Mate he just can’t catch a break.

Keep plugging away Dec.

Little bit of silver lining was it was only very minor, but given the conditions and the fact the Key Talls were never going to be super important (although I thought Pedo was very good ) they decided to just wrap him up and put him in the showers early like they did with McKenna. He'll be all good for next week.

No 1 on the VFL ladder by a mile with Richmond. This must say something good about our system and coaching. Usually the top AFL side has a top VFL side who Richmond does, but why is our AFL side a lot weaker?

Probably not in the best today but Baker is easily our most exciting talent at Casey... he’s going to be a fan favourite sooner than later.

Pedersen playing well down back (as much as conditions allow)

Perhaps he'll find a spot there at senior level?

I wouldn't think so. He trains with the forwards!

Good to see Vanders powering through the packs. Machaya showed some super clean ball handling skills in the wet and also impressed with Lockhart's game.

Weather and ground like this, the game could almost have been called off.

No benefit and potentially dangerous.

Deanox, you're kidding right?

I suspect you've been spoilt by under cover stadiums and grounds with great draining. And it is a winter sport.

Is it weaker, or is it just less experienced and still learning a game plan?

Their senior coach had been with them for 8 seasons and 180+ games, given them time to learn a system and tweak and improve.  They've played finals 4 times in the last 5 season's, meaning they've been well analysed by opposition during that time and have had to keep evolving.

On the other hand we are 1.5 years into Goodwin's tenure and the time that we have been worth analysing by the opposition. Before that we had 3years of rebuilding from the foundations. Dont confuse Melbourne in 2013 with any other club in terms of development. When Goodwin took over we were only just AFL standard.

Tyson had a Tyson game. Could not ask more of his application and he kept racking it up but he turns back into traffic, handballs at peoples feet and tackles with his arms not his body. I may have gone too early on Baker last two weeks looked a lot better on a wing uses his pace well to creat an option. Great to see Vanders back he is a serious unit.

I've really liked the game of no.4 Lockhart. Anyone know his story?

Has rebounded really well from defense with pretty nice disposal considering the conditions. Attacks every contest.

He came from Tasmania where he played in a few premierships and won 1 B&F in the state league before coming across to Casey this year to get more exposure to AFL talent.

He is a gun, usually an inside mid with superb skills and touch but has been moved to the backline with the AFL listed boys taking the midfield spots but is still playing really well.

Wouldnt be surprised to see him rookie drafted. Don’t think it will be Melbourne as his primary skill set is an inside player and we have plenty of those.

In my day we would go for a spot of seal spearing under the tundra and then warm up with a bit of nude langloffing before we took the oval. Kids these days.

Best. Tyson  C.Wagner Lockhart Pedersen JKH Vandenburg

Everyone sees the game differently I suppose.

25 possessions and 3 out of 5 goals and JKH isnot in your best.

He was BOG for me.

Next time you watch Casey make a mental note how many times Tyson stuffs up. I think 20 of his handballs missed the target. Long way from paying for Dees again.

Just an update on Keilty, his head was fine he actually got pulled out with symptoms of hypothermia. At half time he took off all his wet gear but went blue and couldn’t stop shaking so they put him in the shower and wrapped him up, goes to show what horrible conditions it was to play in today.

He wasn't the only one. Was chatting to one of the north trainers, they had one or two who had the same issue, symptoms of hypothermia. Was a tough day down at Casey for involved.

Tough conditions to appraise any of the skills other than ability to work hard.
Great conditions to get some game fitness into Kenty, Mckenna and VandenBerg. I thought VandenBerg was the best at it, especially into the last Quarter. He appeared to really want it. Kent is building and great to see Mckenna stay fit.
I thought Kennedy-Harris did well, gee someone needed to be able to kick the goals. The go in AFL didn't help Petty. Well off it though tough for talls in the conditions. Loved Hannans involvement, taking them on and side stepping. Harley Balic seems to be getting fit, playing the outside of packs well. Weids so so, hope he gets better conditions next week and can work on consistency.

Hope he's ok now mate...feel for him.

Nothing worse than on a day like today playing in defence and the balls stuck up the other end for most of the game, the rains poring down and the winds cutting through.

At least when we played on the old muddy grounds a good layer of mud would insulate you a bit.

Some conflicting reports on his game.

I know you love him though so I can't be surprised with your view.

Tyson was fine in absolutely awful conditions

He worked hard offensively and defensively and gave second efforts

Really, that whole mid group - Tyson, Bugg, AVB (in two and a half quarters), JKH (who also got forward), and Baker - was super strong

Very impressed with Filipovic’s second efforts too, even if Preuss was the dominant ruckman on the ground

AVB will be back in the seniors sooner rather than later if he can maintain that kinda form...you’d never believe he’s missed two years of football

Serious question. Did it only rain in the Cranbourne area today?  Scores of other VFL games indicate yes.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
