I received the club email from SG this morning letting supporters know we will see an improved performance against Richmond.
I think we can all see many the issues that the team have at present and its fairly obvious that we are an easy team to play against.
However, I think there are many questions we loyal supporters would like answered. (Some of these I understand would need to remain in-house).
Here's my long long list. Feel free to add more (I found it quite therapeutic)

- What are the reasons for the huge drop off in performance from last year? (Apart from off season surgeries etc)

- Did the coaching staff see this coming? In hindsight, were there warning signs?

- Fitness seems low compared to other teams. Apart from surgeries etc, is this correct and if so, why has this happened?

- Some players seem heavy to my untrained eyes. Not saying fat, just too bulky. (eg Petracca, Hibberd). What are the coaches thoughts?

- Did players all come back in the shape expected? (apart from May who we have heard was behind levels expected)

- Are some players playing hurt? (eg TMac, Hibberd, Jetta, Weid etc)

- Is there any unrest within the group or towards coaching staff as there appears a huge disconnect at present?

- Why has the desire and intensity dropped off so badly?

- Why do the players' energy level seem so low? Again is it fitness, diet, desire?

- What's happened to the work ethic that drove us to the finals last year?

- Are there players who got ahead of themselves this season?

- Has a new game plan been introduced that they are struggling with? If not, do they all have amnesia and forgot it over the off season?

- SG has denied we are slow. Does he really believe that?

- Have the club over rated the list?

- What do the club see are the list needs for the draft / trading period at years end? Seems to me like there's holes on every line.

- What do the coaches think of the players' body language during the game? I see them with their heads dropped, bending over exhausted, little enthusiasm.

- What are the leaders doing on field to help lift team spirits, performance and motivation levels?

- Is there a motivation problem for some reason?

- There were few positional moves against the Saints. Why was this?

- How does the club view the depth of our list? Seems to me to be quite shallow on players who could play AFL. Reckon our bottom 6 yesterday are solid VFL players at best.

- What has happened to the Ruck / midfield dominance from last year? Have we become too predictable with hit outs and running patterns?

- Has the introduction of 6 6 6 stuffed us up this season?

- Why do the forwards all seem to lead to the same spot?

Did they seriously send an email around? What happens if we don't see an improved performance? Why do professional football players need to be told to bring effort?

I got the email. All it said was blah, blah, blah.

Writing on the wall, after 22 surgeries & interrupted  pre season, ask any fitness guru that unless u have a proper preseason  you are [censored] for the season!

Coach needs to answer as to whats happened to our defence foundations that Roos put in place, even last year we were getting scored against heavily

Why did we get rid of Kent, not that he was the difference but we are lacking goal kickers.

Dear MFC....

What was the process, method and reasoning used to arrive at a 4 year extension for SG as opposed to say 1 or maximum 2?

Is it just me or is it after every loss the amount of surgeries done in the off season goes up another 3-4?

Wasn't it 17 off season surgeries? Now its 22?

Did he mean by the improved performance, that there was some sort of drop off that had to occur in order to play the 2 games in 4 days situation?

I wouldn't waste my money being a member of this delusional club, so i obviously recieved no email.

Did Goodwin really guarantee a better performance against Richmond? That's just laughable if he did.

The club is so delusional they probably believe in the existence of God. Let me know when they send out the let's all pray to God for help email.

Club needs to start dealing in cold hard facts. The fact is we are the biggest rabble in the AFL. Stop wasting your time on bull [censored] feel good emails, and start looking at the team structure and game plan. Start looking at what new kids to draft in and who will coach our rebuild.

Why haven’t we drafted in much pace over the past 4 years? Can’t play with 15 inside mids

I have never entirely agreed with the " always draft the best available" as it is subjective anyway. Sometimes horses for courses is required.

I think the FD all had surgeries, frontal lobotomies.

I didn’t read all of it.

Is funny, this email, if sent to the club members is another example of the club being a rabble. I have 5 memberships with the club with some being very expensive ones and I have not received one email!

funnily enough, if the clubs wants something from me, I get 5 emails...

It’s a reasonable list of questions, but I don’t think any of them will be answered until someone writes their memoirs.

Why can't we execute basic skills: handpass to your team mate's chest, not his feet. (To advantage seems to be asking far too much.) Kick to his head or chest, not to the opponent 5m in front or behind him. Kick between the two big sticks, not somewhere vaguely near them (try to land the ball in the crowd at least).

Why is our game plan so easily picked apart by every team without exception? Why can't we react? We're like the comedy straight man who get squirted in the face by the plastic flower every time.

Why can't we steal a march on a club and surprise them? Why are we always the team to be caught out by oppo strategy?

How come we have not got any genuine key position players and so often have to play players out of position? Why are we so short on pace? SG had been there for the rebuild and inherited a good list where is it now? If he had any self-respect he should resign if he can't do the job. The coach more than anybody else is responsible for our results, SG deflects responsibility. He has lost many games by being out coached and has no plan B or C. He has not got the best out of our list - it has gone backward. I believe Hogan wanted to stay, why did he get bundled out the door for crap?SG should have been given a performance-based contract, this will be his last and only job as a senior coach.

Can someone please clarify what email this is?

i received the ‘after the siren’ video Goodwin has been doing but no text email.

If you are going to ask sensible questions, you should probably follow another club.

...and I still say the drop off happened last year in the Prelim.

Nothing has been done to change the obvious short comings that blind Freddie could see in that game.

I must credit Geelong with using their loss against us in the final as a huge wake up call. They reviewed, took no prisoners and worked hard in the off season to change their game plan, positioning and personal and now have a crack at another flag.

We on the other hand just excused the performance as not being the real us.

Problem is, it was the real us...and now we're repeating the same mistakes.

Maybe it was a bad time for a changeover of CEO, with Jackson leaving, Mahoney applying for the job and Pert yet to come on board...the prelim performance fell between the cracks. We dropped the ball...

Now we know that CEO's shouldn't meddle too much with the FD but either the head of football, Mahoney or the CEO should have seen that a thorough review was taken after that loss. That is in their job descriptions.

Then of course the warning signs were there for all to see in the preseason competition but most couldn't see them. Those who questioned the performances were said to be over reacting, or told don't worry we got this it's just the JLT games.

Wrong...

Time for a thorough review and a turnover of the FD...

We haven’t drafted in anything that noteworthy because we have continued to give away our top picks for players that can’t get out on the park

I still think May was a ridiculous trade if they really thought he was adding more than Hogan - as for KK I’ve said from the outset it’s a total mystery why they thought he would add anything , not quick , not hard at it and can’t get himself on the field - List clogger

The only thing that surprised me about yesterday’s loss was the fact that most so called experts picked out spuds to win - I had $100 on the saints to win 1-39

of course our spuds screwed that up as well by losing by 40

hopefully this year we don’t throw our top 2 or 3 draft pick at someone for another bench warmer

Yup we havent learnt from clark or harry obrien experiments. I think lever and May will come good. But not having young talent comming through is very problematic. In the long term. We were recruiting as if we had the premiership in the bag.

Sound advice. I'm going to follow this club from now on. It looks less painful.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
