MELBOURNE has emerged as an unlikely suitor for lightly played Kangaroos ruckman Braydon Preuss.

Preuss played eight games last year and threatened Todd Goldstein's status as North Melbourne's No.1 big man, but failed to play a senior match in 2018 despite dominating at VFL level.

Very interesting.

I guess with the proposedย rule changes could we see teams play 2 genuine rucks or is he just a 2nd fiddle to the great Max

He wants to leave Norf because he doesnโ€™t want to play in the state league. Does this mean we intend on playing two genuine rucks?ย

he has been told he will be traded and to look aroundย

Brilliant. Gawn wonโ€™t be able to carry this huge work load every year and stay on the park.ย

This would be a good get, and Max has been a fan of his.ย

Agreed 100%.

We cant go in to next season with Max King and Filipovic as our backup ruckmen.ย ย

Not a very fair comparison IMO.ย

When Kruezer is fit he is a gun.

Been plaguedย by injury nearly his whole career.ย

Hmmmmm....interesting,ย  bye bye Filopovic ???

F**k Carlton

If the price is right I would absolutely take him. Heโ€™s no Gawn, but miles better than king and flipper.

Ditch king and flipper, play Hogan in defence, alternate preussย and Gawn in the ruck resting forward.

use additional spot on list for further midfield depth/outside run

Interesting issue: would any half decent ruckman want to play second fiddle most of the time.

Also interesting is that Max apparently thought that Flip was the next big thing too.

I think Gawn referred to him as his favoured opposition player during the preseason... after he dumped TMac in AFLX:

โ€œMy favourite opposition player against my least favourite teammate...โ€

Interesting. Is this for salary cap or other reason(s)?ย

Gawn coached Flip in juniors and liked him which is a natural reaction to coaching any kid with a bit of talent. But I think that's different to actually having come up against a guy at AFL level and seen his talent. Preussย has a lot of talent, but I'm not sure why he'd leave being stuck behind Goldy to be stuck behind Gawn.ย

We could play both but not if Weeds is playing like he is now. We certainly aren't in a position to promise games.

Seems weird to me. If he plays, one of TMac, Hogan or Weid doesn't...

there is absolutely no way Mitch King will be kept on the list after last week's performance.

This would be a very smart move by MFC and needed.

I believe both Preuss and Gawn can play in the same side most definitely! I think having both throws a spanner ? in the works for oppositions too match up on.ย

We canโ€™t drive big Max into the ground...

Preuss is a big man who can throw his weight around and soften the opposition with making an impact. He can ruck and play forward.ย

A Massive YES from me...ย

ย

Playing two rucks ??? Is this a new thing ?

Back to the futureย

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
