Farewell Dom Tyson

I think Tyson's a fringe player these days, and I'm not sure there's a massive need for fringe mids because midfield depth is relativelyeasy to find. I wouldn't be tossing him away for nothing, but if we can find value in a trade that gets Tyson more midfield minutes then it's a win/win.

Straight swap for Josh’s Kelly would do me.

Yep been saying it for the last 5 or so years. People dont take honesty very well on these 1 sided forums, but to me he's necer been any better that a straight out B-Grader (not even a B+,just a B).He has been loyal to the Dees through poor times but i see that more a case of no other club realy wanting him, over him just sticking solid with us.We do have a conundrum coming up because even now i see him as a fringe player but next year i think he drops back further & how do we handle dropping him?

Hes never been quick, can't take an overhead mark, isnt a great kick, gets caught holding the ball every game because his ability to evade is poor. Not saying he us garbage but there is a reason most other supporters dont rate him & only see him as a solid toiler

IMO this is slightly unfair. I think through 2016 at least he was a B+er, but I completely agree on the conundrum and that's basically what I was getting at.

For me he was on the fringe for much of the year and because we had better players on the inside and at half back, the only place we could play him was on a wing.

I must be in the minority then. He is steady and solid, a great leader and heart and soul of this group. He brings 100% each game and has probably the least variance between best and worst games of anyone on our team.

This is the kind of rubbish thinking that got Junior pushed out of the club. We could see the results of that shallow thinking play out for years.

Not sure I'm thinking shallowly at all when I'm acknowledging the difficulty of even leaving him out of the leadership group next year.

I want to win a flag, so we should be making list decisions and MC decisions based on ensuring we field the strongest side from week to week. I also want to treat a loyal servant of the club fairly and respectfully. I'd keep him in the leadership group but I don't think he should be captain, because he won't be a walk up starter next year.

Despite what Plugger says (:D) I do have an ability to see the player for what he is (we just simply disagree, Plugger) and that's, in his prime, a B+er, but we have improved our list so much and he's grown older and slower, and it's time to make a grown up call on him. As above, that must be handled delicately and intelligently.

I don't hate Jones. I just don't rate him higher than a B grader in his prime.

If you take his body of work this year, it's pretty clear he's on the cusp of the 22. I think most would agree with that.

4th in the bf and he's cusp of best 22. I don't agree with you and clearly neither do the coaches.

gets caught holding the ball too often. understand people want him for depth purposes but other players will come in and be those depth players

According to Trade Table, all but gone, along with AVB

And dean Kent

Who was it that called Dal Santo up on SEN and corrected him about Tyson's disposal? ?

He would be a loss. Not a massive loss but one that would need to be replaced.

No doubt it was @stevethemanjordan. I can just picture him choking on his brunch when he heard Dal Santo make those comments!

Lols.

I didn't hear it, what did Dal Santo say?

Probably that Tyson is a lovely kick. BT and numerous other commentators always drop this line in.

Where have I heard this before?

It is this year's "I would love to be a one-club player."

Dal Santo said that Tyson had a 'neat kick' and clean disposal or something very similar.

Caller rang up asked Dal Santo how many Melbourne games that he has actually watched and that he was no good by foot and wasnt clean at all. Then another person called in and basically backed that up.

Gets caught too often and turns it over regularly. No big loss especially if it gets us a 2nd round draft pick.

It doesnt even serve the club to talk him down though. Maybe if we let these false observations fester, a nuffie like Sticks Kernahan will pressure his list manager to pick him up with a high pick. One can dream..

Memo to dees supporters: if one of our blokes is on the trade table talk them up not down.

Sample diagloue:

dom Tyson has never missed a target in his life.

Has dom even fumbled a ball before?

That’s quite funny that someone actually called up to correct Dal Santo about Tyson’s disposal. I don’t know why anyone could be bothered but I’m glad that they can.

I like Dom as an inside mid but this media myth about him being a lovely kick is maddening. BT often describes him as one of the best kicks in the side when it’s the exact opposite.

BT is a muppet though, so no surprises there. Has the insightful capacity of a grape.

We aren't getting a second round pick for him 40-55 is his value this would be similar for Kent and AVB

Exactly why I'd hate to lose him. Can't see that pick helping us out if Viney and Oliver go down.

You think? Maybe.

I think they have no problem winning the ball, they just need mods who run both ways.

Do our mods run both ways ????     MODS ?????????

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
