It's that great paradox. Club's get criticised for not beating teams above them on the ladder, yet the higher the ladder they climb, the harder it gets. Conversely, by definition, the worst team in the competition only ever beats teams above it.

I'm always nervous about any game, but this should be our best chance to beat the Swans in years. Demons by 48.

I think out of the 5 who have been brought in, Hunt makes the most sense out of all of them.

Yeah I get the feeling that they'll be looking to solidify a team heading into finals and the FD would be keen to see if they can get game time into Hunt to be a part of that and this is the perfect opportunity. We need the desperate Jayden back who plays with intensity and provides pressure wherever he's positioned.

According to Goody, who is currently on SEN, Hunt is a good chance of playing this weekend.

After hearing Goody on SEN, i would like confidently say that Hunt will be playing against the swans.

I salivate at the thought of an in form Hunt and Hibberd launching off half back.

Unfortunately for Bernie he may go out of the team this week.

Is it wrong that I believe that you are, right now, salivating at your computer?  If anyone would do that it would be you, trac.

What did he say about Gawn?

Nothing new. Had some aches and pains after Sunday’s game, will train Saturday and hopefully play Sunday.

What Max did say which concerned me a little bit is that these aches and pains were new to him as he doesn't usually get sore.

I just hope there is nothing more seriously lingering waiting to twang/snap/tear/break

The one thing I really like about the next three games is that no one thinks we are a shoe in for any of them.

We don't think that ..... do we ???

Why wouldn't you like that? We've only dropped 1 game all year that was a gimme, yet dropped plenty of games such as whats ahead in our last 3 weeks.

Perhaps ANB out?  He's clocked up a power of kms- given SCG is smaller he could freshen for WC.

And JKH, it doesn't seem right to run him up to finals.

3 changes, probably too many.

I like Hunt coming in. Would get him to play lock down role and not try to run and carry. Leave Salem to focus on that.

Dickson and Dal Santo on Fox claiming Oscar has to be the match up for Franklin due to a “lack of other options”. Then went on to speak about the need to cut down Buddy’s leading space and nullify his athleticism.

Not a single, solitary mention of Frost.

Can the bar for footy analysis actually get any lower?

Frosty will kill Franklin!

Goodwin SEN interview definitely sounded like Hunt in for Joel Smith, and Max to play.

I love Bernie but he looked terrible last week, I'd like Fritsch to play back and Kent (or maybe Hannan) for Bernie.

SEN noted Buddy is 14-0 against MFC!

He is no lock down defender. If he comes in his job will be to run and carry and use his pace to exploit their lack of pace.

Its interesting, in 2016 he was a huge weapon for us and his run was a big part of our strategy but seemed to get worked out early this year. His poor kicking didn't help. But obviously being out of the side has meant other players like Salem have assumed greater importance and it has only been hibberd and more recently Frost who have really run and carried the ball from defence.  If he comes back in he is unlikely to be such a critical cog for us and therefore may not get the same focus from opposition coaches and so might get a bit of freedom and space.

Its more about beating teams in the 8 who you are likely to meet in finals. We need to improve our record starting this Sunday....

He's never lost to Melbourne.

My concern for this game is Sydney's defensive pressure will lock us in like Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorn did.

If Gawn doesnt get up for the game we would be crazy to make the change tonight in the lne ups.  Sydney will do most of their planning around him and Oliver.  Late change 2pm sunday and bring Peedo in if needed

Try not to run & carry????

That is literally his best asset.. apart from slotting torps from 70 out after the siren.

I really want hunt in to find form before finals, he adds elite speed. With him and frosty in the back half they could easily burn their direct opponent for some easy exits.

Sorry if it’s been mentioned already. Did Frost play on Buddy last year or was it OMac? I can’t remember.

Frost played on Buddy (4g 3b). OMac on Rohan.  This was the Friday night game that Bugg hit Mills. Swans lost their first 6 games and this was their 9th win.

1st qtr Swans had 9 shots on goal for 1g 8b. We started with 4 straight.

That is where the coach should have a plan ... and of course Buddy is the perfect forward for our zoned defence.

A big game in more way than one on Sunday.

Thanks, I simply couldn’t remember that particular matchup. I think we are better prepared to limit their scoring chances this time around. No Mitch White running around, nothing against the guy but he really struggled that night.

It was freezing that night and I quickly erased that game.

It is like we are playing a one man band on Sunday. Keep Kennedy and Parker quiet and we are half way home.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
