They have key understandings of what it takes to be successful. I think they also know at Hawthorn that they can't live of legacy like a lot of older clubs can, they have to be successful.

Hawthorn has violated us just as thoroughly over the years, only we haven't yet shown we can take it up to them.

I'd much rather play the Cats who we've come very close to besting twice this year than the Hawks who still have our measure.

No we have beaten them 2 times without actually getting the points, surely the next time it will be an official win

Things have changed since we lost to them by under a goal in round 1.  There was no Viney, Brayshaw, vandenBerg, or Tom McDonald for starters.  Hogan was the only tall forward.  Salem wasn't playing behind the ball where he's best suited and our defensive structures were a mess.  Weideman can fill Hogan's role for the structure that best suits us and we're now used to being sans Lever, although it's far from ideal.

Down at the Cattery we outplayed them (without Lever) despite their massive home ground advantage, but just didn't get the job done.  

I'd love another crack at them.  Hawkins is the key.

I think for us to become a contender, we can fear noone.

Respect your opposition for sure. But fear drains confidence and will lead to defeat.

3 out 4 of Richmond’s last 4 games have been victories by 3, 3 and 8. Everyone is gettable this year. 

So disappointing to see the filth win after the Dockers got so close.

I can only hope they go out in straight sets in the finals.

I’m not afraid of playing the cats at all. If those two after the siren kicks go our way MFC would be 2nd and Cats would be 12th!

they are overrated and their bottom 10 are average.

It's possible. Wet Toast in Perth is no one's idea of fun though we managed to knock them over. Question is, does the AFL deem it more important to get the filth into a prelim over the West Australian team ???

Have no fear at all of playing the feral cats, to have the opportunity to beat them in front of 80K would be sweet.

In other lose if West Coast lose today they will drop to fourth, not sure if we want his to happen.

Hawkins is the key. He's in crazy good form. He wins marking contests, that he shouldn't. But controll and stop the middle, then hawkins gets dirt ball.

Our feelings are mutual. The only way is if wet coke muck it up in Brisbane but I don’t think they will. So the filth and hawthorn can go out in strait sets and then go and thoroughly #$@& themselves.

You're right HB ... any margin of defeat means the Eagles drop to 4th. 

Which in turn would put us on their side of the finals draw if they in turn then lost to the Tigers in a qualifying final (the winner of 5th vs 8th plays the loser of 1st vs 4th) 

And if the Eagles do lose today that means that they can't be drawn against Richmond in a preliminary final.  Same deal for us although we could (in theory) meet Richmond in week 2 of the finals or the GF. 

However ... if our game is drawn today we'd finish 7th and then play GWS in the first week of the finals (7th @ 6th) and then be on the other side of the finals draw ?

I see better contenders in the bottom half of the 8 than the top.

I view Sydney, GWS (at their best), us and Geelong as equal to, if not better than, each of Hawthorn and Collingwood. West Coast and Richmond are gettable, albeit still the best two sides in it this year.

If they win their two qualifying finals and Collingwood and Hawthorn are hosting two of Syd/Mel/GWS/Geel, I see two highly competitive semi finals and at least one upset. 

Hawthorn struggled to put away Sydney without Franklin or Parker and which actually sucks at the SCG this year. Collingwood struggled to put away one of the least competitive sides in the comp and only got there due to said uncompetitive side committing horrendous skill errors at key times (e.g. Wilson's turnover, then that player in the forward half failing to kick it and getting caught).

It's a 22-game season. You qualify based on your 22-game result, not your last two. Geelong didn't make it because of their last two games, or their percentage. They made it because their 22-game result is better than 10 other sides.

Trying to remove "top v bottom" games at the end of the season would have robbed us of the Richmond v Dogs game yesterday, which was an absolute belter. Try telling Macrae, Hunter or Naughton that they had nothing to play for.

We've proven we can beat Geelong. I'm more worried about Hawthorn , Richmond, Sydney.
