I can see freo fans using this to argue unders on Jesse, like the dolts last year who thought it justified us paying unders for (or not recruiting) Lever

Good luck to them on that! We set the price, they come to the party or we tell them to bugger off.

Do we tell Gaff to bugger off as Jesse's cap space is unavailable for 1 more year too?

Churlish.

He finished 6th in votes per game out of players with more than 10 games.

In the Sun to day they have done a comparison with the leading key forwards and Jesse leads all but one stat.

We are talking about a 23 year old future champion of the game and to ask for less than the absolute maximum in return is a joke.

I trust the FD to get a good deal, but to those on here or in the media to suggest he is not absolute top trade price is another joke.

I have warmed to May and KK would be handy for us, so lets see how we go next week.

Mahoney and Co have shown themselves capable of getting deals done and our list is getting there.

But back to the main point. Those talking Jesse down because of a flaw in his game, are not giving his positives due recognition.

Jesse is a super talent and could rise to champion status if he puts in the effort and he has luck with injuries from now on so we need to extract maximum compo from the club he goes to, most likely the Dockers.

we'll get 2 first rounders for him. im confident of that.

Totally agree and he’s still contracted and the dockers want him desperately.

If they are willing to offer him 1.2 mil a year they will have a hard time explaining why they shouldn’t cough up #5 & #6 for him and both parties walk away with what they want

Melbourne has denied a move by Hogan to Fremantle.

Like your avatar, you speak in riddles and seemingly struggle with communicating a narrative. (And like your avatar sake are consistently negative).

On one hand you talk Hogan down and basically say he is overrated. On the other you say we'll get to first rounders. Do you think clubs are in the habit of paying top price for average players?

lol! im talking about what i think will happen. I'd take a straight swap for may and hogan but i don't think the club will. i'd actually be happy going to the draft with the picks we get too.

I can understand he may want to return to WA to be near his Mum, but he’s been here for several years now and surely most of his friends are Melbourne-based. Why would he want to go to a team that’s on the bottom rungs of the ladder (apart from $)? Most players who have retired and look back on their careers, when interviewed say that they would rather have been in a successful team than have earned more dollars. Also, maybe Melbourne can offer a few more $ as well?

If he stays it may explain why we asked the AFL for permission to trade next years 1st round pick, which goes some of the way towards potentially getting May and KK.

GREAT NEWS - thanks for sharing.

Our 2019 premiership winning team will look fantastic with Hogan in it.

In fairness he was 4th after rd 16 and got injured not long after that.

And yet you've said you'd be happy to do a straight swap with May who also didn't finish in the top 10, and before you say it's because he only played 17 games, Martin and Thompson both finished top 10 for them and both played the same or less games than May. Whereas all the Melbourne top 10 played more games than Jesse.

Hi Max and Max's mum. Congratulations

I'll have a grande cappuccino , extra shot, no sugar . Cheers ;)

Isnt that basically what was said from the start?  We are happy to keep him unless something is put in front of us that we absolutely couldnt refuse?

Narrative has morphed since into this going down like a regular trade, fears of getting low balled.. etc

Mother of all offers thanks Freo, or GTFO

Really? Seems odd they would do it today and not at BnF or earlier when it was brought up? This is what I mean by not trusting what anyone says!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
