Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Don't think anyone at Casey will be much fresher than the Darwin boys after that slog on the weekend.

Bernie should come in, probably for Lewis or Smith.

I don't know.  They did a lot of crashing and bashing but no running.

I didnt watch the VFL game on the weekend, but would Bake be under serious consideration just to give us that extra speed and speed on the outside on the wider MCG?

Do we bring him for Smith or play Vince ehos hsd the week off and will be fresh?

I’m leaning towards Vince but Baker is definitely tempting against a young Dogs side with the width of the ground to exploit. I’d be happy with either but would go with Vince personally.

300 tackles

There are tackles and tackles.  It would be interesting to ask someone like Misso about the relative impact of the different sorts of games.  I know I was told that game like Casey's on Saturday are one's where you don't tend to get injuries.

i thought Lewis was alright, possibly getting close to be dropped though. But I can't figure out why so many people are up in arms over that elbow. There was very, very little in that and it wouldn't have been an issue if old mate didn't go down like a bag of [censored]. Nothing wrong with a bit of niggle, the problem is players diving on the ground like a soccer player for free kicks. Sad stuff.

What about JKH? In hot form in the VFL and would surely add a bit of pace and skill on the outside?

Has his form been that good in the VFL?

I watched the second half last week and was excellent i thought. Skills in the conditions were top shelf and his 3 golas were match winning. looks fit and strong

i wouldn't mind seeing him get a crack

Certainly by me it is underrated in his case.

lex Neal-Bullen 9 5 14 3 0 1 1 4 1 2 68

Also seems to be underrated by the AFL points grading system as well, placing him as one of our worst players for the game.

The definition of pressure acts, And the points awarded for each act:

"Points are awarded for corralling (1.2), chasing (1.5), closing (2.75) and physical pressure (3.75)"

I'm not saying he is a superstar, but I do think the areas we struggle with as a team including running hard both ways and chasing our opponents defensively. ANB gives us both of those things.  I know he lacks in other areas.  But while we struggle for 2 way running, it seems unlikely we'd drop a bloke who runs further and harder than anyone else, and applies a constant stream of defensive pressure to his opponents. I definitely don't think we'll drop him for a player who only runs forwards, like Kent.

Due to his defensive pressure and tackling, I think AVB is a player who could push for ANBs role (if he gets his tank up).

It's a short selection night coming up.

If Smith is fit, then it's no change for me, because he adds flexibility and pace to our line up. Loved the way he went forward and even though he wasn't able to get on the end of anything, he's a presence in air and on the ground. That's the flexibility we need - but sadly in these days where clubs train up players for one of three areas - the mid-game switch rarely happens.

If Smith is still too sore (note he was moved off Walters when he pulled up sore when he got away over the back), then there are only two players to consider - Bernie and Wags. And if either comes back you have to also consider whether the loss of pace means Jordy has a rest up for the Cats game - which is our real test anyway.

The good news is that AVB is only about two weeks away. I doubt we will risk him for the Cats game, but I reckon the week after we regain our tackling bull. And yes he will turn it over ... but have a look at what he brings. And if you don't know, go down to training and walk on the ground near to where he is and ask yourself would you want him tackling you?

Surely avb would have to play more than 3 vfl games before a call up after so long off? It is worth noting that he only played 3 qs on sat.

The bloke Lewis hit is a noted diver/stager. It looked like Lewis hit his upper shoulder but he clutched at his face. This staging BS is  becoming more prevalent in our game. Mathieson & Christensen from the Lions, Joel Selwood, Lindsay Thomas and Rance come readily to mind.

Remember when poor old Oliver endured a media lashing due to his "staging" then we had poor old Hogan.

Has this been in the media? WHERE IS THE CONFECTED OUTRAGE

I’d love to see JKH get some reward for effort, but who to drop is harder.

I love Spargo, but I feel JKH might get more if it and do more damage.

Also might be less fumbly than ANB has been of late.

If J. Smith goes out , Pederson could be valuable as a swingman , or do we have a look at Keilty or Baker?

For a small bloke, his pace is actually pretty ordinary. Wouldn't say his got that much skill to offer either, DD. Besides his first handful of senior games, he hasn't looked like it since.

It's a no from me.

Do we still have to pay his match payments ( Superannuation)

Are we talking about the elbow that was so bad he wasn't even cited for it by the match review panel?  Going by your punishments, Hogan should have been given the electric chair for his hit on Sam Rowe last year.

I am actually a bit of JKH fan but a speedy outsider he is not.

Yes, he was fined for something he did to Lachie Neale, not Michael Walters.  Same for Jones.  Neale must have done something to get under their skin during the game.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
