That feels rather arbitrary - there was a post earlier this week that showed clear outs were on average 8-9 - with some (inc WCE) on 12 last year.

Which Vic teams have been light on contested ball winners this year? Essendon and Carlton are the only ones I can think of. Maybe the Saints. I cant see him leaving the state and he is handy quality depth for us but not best 22. 

I'd be reluctant to let him go.  No team ever gets through injury free. Which young midfielder that we haven't yet seen at senior level is going to be better than Tyson if Viney gets hurt again or if Brayshaw gets concussed, or Oliver's shoulders don't come up?  I think the GF proved that depth is crucial.  Both sides were a long way from their best 22 yet still played an extraordinary game of footy.  Tyson played some pretty reasonable footy towards the end of the H&A season and was nearly best on against the Giants for the first half before he broke his arm.  He can play.  People knock his disposal and it's true he isn't a fantastic kick, but he can find the footy and he is a big, experienced body.  As long as his arse points south he'll never be a winger but he is an important part of our depth.  Hold him to his contract.

Would someone like Hawthorn be interested?  Could get a run and take the pressure of Mitchell and O'Meara, who is always a worry with injuries.

He runs hard to get the ball and he has clean reliable hands over head and in traffic. That's a useful player even if unsuited to the wing.

Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and Harmes are the starting mids, but we can cover them with Petracca, Vanders (if he stays), Nath Jones (short term next year should be young enough to provide some inside midfield cover), Maynard - who's both overrated and underrated on here but can play if given a chance and even ANB or Salem if required. Plus inside mid is the easiest position to pick up a state league or delisted player. 

SPOT on! He isn’t damaging at all, that’s his greatest downfall. If he had awareness and the speed to run inside fifty and goal on the run, he’d be a jet! Sadly, he does not possess said attribute. He is a slow thinker and when given the opportunity to do damage inn tr attack, he muffs it 9 times out of ten.

Interested to hear what everything thinks about this - would we do a deal considering that Kent will leave and AVB is also weighing up his future?  It seems like it could be a large turnover for us considering how well we are going, but I guess this is what happens when you have greater depth, something we haven't had for a decade.

Sounds like a few clubs have show some interest, but whether or not they would give us something decent in return is debatable.

I thought he was out of contract for some reason but I see he is actually contracted until 2019.

I'm in the 'keep' camp as well...it's easy to trade all the guys who aren't 100% guaranteed a spot in the starting 22 but then where does that leave you when the inevitable injuries hit? West Coast were missing 3 or 4 of their absolute best side for the Grand Final but still had a deep enough squad to win the premiership: Sheed probably wouldn't have even played had Gaff not been suspended and he was their 2nd best player on the day.

Yep I think you're bang on with carlton or the druggies. 

Saints seem to have an abundance of the Tyson type and would be crazy to bring him in unless they are losing some of their current inside mids. 

Cleary if we can get him to carlton maybe we can trade one of our thirds plus Tyson for a 2nd and a 4th of carlton's. 

There he would be playing bulk midfield inside mid minutes along side cripps and I think he will flourish.

WC were probably better with Sheed instead of Gaff.  All season WC were poor at contested footy.  Sheed plus Shuey coming good were the main reason they turned that stat around.  

But point is our list needs to go deep.  We were probably 28 or 29 in 2018.  3 if that gone for sure and maybe another 2 or 3 to go.  The other 4 or 5 are not relevant.  So we probably need 5 afl ready players trade or drafted in.  If we trade Dyson out then we would improve if we got a true outside mid back.

Valid point, but the other 2 depth players the Eagles had were Schofield and Vardy replacing Shepherd Nic Nat, that kind of depth makes sense to keep as they are difficult players to replace. Sheed was a young player with a lot of upside who Simpson dropped to work on a few things - most likely his disposal and two way running, I'm not sure there was ever talk of trading him last year. I see him more like Angus Brayshaw, getting dropped a few times and coming back better.

If Gaff was staying at the Eagles now they'd probably be looking to trade out one of their mids to keep him. Probably Masten. It's not that we just give him away but we work out who's coming in and going out and if he has value.

If Vandenberg goes I’d keep Tyson. He’s a solid if no frills inside midfielder who’s been a bit harshly judged of late playing a role on a wing he’s not suited to.

Jones is on a bit of a decline and Viney is forever one wrong twist of his foot away from a 6-week lay off. I wouldn’t be so hasty to be offloading a guy who can distribute the footy from a pack like Dom can. He’s not an A grader but he can play.

I enjoy pesting when posters are so sure that a player is heavily entrenched in the best 22 at the start of the year and refuse to see the guys obvious weaknesses that continue to keep him at the level he is at.

I disagree. I think we played Tyson over Fritsch because he is experienced and was considered to be more 'finals ready'.

He admitted he was nervous about being dropped and his three finals were all extremely underwhelming. 

His manager has now come out suggesting he'd be open to a trade.

Clearly, and I mean clearly, he is not considered best 22 when we have a full squad available.
