I don't know why his preference is relevant

The Bombers will find out this year.

I said it a little while ago. But I believe Harmes 5 year contract (possibly back ended) was done early to free up space to take Martin...

Mate he's not coming to us.

I'd love jack martin at the club, however I'd much prefer to have cap space and be in the picture for those 2020 free agents. [censored] that list looks amazing

Previously cold to occasionally lukewarm, I'm now fully in support of poaching Martin from Carlton. The surprise inclusion of Bennell has left me ravenous for more, a return to my lower socio-economic youth when at Christmas I would tell myself that presents didn't matter - until I unwrapped the very first gift, and then instantly bored of last freebie and caught in the grip of a capitalistic frenzy would be immediately desperate for fresh stimulation. Who gave a [censored] if the parents couldn't afford it?

Take him at pick 2 and pay what we can afford.  Maybe around 350-400k

Wanted to play for Carltank? Bad luck pal, its a draft

Keep up. He nominates a contract amount which must be agreed upon. We can't give him 350 if he has nominated 600

Or $800k, if Blues can afford it and they know we want him.

If he doesn't want to play for us at a reasonable amount, make those scum bags pay through the nose.

I heard from someone in the know at Carlton that they will front load at 800k for the first year and offer a five year deal.

He is not coming to us.

Has he actually nominated his salary yet? When does he have to?

In my opinion if he isnt worth 800K per annum, he must be close. I wouldnt be surprised if he really turns it on next year. Although we have many irons in the fire, Martin is close to a sure bet as an A grade player.

think you'll get some disagreement on that claim.........anyway, no way we have a chance

Probably im wrong but I think he is fit now and ready to fire. Much more likely to play 20 games than Bennell. While costing a lot more than any other PSD player, if we have the money, I hope we go for it and act like a big club would.

Didn't  this scenario happen to us years ago with that backman from Sydney.???. Put a shitload on his own head so we couldn't pay and got to the tigers.  Thought the afl should of canned this loophole  by now, if you ask for $800 a year, they should make sure that player gets it for the contract years. If ya that desperate to get out of a club, bad luck pal.

Jack Martin has attracted 10 times the amount of headlines through this dummy spit episode of wanting to get to Carlton, compared to his entire playing career. Talk about melodramatic. Avoid.

I'm happy with Bennell, someone who wants to be at the club.

He nominates a 2 yr salary from what I understand. So if Carlton offer him a 5yr deal with the first 2 at $800 and the next 3 at $300 lets say (ie $500k a year) we are unlikely to match the first 2 yrs at $800 (he is under no obligation to sign 5 yrs)

Darren Gaspar. It was about 300k - huge at the time.

Quoting the famous "The castle" line "Tell them they are dreaming. He wants 5 years at a million a year  for many club wanting him in the pre season draft.

It's not a million per year mate, just a million for the first year on what would be a heavily front loaded contract to ward off potential suitors.

He doesn’t want a million a year, probably more realistically 600-700 and no doubt performance bonuses.

But he can and likely has structured the deal with 1Mil for the first year. Exactly what everyone predicted.

That number would force us to back end a lot of money and harm our chances of retaining Oliver and Petracca on good deals and then likely cost us player/s down the road.

What a [censored], happy to see him go to Carlton and chew up their salary. Absolutely no where near worth the money he is demanding.

This is where the AFL should institute a rule that says the average per year is what cold be matched. It its 5 years for 600k AVERAGE per year, that is what clubs should be allowed to match, not the heavily front ended number. If another club will pay 600 per year for 5 years............

Rule worth considering imo.

He would have been nice, but we dont need him.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
