Is that you Krausey??

Not actually my surname!! (maternal side)

Could tell you a few more stories about his career... and his bone dry sense of humour (the story above is a good one... he was a ruck, so Barassi didn't pinch his spot!!)

It was last year at my local gym.

There is a lady there who had a son that was an international student at Caulfield Grammar. One night, I wore my ANZAC guernsey in and she told me that her son had some kind of interest in AFL but he barracked for a team with a flame haired woman as it's logo.

Turns out it was us after all as he had supposedly been in the cheer squad after Troy Broadbridge's death (hence the Redheads matches logo).

But that's not the kicker to the story. Last year after we shat the bed against Collingwood in round 23, I considered myself lucky that I didn't have people at work and in my neighborhood throwing that result back in my face. No sooner had I gone to the gym the following Monday that she approached me and said '試合の結果は残念だったね/Shame about the match result!'

Lovely lady but that was almost gym demotivation right there!

In 1999 Craig Cameron came into the shop I was working in, and when I complained about Darren Kowal being delisted he said "get a new favourite player". Never liked him after that.

not a consistent player, Darren but when he was "on" he was a beautiful player to watch. Fast and highly skilled.

So he reeled me in? Anyway he was a lovely guy, and I really enjoyed meeting him.

In 2006 I travelled out to Hoppers Crossing for a wedding. Chris Lamb was one of the guests and after introducing myself we talked a bit about his career to which he didn’t give too much away. We mainly talked about the epic 2002 semi against the Crows.

He said it was the most incredible game he ever played in and labelled Trapper’s performance as the most incredible individual one he’d seen as a participant. He remembered a couple of the players vomiting during the 3 quarter time break such was the effort in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. He said unfortunately we didn’t have many petrol tickets left in the last quarter.

Free beer and a chat with a former MFC player, top night.

I had a work xmas lunch at the Stokehouse about 8 years ago. Andrew Leonchelli was with another group.

I introduced myself to him, then told him that I was a Demons supporter. He put his arm around my shoulder and said "you poor man". I then told him that I had been telling my female colleagues that he had kicked the winning goal against Adelaide a few years earlier. Without further ado, he marched over to our table, took out his mobile and showed the ladies himself kicking the winning goal. He had clip on his phone!!!

I sent him an email a few years later reminding him of that meeting. (I think it was when Melbourne pulled off an upset against Adelaide") He replied ... "Yes, I remember. I think I'd had too much to drink".

Top bloke Very friendly.

ALSO good at confronting plane hijackers!

My son played footy (U12) with Neale Daniher's son years ago. So spoke to him on a number of occasions.

Needless to say, he was very friendly.

Not really a random encounter I suppose!!

Stayed in a Deniliquin caravan park in the early 90s for a long weekend.  As a one-eyed, young teen, Demon supporter, it was a great thrill seeing Darren Cuthbertson staying in the caravan behind us.  Had my Demon footy, and he happily obliged to sign it for me.

3 names mentioned of footballers that I thought could have made the grade or been better.

Selection decisions, coaches likes and dislikes, being played out of position, loss of confidence all played a part.

Lamb, Kowal, Cuthbertson. all showed glimpses of form that suggested they could be top players.

But not to be.

Holidaying in Surfers' as a young fella (1981?) I was in a beer garden and there was this bloke had his feet up on the chair I wanted to sit on.

I pulled the chair out from under his feet as I asked 'can I have this one mate?' and at the same second as I realised it was Mark Jacko Jackson on the end of year footy trip with other Demons.

Shat myself but survived.

Was buying a shirt in Myers at Westfield Doncaster back in '07 (or thereabouts).

Browsing away and had to ask a fella to excuse me as I slipped in front of him and as I did I looked up I realised it was Tulip.

I was too awestruck to speak.

Good question, but I still have a soft spot for Kowal now. Craig can do one.

Same video shop (NB: I was young) where an Essendon player came in with his missus to borrow softcore porn. What an era.

I was standing next to Wheels in [censored] Smiths at Chadstone in my Melbourne polo shirt on a weekend in about 2004, looking at him thinking “I’m sure I know this guy” - worked it out 10 seconds after he left.

i was hungover to be fair.

just noticed the censor - I’ll refer to the store as Richard Smiths

Interestingly, I shared several waves with Jacko at Pambula Beach in January 1981.  He rode a longboard.

Even then ( I had to stand behind him in the Holiday Hub reception while he extremely politely dealt with an issue relating to his camp site. I remember thinking "this guy with a funny voice sure has a cute girlfriend"!)

I learnt a lot from that encounter. I learnt about the simple fact that we're all simple human beings, that it's just so bloody easy to make snap judgements,  that all of them are usually skewed by prejudice and are simply WRONG.

You've convinced me to revise  the uninformed profile I've built up in my mind of you Deiter, modeled on a drunk that lived in my small town named Creepy Santa but with he addition of one of those spiky pickelhaube helmet things.

I also saw Simon Godfrey at Inflation nightclub about 15 years back. I went up to him and said "Go Dees" like a groupie. He looked at me strange. Good times.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
