I expect to see Gawn rest forward a lot more this year due to Preuss coming on board. Big Max floating in for clunks and Tom and Weed providing some good leads will be a mare for opposition to match up on. 

No need to look for another tall imo. 

There is of course another way to view this

We were the highest scoring team with 2299 for ....and 1749 against...  % of 131

Even if we managed to effectively kick one goal less a game...or 132 points less for  2167 for   

BUT with a better defence saved 2 goals a game.... that would be 264 less   for 1485

we would have a percentage of  145.9 !!!   not only that but we would have won 3 more games possibly.

Thats SECOND on the ladder !!!!

Its not so much about supposedly replacing 47 goals...as much as playing smarter and better.

Tim Smith another option.

We tried Joel Smith forward a couple of times this year including in the 2nd half of the PF.  He has that incredible genetic leap and is fast and a good tackler so his defensive capabilities are sound.   It will be interesting to see if he's training with the forwards next year.

Apparently medical checks identified a serious and chronic torn eye brow. Cameron to go for a 4th rounder

Otherwise I think playing less tall in the fwd half without Hogan will be the option. Hopefully Weeds continues to develop too. 

I don’t see the need to play 3 genuine talks.

TMac and Weid along with a range of mediums and smalls is more than enough.  In fact, it’s the structure we successfully employed after the Sydney match and kicked a winning score against West Coast, GWS, Geelong and Hawthorn.

Max will certainly spend a lot more time up forward now that Hogan has gone and we have Preuss...let's hope he works out how to nail those 20m set shots from directly in front!

Though. It's good to have the option. Looking at how WC did it this year, I'd have liked to keep Hogan for that reason. In most areas of the field most teams have options to match up. Not too many serious KP defenders though.

The OP may have forgotten TMac, but the question is a good one. How do you replace Hogan, and don't say Weed. He's not that good.

Personally I'm bullish about the Fritsch, Spargo, Tracca, Melksham types. Also whoever we grab in what will be a big draft this year. No reason why you can't look to smaller players to share the load.

Weed will Hogan's role. 

Full 22 games from Weed = 30-40 goals

Full 22 games from McDonald = 65-75 goals.

Surely that gets the job done.

Hadn't forgotten TMAC. I mean't TMac/Weed become our 2 KPF's, so perhaps the better question was: Who is our depth KPF given many have asked "what if Weid or Tmac get injured? Tim Smith is not the greatest option long term. Fair enough we spread the goal kicking load and also use Gawn/Preuss. Just thought an additional player that can play 3rd tall but fill in the gap with an injury, would be handy. A player in a similar style to Josh Bruce. I never saw Preuss/Gawn as the prototypical permanent forward, but perhaps Cox has changed the FD's mind.

my Kangas fan mate reckons we have the steal of the trade period with Preuss.  His words:"better than Max in 2 years" which I strongly doubt but even as good would be huge for us.

Ah gotcha. Misread.

For me it's pretty simple. TMac and Weed will take the lions share. Preuss and Gawn will be attempted until they realise neither can play major time forward if you want to win. Preuss they'll look at as a Cox type. Which drives me NUTS.

But yeah. We have that many picks, 7 at time of posting, you'd have to assume there'd be a number of KP players.

The club has a high opinion of Harry Petty who was tossed to the wolves when not ready in his one AFL game against St Kilda. He was recruited as a key position defender who also played forward in his junior days. 

With Steven May coming to the club and Jake Lever set to return, it might be worth trying Petty up forward.

Garlett is worth 40+ goals a season. Give him a nice bit of fluffy encouragement and he might just perform.

I think many here are missing the point. No team keeps all their best players on the paddock the whole year. The smart teams manage a list with talent in reserve.  So say T Mac misses another 2 months with foot problems. Is Weid alone our power forward and path to a premiership? 

Hogan was contracted and agreed to play for at least another year (perhaps more). You don't let player like that go....ever, unless absolutely no alternative!

An incredible genetic leap means sfa because he hardly holds any marks: much as I love the guy.

Mahoney "ok Goody, the plan is to trade out Hogan Kent and Tyson, and trade in May, Kolathingy and Preuss, we haven't any idea or plan going forward as to what the forward line will look like, that ok with you?

With Jesse gone I think the idea is to make our forward line more flexible and unpredictable. TMac (if able to stay on the park) has proven himself to be a very good marking forward, he is the key. If he stays fit I’m not worried. 

Weiderman still has a lot of development in him but with Jesse moved on games will come more frequently. The end to the year will surely give him confidence, he just needs to bulk up. 

As many have also pointed to we have recruited Preuss and I feel like this is what the club earmarked him for, allowing he and Maxy resting time in the forward line. I expect Max to kick more goals next year as a result, and who knows Preuss come become a cheeky valuable forward/ruck for us.
