On the assumption we will hopefully have a shake up of some coaching staff, this guy has seemingly done good things at the Hawks and would be a big upgrade on our current skills coach. Is he in charge of their forward line?

He’s probably still of more value IN the forward line right now.

I would love to see this happen.  Get Yze in as a specialist kicking coach and Brad Green as Forward Line coach.  Green was always very smart about his movement and getting out on hard leads.  I have no doubt he could teach our current forwards how to work together and lead properly while Yze taught our mids how to hit them on the chest.

Anyone know of any top fitness gurus that can rebuild bodies quick and keep bulk of our list on the park.....??

There is nothing "dumb" about this thread? Its a good idea. Couldnt do much worse than our current lot. Doubt Hawthorn would let him go atm though.

Any chance we could get a new marking coach?

Bring  Chris Dawes back ... oh wait... we learned everything he can teach us.

Would be great, every role at hawthorn that area has improved, goal kicking, development (credited for improving disposal skills and gameplan) and backline.

Fully agree McQueen, could do with his forward skill and nous at the moment.

From an ancient (2014) article at Hawthorn

" Yze played a key role in harnessing the Hawthorn players' elite kicking skills as they developed into the AFL's deadliest team in front of goal over the past two seasons. Since 2010, the team's accuracy has soared from 48 per cent to 57.1 per cent. "

Of course, that could just be because Buddy left at the end of 2013 :D :D

Ooh, actually, I stand corrected, even Franklin had dramatically improved his accuracy by the time he left. Oh, we've just got to get Yze in.

this isn't really a comment on Yze - but surely he is not the only one with 'intellectual property' on how to kick to team mates or kick for goal accurately?

With Jennings leaving, surely there must be room for a concerted campaign to make this happen. I’ve been told by posters here that his departure from the club was sour, but I haven’t been able to find any conformation on this. He spoke to the press in the lead up to the final against the Hawks (ahhhh, those were the days), and seemed genuinely pleased to see the team doing so well.

Our third-highest in games played, all-Australian and one of the most effective assistant coaches in the league in terms of improved skills (especially goal-kicking).

Make it happen!

I am usually not a fan of past players filling football department roles, and the MFC has an atrocious record as an "old boys club".

But from everything we can glean from footy on TV and the broader media, Yze is simply very good at what he does. So let's go and get him.

Can we use him as a player/coach. His disposal and goal sense is far superior to anything we have in the forward line at present

In addition to the romance of having Yze back, he comes from a long time in the Hawthorn system which is a big plus - and it looks like he has, in the words of Jack Dyer, coaching perspirations so could be a good fit.

The MFC should be on the phone right now to the ooze. Enough water has gone under the bridge

Can you shed any light on what went down between him and the club when he departed?

Pretty sure he wanted another year Mel, i am not sure. But i know he and Bruce were far from happy

Anyone have any idea on his contract status?

After a few seasons as line coach, this is his first season in the new role of Head of Match Day Strategy and Opposition.

No more ‘old boys’ please.

Agreed. Time to bring our best and brightest home. Agree no ‘old boys’ but he is clearly talented. We need all the help we can get

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
