The fact we made the prelim without him for most of the year is quite remarkable really. I hope he isn't being rushed back. Get that knee right Jakey, we need you in September.

If Lever plays at the level he was before his knee then he's gonna be a hell of a player. Just needs to stay fit.

Ribbish.  It would have been more remarkable if we had not have been injured and we went through the season practically major injury free.

It's not like our backline is total rubish without Lever and May.  More than enough capability to hold things together between Hibbo, Nev, Salem and even guys like Oscar and Frosty proved they can provide solid defensive options.  If we had got desperate, we could have thrown T Mac back there and as it was, I think Max Gawn provided any additional coverage in the air we might have needed.

Most teams in the comp would be pretty envious of our backline without Lever and May, but having them there gives us so much depth back there now it's not funny.  Competition for spots will be fierce and guys like Hore and Lewis will have there job cut out for them getting a game, but that's a great thing because players so often get injured and fall out of form.

His breakout game for us last season vs his old mob the Crows was a brilliant performance.  He attacked the man and the ball fearlessly. (May have even polled Brownlow votes?)   Unfortunately we all know what happened the week after, but this guy is going to be one of the best backman the MFC has ever had as long as his injuries are behind him.

Lever is a class above and l expect him to make us even a better team with him down back there. After all he is one of our leaders.      ANB has skill knows where the goals  are tackles hard  and runs hard all day.

What more can you ask of them. Thorough professionals.

With Lever back and firing and the addition of May I see our backline becoming a 'no-fly zone'. Bring the pressure up the ground, scruffy kick in, chop off.

Get Hunt firing again on top of this and THAT could be scary!

Lever will provide sold support for Omac. Nice to have a bit off cover. About time he got a chop out.

Yep thats why he was recruited. To support Oscar. FMD

I think saying "most teams would be jealous of our back line without lever or may" is a bit of a stretch when Omac and Frost are the two tall's. Talk about rose colored glasses lol ... Frost only learned how to hit a target in his last few games last year. And while Omac is serviceable, to say he is enviable is borderline insanity.

Agree we are in a good position now and that competition for spots will indeed be fierce.

Also baffles me that some here think the answer to a struggling back line last year was to remove our leading and most accurate goal kicker from the forward line.

Does anyone know if Lever has gone to the US to do the intensive knee recovery/rehab that Petracca did after his knee?  I seem to remember reading Lever was going to go through the same process.

You really think so? I mean I was joking but you know your footy so perhaps you're right and lever was recruited to support omac.

And whilst personally I'd have may, hibberd, jets and lever ahead of him good on you for giving him the FMD (Fore Most Defender) title. Takes a strong character to admit when you got it wrong and change your tune.

i can't see anyone even scoring against us...... barring the usual white maggot bias

Been literally months since I've heard of - or considered - 'the white maggot bias'. Hope it does not re-appear in 2019 now that we have done a stint in the finals regardless of its negative effects.

Love it, Daisy... although it is hypocritical to acknowledge that stance, after so many umpiring interruptions to the Dees' game across the past few years and bleating about it on DL as a regular feature of our footballing outcomes. With more wins, and with a very well respected game week after week, the 'white maggots' might wane a little just like Razor Ray did; our game really improved - or let me say, out tendency to lose matches hit a low point.

Just need to get 80,000 Demons supporters to the MCG every week and make it a cauldron like the Eagles have over there - seems to work for them.

They who booos the loudest wins the most dodgy free kicks!

That will depend on how many times the AFL asks the bald headed one to regulate...............i mean adjudicate our games.

Lever’s & May’s additions to the backline are the reason I think Jordan Lewis will play <10 games in 2019, maybe as few as 5.

He shifted into Lever’s role as an intercept defender, but if Lever is back to fill this role, where do we shift Lewis to?

He shuffled around like he was wearing gumboots as it was, but just can’t see him managing to perform in a role where he doesn’t zone off.

I’d like them to throw Lewis forward, he’s a great kick for goal.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
