Has there been any updates timeline for Levers return? I noted when a few others have gone down with ACLs in recent weeks they have had their 2019 written off. Is Jake likely to have enough rehabilitation time to be available early next season?

    There were a few 6-8 month experiments a couple of years back and they didn't end well.

    Would be interested to hear but I think the wisdom is now a full 12 months.

    sounds like it depends on the player too.

    NicNat took close to 18 months to recover, not sure of if he had complications, but they indicated that heavier players take longer than midfielders...

    Jake himself said not long after he did it that he'd be out for 12 months. So we should all assume that's the minimum, any less and it's fantastic.

    I thought it was normally a 9 month or so recovery period, then another 2-3 months of conditioning to get match fit. Brodie Smith from the Crows did his in the first week of finals and has no played 2 reserves games, so basically an 11 month recovery to be right for AFL, that'd mean Jake would be back very early in the season, maybe somewhere around round 4?

    I can recall him mentioning something about doing something about his spaghetti arms (or something alike) and returning with some more muscle up top which I think will be a benefit to him.

    We have no idea and this is all speculation at best. He will return when he is fully fit and confident and the doctors have given him the all clear.

    He did. He said it's a 12 month injury normally but he hopes to be fit by round 1. We wont know until next year how he's tracking unfortunately

    Interesting to see if Goldsack plays this year again. Heard he was a big chance to play.

    10 months is the time frame if everything goes right Brodie Smith went down in the first final last year and is back playing in the SANFL

    He can take as long as he likes. The disturbing trend this season has been the repeat ACL injuries. Scharenberg is now in for his 3rd ACL and I doubt there is any hamstring tendon left to use as a graft. Nic Nat for a 2nd time and all to simple leg movements not unlike Lever. I am surprised there hasn't been a greater deveopment with the carbon fibre grafts given there have been so many repeat ACL injuries

    12 months from operation.

    Apparently there has been alot of money spent on research in soccer about the cause and prevention of these types of injuries, and I've read they are starting to implement "preventative exercises" to strengthen appropriate parts and reduce differences between legs which can exacerbate risk (apparently differences in single leg hop distance, amongst other things, can increase susceptibility). Hopefully these strategies are being implemented in AFL too, both preventative and as part of recovery.

    I wonder if they have sent him to the US like they did with Petracca.  I remember seeing some of the footage when Trac was over there, and thought that they were really getting the best possible rehab in place for him (not that I would know the difference between good rehab and bad rehab for this sort of thing!).

    Slightly off topic, but watching Scharenberg's knee just buckle on him was quite heartbreaking to be honest.  When they slow the replay down, you can see through his skin how his knee just exploded on him.  I still hate Collingwood, but it's never a nice thing to see a young player, any player, cut down by injury.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder.       What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
