At first I thought what drugs are you on but on reflection I see where you are coming from.

Bb it may appear that im drawing a long bow but hear me out.

1. Viney's toe didn't flare up until after Pert's appointment was announced.

2. He has brought Collingwoods injury woes here with him.

3. The fish rots from the head.

4. Stop the boats.

5. It's the vibe, its Marbo.

I hope this clears things up.

Most certainly....

Personally I'm blaming the #4 bloke anyway.

If Jack’s out for an extended period ie 4+ weeks, it opens the door for Aaron to crash his way back into the midfield, and Salem to get another extended run.

Love Vandenbergs appetite for the game as the intensity lifts, he’s my wildcard for the run into and finals. ..

Amazing maturity in the depth of the players revealed by this ( and demonland)

Co captain and toughest player out of the side and virtually no one slashing wrists

mostly working through the options with a positive view and very little MFCSS

great to read  and we do have options

keep him out for an extra week just to be sure to be sure !

Go Dees

Here's  a bit more info from the AFL site:

"It's a funny one. He was a little bit sore (on Friday), so we had a scan and there were some early signs of stress on that toe and really we didn't want to push him," Goodwin told reporters.

"We need to get that right. We don't want to get to a stage where he can't play.

But he couldn't play yesterday.

Salem is another player who has showed he can go on ball and win clearances if needed. Great as Jack is we are well stocked for inside mids, it'll hurt us to some extent but every team is dealing with injuries. Kennedy did his back for Sydney, Nic Nat knee at West Coast, Collingwood Treloar etc...

Oliver:

"Melbourne star Clayton Oliver says he and Angus Brayshaw can help fill some of the leadership void left by Jack Viney...[Angus and I] try just get the boys going and say what we need to say.”

Shows how much our youth is maturing to be ready and willing to take on the extra responsibility.

We will miss JV no end but we are in a better position to cover him this year than last.  We have Gus in and everyone has another year of development behind them.  Hopefully, Jack will be back soon.

interesting that goodwin says the injury is 'different' to last year / this year's foot injury

not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing

That girl on Gameday said while it’s not the same injury, it’s a hot spot related to the previous injury (stress and pressure moves elsewhere on the foot), may be a career problem and one they’ll need to manage.

I'm not thinking this is anything good ...either way.

He could play me thinks but if he did play there would be the possibility of it developing into worse things

Vanders is a September Wildcard along with Jayden Hunt.

Couple of weeks off and back for Adelaide and it will settle down.

So, Win, you are privy to the exact details of the injury and the scan results?

Is it just me or is anyone not as stressed about this than the Lever loss?

I think we have the midfield depth to cover him well enough, especially as we did so earlier in the season.  Covering a potential AA key position player is harder to do.

For me, Lever > Viney.

Yep. Sounds likely that Viney is probably going to spend the balance of his career managing this foot.

The reassuring thing is he’s the sort who will leave no stone unturned in working out the best way to do that. Hopefully the issues reduce over time.

I think the biggest positive also is this time Viney self reported it to the club early, in the past he would have been pushing to play on. He now understands the seriousness of it and put the club first, instead of himself. A big win in change of mindset IMO.

We have been going gangbusters against the top 8 sides and finals are a doddle so yeah, no biggie with Lever gone......

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
