Stretch is not fast, not sure why so many think he offers pace. He is aerobically fit, so he can run long distances. But he is not fast and is not powerful in his running movement.

My point was that nett with these changes we are slower. Stretch's tank gets him to the next contest (not dissimilar to ANB). Jetta and Lewis play defensive roles similar to Oscar so I feel we've lost out with speed in the midfield.

I hope we aren't shown up for numbers at the (next) contest as a result. Like we were last year Rd15

Would’ve liked Jeffy in

Jeffy will get his chance.  Had we lost last week i suspect he would have been straight in.  If only we could play two matches at the same time ....one with Jeffy in and one with Spargo and see how they go!

Spargo will be hearing Jeffy's footsteps this week though i would think and will really need to put the pedal to the metal to retain his place from here (unless the FD is happy playing both of course).

Spargo is still chasing Jeffys dust. Spargo is small, but he’s got poor-average pace and doesn’t hit the scoreboard. He’s more of a natural midfielder and isn’t suited to the small forward role.

We need Jeff in the team. He’s the most proven goal kicker on our list and offers elite speed.

It’s ridiculous. The kid should ask to be traded. He is being crucified.  Gets a game. Looks okay then dropped. Spargo was horrible and yet is named again. Ridiculous.

Stretch was not good last week, his direct opponents were Heeney/ Florent they flogged him all night... deserves to be dropped.

I tend to agree LT.  If i had an in form hungry Jeffy having put in enough training time on the track or ressies i would be going for Jeffy 9 times out of 10 unless we were looking for a specific defensive run with role from a smallish forward to shut down a prolific damaging play maker coming out of our 50.

I read Dermott Brereton is mentoring the Saints forwards. We should win by 20 goals.

Agree. Late out maybe?

Saints beat us last year at the Gee when they intercepted on half back and just ran the ball forward at all costs along the wings.  Made us look slow and unaccountable. Looks likely to happen again this week.

Talk of Umpires  ,maybe we could get special permission for Clarrie toto wear black & white and he will get all the free kicks going, based on Brisbane vs AFL Umpiring panel game currently under way.

We should have won by 10 goals. We kicked the last 3 goals at the death to get close.

They dominated uncontested possession and kicked 10 goals to 5 from "defensive half chains" which means they ran the length of the ground over and over again to score goals

I was there, it was painful to watch them running all over us

Agree Saints pace will AGAIN worry us.  Jetta and Lewis actually slows us.

I encourage you to review the impact that spargo’s Offensive possessions had - its pretty clear

Poor Poor reasoning and rationale but sadly FD agree.

Agree again. I’m still not sure Spargo is good enough. No special qualities.

If you don’t chase and go in expecting to win without effort you lose to the Saints by 2 points.

After that disgraceful performance last year the Demons tightened team defence, similar to what we did against the Swans in the 2nd half last week.

If Melbourne turn up, ready to play team defence, they win! If they don’t it will be a likely loss.

We look average with Hore & two Wagners in the team, prefer see Jeffy in and anyone instead of JWag. HOre was better against Swans but still looks slow and disposal iffy! Anyway let’s hope they all play well and the Demons win!

It's not when he gets the ball that concerns me, he's good with ball in hand...but he doesn't get it enough...

...more importantly as 'Earl' says above the Saints cut us up from half back last year.

Spargo offers zero defensive pressure.

I noticed and heard Hodge telling Roseberry he had made some mistakes and then later Umpire 22 at the end of the 2nd quarter.

He got it 8 times last week and I saw him not tackle a number of times.

Agree with you that he needs to get the ball more and have more defensive pressure.

He is good with ball in hand though.

I know, finally OMac is dropped (I thought this was not possible, no matter how poorly he performed) and we have Josh Wagner in, because he played well last week. He plays ok (just) every now and then, but history says he will have a mare soon and it will probably cost us a game (example of one selection costing a game: Petty last year against Saints). Need those types out ASAP. Wouldn’t someone like Billy Stretch have loved the run that Oscar got.

Omac dropped. I didn't see that coming. I got it wrong on him not being dropped this year.

He'll be back soon enough. Probably come in as an emergency this week.

A decision in a point in time - whilst he hasn’t set the world on fire as of yet - he’s certainly demonstrated the cool head and the correct I50 disposals that Jeffy could only muster when we went end to end. I assume the FD considered a grubby pressure F50 (given the lack of quality St Kilda Rucks) where physicality - not running into an open F50 - is required. Sadly, Jeffy has struggled with that to date. Spargo for me!

If you went to the game, you’d reconsider on Hore - he was an absolute Jet!

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
