You're kidding right?

A win against GC and we are literally one win (and percentage) out of the top 8 with 14 games to play, in what will almost certainly be one of the most even season's we have had in a long long time.

Exactly.

It all hinges on todays game.   Make no mistake, this is do or die!

WCE will be gettable as they aren't playing great footy. GWS are in form however don't play the MCG often nor do they play it well... And Adelaide have started similar to us....

Wouldn't be surprised if we are firmly in the 8 come the bye... I also wouldn't be surprised if we lose 3 of the next 4 and officially end our season.

Love it @GCDee - they're my thoughts... wouldn't be surprised either way, either... and of course that means you can't get hurt when things go bad from the beginning, or go bad when things have been going well... such is the life of a Melbourne supporter!

I got this impression when we named Viney. No resting anyone. Need this win and need to get some momentum going for the month ahead.

For us to be back with the pack vying for finals, I recon we need to win 4 out of 5 or so of our games coming up, which isn't impossible, but is a tough ask when you look at some of the teams we are playing and the form we have been in for most of the season.  If we can get our form confidence and a few more key players back soon, I think anything is possible.  One thing is for sure though - if we do make finals this year, it will be off the back of having beaten the better teams in the competition as well as beating up on the easy beats and also rans.

Wins by bottom of the ladder teams like Sydney, North, Carlton, GC etc against the teams currently sitting in spots 4 - 12 is both quite feasible and would definitely help out cause should we be able to keep winning.  Was great to see Sydney beat Essendrug last night for this reason.  I think I will be supporting these underdog teams quietly on the side for the rest year.

This... And we need to get our best players fit and firing, the only way to do that is to play 1s.

ANB won't be playing when we get our players back from injury, it appears Lockhart, hunt and garlett are our chosen small forwards

Agree with your first statement, but not the second.

I don't think the team has 'chosen' small forwards the way you have phrased it - Jeffy and Hunt playing two for most of last year is evidence of that.  ANB can and will make his way back into the side if he can produce the required form.  I'm more and more convinced all the time that a forward we have really missed is Hannan.

Even if we win today we won’t make finals. Still have to play pies and eagles twice.

I beg to differ. I have hope. I believe. Our boys are good enough. They will improve. They will make us proud. Go MELBOURNE.

Love the optimism! Hope you’re right, go Dees

No I honestly think we have no chance, but I hope I’m wrong. We have 8 best 22 players out, and have to win 11 games from the last 15 in a tough draw. Several players still out of form so I think at best we can win 2 from the next 5 and be 4 and 8 at the bye. Too much ground to make up

We won't need 13 wins. 12, perhaps even 11 will earn a top 8 spot this season. The latter is a real chance if the pies, gws and cats clear away and win most of their games. Outside those teams clubs are incredibly even down ro suns, swans and blues.

But let's say 12 gets a team in. We win today and we need 9 from 14. Sure that is no small feat and everything has to go right (best players back, no more major injuries etc) but it is doable.

Afher this game we have a tough run into the bye and after the bye four very winnable games after.

And we can win all 4 of those games.

I really don't get this desperation to limp into the finals and just make up the numbers.  We're clearly not good enough in 2019.

Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Love your confidence.

We’re not playing finals this year. Our percentage is so far back that even if we chain some winning streaks together, we won’t make it. Should’ve learnt the lesson around percentage after the way our 2017 season ended missing finals by 0.5%. Instead we rolled over against Geelong and blew our season in round 2.

Still hoping for a few good wins this year, but it’s unarguably a wasted year.

We can still make it. Recapture last seasons form and some big wins to boost percentage. The maths are still on our side. The big challenge is ahead of us. Every week now counts and we can’t afford anymore losses to lower clubs. Only armchair experts have given the thumbs down.

If we somehow got into finals this year, we would not have limped in.

If anyone is still entertaining us playing finals this year on the back of that performance,  here is a sobering thought for you...... We have played only 1 team in the current top 8.

We are miles off.

I'm a glass half full kinda guy but whichever way you dice it, we aren't playing finals.

I have us winning 9 and I reckon that might be a little generous on current form.

Last year was very tight and 4 teams finished on 12 wins and none made finals. We have had our easy part of the draw and a terrible % so it will unlikely we will have a very good % so I reckon 13 for us is needed.

And now our entire backline is our injured!

We won’t be playing finals.

But, if we were to somehow win 2 of the next 4 games (WC, GWS, Adel and Coll) we’d by 5-7 at the bye and right in the thick of it. There are some BOG average teams in the 8 at the moment (Freo, BL, WB) which will give sides outside of the 8 some genuine hope.

In reality though, we’ll be lucky to win 1 of the next 4 - perhaps Adelaide in Darwin??

I doubt we will be limping in if we get there

Amazing that some are putting up the White Flag (so that we improve for 2020!!) We of all clubs know the consequences of that thinking.

We have had 2 lucky close wins to build some belief and resilience. We need to go into every game believing we can win, because of hard work. Yesterday was garbage, BUT The boys did not give up and they were rewarded with a Win.

Our skills are well down, why i cannot tell, but i do feel the team will click very soon if they still believe in each other.

Even if we finish 8th it is still valuable experience for a club that has failed so often.

The last 40 seconds of yesterday’s game just might be the turning point for a run of wins against good teams.
