We are putting all of our energy into Ed Langdon and yet the likes of Zak Jones, Tom Papley Congilio will all just waltz straight past us to either So Kilda or Carlton.

Is there any way we could get King without using our first round pick?

We don't seem to have much currency so the recruiting team need to be bold this year.

We need something special to happen.

We also have a raft of delistings required  so again the recruiting team need to make hard decisions and trade hard.

When people are discussing potential list changes the same names are put fwd,

JKH, Stretch, ANB, Spargo, Wagner, Omac etc.

Petracca and Hibberd seem to escape scrutiny. Hibberd turns 30 next year (last year of contract) so would be of no interest to any of the other clubs. The Suns would be chasing others in that age group but in the Luke Hodge mould.

We lack star power, when we drafted Petracca I was so excited thinking he would become a hybrid of Dangerfield and Robbie Grey. He is yet to deliver on his dominance as a junior and regularly goes missing for periods in games. I personally don’t think he’ll ever become the player we need him to. We are faced with the Watts / Hogan scenario, what have we learnt....We held Watts 1-2 years too long and got minimal return. We got rid off Hogan at exactly the right time and got May in return. Some argued we should got more and whilst this year hasn’t been great for May most were happy we were able to land him when we did. The time to move on Petracca is now, package him up with next years first round pick or trade for a mid to late first round and package that with next years first round pick and go after some real midfield class. Let’s go after Kelly, Cogniglio or Whitfield. Offer up some big money and make something happen. Another year of waiting for Petracca’s to reach his potential doesn’t cut it anymore.

You are way off the mark with Petracca 'Bombay'...

He has ben good in an otherwise lacklustre forward half.

If we need him to be a superstar you are probably right but if we need a good player then he is it.

Rather than superstar I expect him to step up to A grade for his position.

He's the least of our problems.

Important to note he's spent most of this season averaging around 20 touches and a goal, high in goal assists and ranked in the top 5 general forwards in the comp most of this year. for a guy early ish in his career still i think it's a bit rough asking for more.

it's literally only happening because he's not kicking bags but surely people would be happier with consistency?

RJAY my frustration surrounding Petracca is driven by his unfulfilled potential. Yes his overall game has improved but he’s still prone to fade in and out of games and his set shots on goal are a concern. I don’t see his disposal as damaging as others do. We’re a team crying out for stars, with Petracca I see an opportunity to move him on and re roll the dice.

Totally and utterly agree

Viney, Brayshaw and Petracca must be offered and see what we can get

How do you know that:

1. We’re only focusing on Langdon?

2. We’re not focusing on those other three?

3. They’re all going to St Kilda or Carlton?

Or is this just pure MFCSS?

So Carlton and St Kilda taking everyone. Maybe we can send a few over.

Salary Cap will be a problem especially for blues in two years time.

Think petracca improved this year so I wouldn’t be getting rid of him this year. Hibbert one is interesting-we have good cover down back and he would be valuable to GC. Him and future draft pick for King would be sweet. But we have more important areas to sort out before we bring in another tall forward.

There are some crazy posts on this thread. Petracca has had a very good year! I’m not sure how some on here can’t see that

No way Petracca is traded. Absolute nonsense. These are the same people that say Jones deserves to play every day regardless of form because he stuck fat during our lean years. But Jones got paid a #$@$load & is no longer best 22. I'd be staggered if we compromise the team 4 the individual & nurse him to 300 games. If he gets there he needs to be in form otherwise play him at Casey.

We could keep Jones, nurse him to 300, use his leadership at Casey whilst maintaining depth incase we are a mid short at some stage next year. Jones still has something to offer. Its a good precedent to reward loyalty at this club, even if he were well paid. We want it out there that if you join MFC we will reward your loyalty.

Totally agree, but lets not nurse him to 300, keep him on the list but make him earn the spot. He should be like Lewis this year and Vince the year before and be told he's not an automatic selection and that he has to be prepared to play Casey. He's been offered minimal money that reflects this anyway, and won't be captain next season.

Having said that, he would be the absolutely perfect person to go to the Gold Coast to help out for a year, but it would be cruel given what he's been through with us.

Given his father’s public criticism of the club and the fact that he is out of contract, will Joel Smith be leaving us? I thought that he looked likely at times, up forward.

He's one of a few intriguing names that are still uncontracted. Frost, Stretch (for different reasons) and ANB are the other ones for mine.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
