if papley was available, what's he worth? he's basically a first rotation midfielder at sydney at this point - has speed and nous around goal too

i imagine they'd want a future first round pick but there's no way known i'd want to give up that much for him, yet he's probably worth more than a second rounder

he would be a terrific addition to our mid / forward rotation, much as langdon would perfectly suit our half back run and spread from the contest

Papley would be a great get. Perfect may fits the modern game with his speed and skill level, isn’t afraid of getting hardball or working all the way up the ground either. He’s a tricky one to price in isolation. He’s worth more than a second rounder, but you’d be hard placed giving up a first rounder for him. Maybe it’s second rounder and a player for him, or first rounder for him and something else back.

Both him and Langdon suit us positionally and bring speed, which is the biggest weakness of our current list. Either would be a great get!

Re Sydney 'bottoming out'.  On OTC last night Roos said he was aware there were 2 outstanding players in the draft.

It made me think Sydney is positioning to get them: one with a very early pic and the other with an upgrade of a low 20's pic.  It may be a race to the bottom between them and Carlton.

Didn't WCE and Colllingwood do something similar at one stage?

Can’t recall anyone else doing it.

Nakia Cockatoo?  Injured, out of contract and possibly needing a change of scenery...

Has a lot of class and pace, but big questions on his body holding up and his ability to find the ball (never clocked up big numbers).

Geelong’s cap would have to be tight with all the players they’ve brought in.  His skill set, if he can get his body right, is exactly what we need.

Hunter Clark from StK. No 7 pick last  year. Having a form slump this year, possibly playing VFL this week. OOC at years end. Thoughts?

Does anybody know who we may chose in the mid season draft?

And also have we gone cold on Koby Farmer?

Sam Lowson.

Based on what info? He will be first chosen. Unless we are bottom of the ladder in two weeks, we are not getting him. I’d love a scent small forward, but think we have more immediate issues.

Carlton swapped their first round pick with Adelaide.

Oliver Eastland could be worth a punt but more long term than quick fix

Seen a bit to make me think he may develop into decent tall defender

Why on earth would the Club even think of recruiting another tall Defender when we have so many more pressing needs?

Lever, May, Frost, Oscar, Petty & even Keilty not enough???

List building is a continuing process and our needs specifically with the outside run won't be turned around with one mid season draft pick. Some wheeling and dealing at trade time is going to have to occur.

Omac - gone backwards needs to build confidence, may need a move and fresh start

Petty - not sure he'll be big enough but has time, lacks speed

Keilty - now playing as a forward but after 3 years do we have to make the call

Frost - ok but limited,  could end up being trade bait

Lever - great but need him to get an injury free run

May - as above

Eastland- shows the athleticism to play multiple roles. As i said it's a look ahead not the now. On what Ive seen he'll have a few chasing him in the draft come November.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
