You know teams can win from outside the top 4 now, don’t you?

Besides, you’re dreaming if you think we could finish top 2. West Coast play Brisbane in round 23. It was never going to happen.

I want to make the 8. That is first and foremost. The rest we can worry about later.

Exactly this, thank you. People are being delusional if they don't think 1st and 2nd are locked in at this point. [censored] top 4 aspirations; our season is still on a knife's edge until we get to 13 wins. That's my only consideration right now and I think people are getting way ahead of themselves worrying about top 2. Less teams in contention for the top 8 is a fantastic outcome when there's 11 still in the hunt with 2.5 rounds to go.

Ok, I'm just going to forget all about wanting certainties and slots and start hoping for whatever the most EPIC results would be.

Obviously that still means Melbourne beating Sydney, because it makes both our remaining games EPIC clashes in the top 4.

Brisbane still should do football a favour and beat Collingwood, so the Magpies can cr4p their pants for a couple more weeks.

And I think what this round really needs is a draw. Adelaide v Giants should do the trick. Keeps Adelaide mathematically in the race (as one of their wins was needed just to get over their gobshite percentage) and actually just close to nothing to help the Giants, since they already have a draw and their percentage is below every other team competing for top 4.

And for a laugh, right at this moment the Lions are ahead of the Magpies, and the Crows-Giants are clearly set on a wild ride to a draw. :D

Some of us remember winning 7/8 in 2000 and moving all the way up to 3rd as Geelong and the Kangas fell below us and that amazing feeling of everything going right at the right time. That's why I always have my eyes firmly planted on a highest ladder position possible and am gunning for 3 wins. More so in this case, because we wouldn't have to rely on any other result once Port beat WCE. 2nd was ours with 3 wins. I don't work for MFC so getting ahead of myself has no repercussions.

Seriously, how can people be so clueless.

WC and Brisbane were irrelevant if WC lost today, a WC loss meant if we win our last three games we would have finished second. It really isn’t complicated!

And you do realise that a team that finishes 2nd is a better chance than one from outside the top 4 (or even a team that finishes third) - can you grasp that or do you also need it explained to you?

Your opponents in this matter point out that a team that finishes 9th has zero chance.

What are the chances we win all 3? A lot lower than us dropping 1 or 2 of the next 3, that’s what.

So I’ll take the safe option of making the 8, than the wet dream of finishing 2nd.

You can’t win anything if you don’t make finals.

I think that playing our best football, we can easily win all 3.

Clueless? How about 'realists'? Hell of a lot more concerned about results going our way to ensure we make the top 8, rather than some farfetched wet dream of finishing top 2, which assumes such laughable outcomes as us winning all 3 final matches (after not beating a single team in the top 8 all season) and West Coast (2nd on the ladder) losing to Brisbane.

The dream of top 2 was [censored] down the drain when we blew 3 winnable games by under a goal. Our focus should be on finals and that means results which hurt all the teams beneath us.

Yeah, really far fetched beating an average Sydney, WCE missing 2 or 3 best players and GWS at home.

Unbelievable how little it takes for so many to be satisfied....

by you theory, we are no chance in the finals, as we can’t beat top 8 teams.

Play with yourself at the prospect of making the 8 mate, I am only interested in one result

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
