    If you were Freo or Essendon and know that it is looking likely that Scully could go to Hawthorn for pick 50 odd.... and that seems as much to do with Salary Cap issues as anything, why would you be offering Pick 11 (for Lobb) or 2 first round picks for Shiel. They can't afford these players to stay.... I think they've played this trade period only slightly better than Freo which is saying something. 

    .... I mean they are looking at bringing back Mumford... that surely is as much about salary as it is about anything else.....

    Fair to say myself and many others also are becoming quite cynical about this years trade period. Seems like all these media leaks are just a bunch of pantomime in anticipation of the trade telecast tomorrow. Reminds me of the lead up to WrestleMania back in the day. Farcical.

    Geelong have lost the plot!

    "Geelong has turned up the heat on West Coast as it bids for Tim Kelly by demanding a future first-round pick be included in any trade for the contracted midfielder...AFL.com.au understands the Cats have asked for the Eagles' first-round selection in next year's draft in addition to West Coast's existing offer of picks No.20 and No.22". 

    That will be Eagle's pick 15-18 in 2019 - effectively 3 low 1st round picks for someone who has played for one year.  Kelly has been terrific but his longevity has not been tested.

    Dreaming or fearful; not much in the cat’s cupboard after ‘the holy trinity’. Ablett’s probably going into his last year, Selwood’s not far behind him and Dangerfield wilted badly under finals pressure - cracked the sads and resorted to giving away petulant free kicks.

    This is basically Geelong refusing to trade. Interesting to see what happens and how Kelly reacts. Doesn’t seem like a shy chap

    They’re playing hard ball with West Coast or Geelong got really clever after the reported offer of pick 11 from Freo for Kelly.

    Tom Browne reported on 7 news the other night the Cats approached Kelly’s management and asked if Kelly was willing to talk to the Dockers to which he replied no, he’d prefer to stay at the Cats. Looks like they’re trying to price West Coast out, Kelly is homesick after all but will only play for the Eagles.

    How much of this is now just the so-called 'optics'?

    Geelong need to be seen to be playing hardball and not rolling over. They know they have a captive buyer for Kelly and he is dead set on getting back to Perth one way or another and will inevitably make it back west. 

    So they need to be seen to take full advantage of the situation. If Kelly leaves in a year's time (along with Gary) Geelong is cactus and their midfield cupboard is bare, ex-Dangerwood.

    I despise Geelong, but I do feel they are within their rights to be seething about the Kelly trade.  I know there are extenuating family circumstances, but the fact that he is wanting to go back to WA for family reasons, but is only willing to go to one club is farcical. 

    IMHO, contracted players should be able to nominate the State that they would like to be traded to and the money they would like to receive- then it's over to the clubs to sort out the trade that's best for them.

    I don't know TRIGON, all 3 seemed to be doing pretty well at raising their arms and having a [censored] sook to the umpires during the EF.

    They need to get a reasonable trade this year because it's highly likely they'll get less next year when he's out of contract.

    "The wider football public was already up in arms when it emerged this week that Hawthorn's third-round choice – No.53 overall – might get the job done, but even that was being too generous...This is a player who was an All Australian nominee in 2016 and 2017 and is considered the AFL's best two-way runner, someone who routinely covers an extraordinary 18km in game".

    One has to wonder about the background negotiations that led to a 3rd round pick instead!

    That whole trade has a big whiff about it to me Lucifer. Either that ankle is a serious problem or Mcarthy is the worst negotiator in known history. We managed to do better than that in offloading Watts!

    It may also have to do with other things that play out today.  It may be part of something bigger that balances things out, for example Wingard to Hawks.  The trade Hawks make out might be overs, that circulate through a few clubs, to be overall ‘evens’ back to GWS.  Lets have a look at the close of this farcical day.  I think the AFL are trying to maximise the ‘excitement’ by having a super trade and having everyone running around like chooks at the last minute.  Smells like reality TV, to me.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
