. In saying that, I am not sure we have a player to that level on our list.

Yeah I don’t think that’s helpful. They are right, and I was horrified in seeing that. Not that it happened, but as they have correctly stated, it just keeps happening and exacerbates a known fault in our list profile. While I feel Healy isn’t necessarily the best commentator, Roos noted it as a learning opportunity and Lyon clearly has the passion and anger we all share. I welcome this focus and scrutiny. If we are to have any chance to change and improve in 2020, we need to realise what’s going wrong.
