Hannan in, no Viney for me taking a big risk if they do.

0% chance Viney doesn't play.

Even at 50% he is better than most on our list.

People forget, last year Hogan broke his collar bone, had a plate inserted, came back 3 weeks later and kicked, was it 5 or 6 goals. Message from the club was the plate makes the bone even stronger, just need the wound to settle down.

For what its worth - Viney on Inside Melbourne gave Hannan a huge endorsment and I think he is alock to be named this afternoon.

A risk of what? That he might be unavailable for finals? We are at the pointy end. If he feels good and he’s not going to play now, he may as well retire.

Maybe 3165 wants him cherry ripe for the granny Nash, even if we don't make it.

Both Lewis and Harmes played the following week with a plate inserted in their hand.

I had a quick chat to Harmsey after the Crows game, played very well and he said it didn't restrict him but very sore after the game.

So if you take these two cases into account and with Tyson having an extra week, he is a certainty.

All the feedback on Handgun is that he's in.

Are you just being contrarian to seek attention?  Or really haven't thought your way through it?

Viney is not returning from a soft tissue injury with the concomitant risk of breaking down in-game if returning too early.  He's returning from a stress / hot spot in his foot (toe actually) for which there is a long term implication should he continue to play in defiance of ongoing soreness but which will not be a factor for a four week finals campaign.

His core skill set is around the contest for which touch is not a factor.

So where's the risk?

Let me put it this way Viney like Jones is a one trick pony yes he hard at it but lacks football awareness no opposite side of the body yes I am not a fan and I hope he plays well but being out of the game for two months is different to training has been proven in the past.

As I said If he plays well I will be the first to say so but I would have taken Wines before him.

Yep, but as 26 was our next pick we were never getting Wines over Jack. We did, sadly, pick Jimmy over Wines.

Pretty effing good trick!

Honestly, Viney is a victim of short memories and the Amazing Progression of Oliver and Brayshaw.

Jack Viney is a beast and a leader and if he fit enough, he is in that team and winning that footy.

Much as I love Viney who's a contested brute am I the only one worried that he could upset the balance of our midfield which has looked absolutely spectacular the last 2 weeks?

I think he might play a similar role to jkh. Outside, defensive winger. The position tyson played in earlier this season.

Tyson struggled in that role. Even though jv is an inside beast he is better suited to it. He will still get his contested ball but is quicker than tyson and more naturally defensive.

A like for like swap with jkh in terms of role and doesn't upset the synergy tbat you rightly say has been terrific in recent weeks.

I also have similar reservations but seeing him interviewed he is busting to beat up some pussycats. So bring it on

Jack Viney leads the league in centre clearance average (yes he’s missed most the season and I’m cherry picking). You don’t leave number 2 (dusty) 3 (Cripps) 4 (Mitchell) or 5 (Fyfe) out of the centre square - Viney won’t be left out either.

Has anyone seen Jesse Hogan around the club or at the training sessions since we made the finals? I was there for about 1.5 hours on Saturday but didn't see him. Just interested that he has not been in the media or visible leading up to the finals. Would have thought he would be out encouraging the boys and having a profile and showing his support. Thoughts??

Viney scares the living **** out of Ablett who he has injured twice with fair challenges. He also plays well against Selwood too.

Haven't you heard? He's in Las Vegas on the end of season trip with the Freo boys.

Thank goodness. I was worried he would attend training and be photographed not smiling which would have worried us no end.

Fair point considering Lever, Baker and Maynard were there.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
