Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Resting Gawn disrespects freo and also under appreciates Max's apparent fitness. We can't afford to lose this in some faint hope it'll be ok and we need him the next week. Lose this without max and a fit max against dogs is immaterial

play max and rest him on the ground or bench. CHF, FF, back - wherever he can use his go go gadget arms to take marks which some of his team mates seem incapable of doing which is bizarre as marking should be a core funky focus for a footballer

With no racist intent implied, do DL'ers feel that Jeffy may lift in front of, what I would think, would be a predominantly indigenous crowd?

Having said that, I seem to remember JKH having a 'mare last year or 2016.

With no left-wing targeting intended, your assessment is fundamentally wrong on a number of levels. The 'indigenous' (including a number of my family-members up North) don't just support indigenous players from any old club. They support their teams, like any supporters, and then perhaps give extra backing to indigenous players within those teams. The MFC is not well supported in Darwin, and the indigenous are also discriminated against in most economic areas - hence not also predominating the attendance at a costly AFL match.

I don't think it's a Left or Right thing (I might be wrong), it's a common way of thjnking and framing even if you've had training for cultural propriety. (No offence to OP intended at all). Just saying

Dec played on Cox a couple of years ago and dominated him (but that was before Cox was good) He definitely has been able to play well on the taller players.

Im trying to stay out of all the talks of him being a possible inclusion because we think it’s a real possibility and I’m just hoping he gets the gig. My excitement is already building, I’m trying to keep a lid on it so I don’t get disappointed if they don’t play him but he really deserves a shot and I think is the clubs best choice to fill the Lever void right now.

Has he been in and out of the team recently with illness?

Jetta  Omac   Smith

Hibb   Frost  Vince

Harmes Oliver Fritch

Hannan Hogan  ANB

Melk   TMac  Kent/Garlett

Gawn   Jones  Viney

Spargo, Trac, Salem, Brayshaw

Weid - 3 tall forwards isn't holding up. Let Tom and Hoges be a genuine 1-2 punch. We had Tom, Hogan, Weid, Fritch, Hannan and Melksham all shoved in to the same forward line, they are all aerialists needed someone at their feet, Spargo in

Petty - Not ready, needs another 12 months+ at VFL to develop before we judge him. Frost is the only other senior option we have... We keep trying to fill Lever with inexperienced players like Smith and Petty and now people suggest keilty but maybe it is worth considering Oscar? I know long term they want him as the one on one defender with Lever floating but maybe Frost can do that this year and free up oscar to play the Lever role.

Lewis - we need one of the senior heads in the side, he either survives or Vince returns, simple as that. Even if we wanted to drop both, with Hunt injured then we have no other option. Maybe Wagner but I don't expect that to go down to well

Tyson - Good inside mid, not good enough to take the spot of viney, jones brayshaw or oliver (or salem for that matter) so he doesnt play. Fritch was great on the wing but has struggled since tyson took his role. Tyson isnt skilled enough to do it. Fritch goes back to the wing and Kent/Garlett in. Kent only had the 1 run after injury but Garlett hasnt exactly earned it... Lose, lose pick for Goody but we need to do something different

Smith, Trac, ANB & Hannan lucky, no better options available. Although Bugg could push for one of the pressure forward spots...

For what it's worth... I don't really expect this to happen but it's what I'd do, change the structures they have failed 3 weeks in a row, and they don't hold up on the G.

Outs: Petty, Tyson, Hannan and Weideman

Ins: Frost, Stretch, Garlett and Spago

Petty is simply not ready, Frost has to come in to prove himself for what could be the last time. His chance and time should be now.

We need smalls and pace in the forward line - Garlett & Spago. Don't be fooled by Garletts lack of interest playing 2s, we KNOW the quality of player he is and we desperately need that right now.

Fritsch and Stretch on the wings.

Another option could be to play T Mac back. He has been a revolution up forward but we are desperately needing experience and leadership down back. We are ranked 3rd last for how easily goals are conceded when opponents go forward. We may need to bite the bullet, send him back, play Hogan deep forward with Weidemen to then stay forward.

It's really, really simple. Would also consider dumping ANB for Spargo.

Yep Spargo works his arse off and agree totally on your other 3 ins

Colleagues who are not dees supporters at work are  mystified at the Frost exclusion

It appears to be that the selections are either dumb or stubborn  I hope it's not both as that is the worst possible case.

T-Mac easily in our top 5 players for the season and averaging 3.2 goals a game vs Hogan 2.4.  I'm wondering with his ability to roam, play a role through the mid field and take the odd contested mark, why not move Hogan to CHB?  Might freshen him up and get him back to hitting in hard at the marking contests again also.  And he seems to prefer playing from behind like a defender.  T-Mac remains at FF crashing packs and a very accurate kick.

Problem is, who fills the CHF role?  Weids, Bull and Pedders so far not up to holding down a key position.

Yes, valid suggestion. Could be worth a try to see if Hogan can fill that role. I was suggesting TMac as the goal from here should be get together enough wins to scrape into finals

Wow suggestions for Hogan to move back. I really don't think we're that desperate yet. I thought Hogan flew for the ball well on the weekend. Kicking to him was very average. Whats this Rusy Nails mentions about Hogan prefering to play behind like a defender? I thought the problem highlighted was that he was playing too much in front watching the ball go overhead and crumbing instead of flying for it...... So confused by some posts on here.

Hogan worked his way into the game in the last half/quarter on the weekend. The opposition know to load extra players behind the ball and always have two flying against him when he goes for contested marks. This is why he needs to continue presenting up the ground and making oppositions defense switch or change there structures meaning he can drift back forward for clearer space to lead into. Jesse will be fine if we can get our forward structure right.

Our form turned around at the start of the season when Spargo came into the side. Goodwin and Co just have to get the balance of this side right soon, otherwise we are looking at another wasted season.

In: Spargo, Garlett, Frost

Out: Weid, Petty, Tyson

B:       Jetta            O Mac         Hibberd

HB:    Salem          Frost           Lewis

C :     Fritsch         Viney            Brayshaw

HF:    Petracca      Hogan          Spargo

F:      Melksham     TMac           Garlett

R:      Gawn            Oliver            Jones

Int:   ANB    Harmes      J Smith     Hannan

We need Spargo, Garlett, Melksham and ANB to continuously harass and tackle in the forward half. We need only one of Hogan, TMac & Hannan flying and bringing the ball to ground, the rest need to be ready for the crumb or lock it in.

Most of all we need the whole side to get the work-rate back to where it was when we smashed sides, as this was the reason behind those wins.

That looks a much better and balanced side/spine. Hannan on thin ice also.

Every single poster here is 100% right.  Everyone is calling for  team balance.

This includes a small crumber or two (Kent, Garlett, Spargo?) and a hard running mid to help with the spread from stoppages (Stretch?).

Nobody claims these players themselves are the answer or saviors , but that they will help get the balance right and give us what weve been lacking the last few weeks.

So if the match committee can not see the obvious this Thursday night, that every supporter can see, and we end up losing to Freo....    it might be pitchfork time.

It's not disrespect.

It's smarter to play for the advantage of having the extra players for run and for agility,,, and better ball handling in the greasy conditions.

Nothing to do with Max's fitness, but for a better result the following week with fresher players.

We should be able to win in Darwin, and be better without Max in those conditions.   We go in as a shorter side than normal, to suit.

We shouldn't go into this game with marks as a benchmark,,,, we should go into it with Run, Agility, and control of the ball as the benchmark.

We showed the past couple of weeks that we are down on our run.  As well as pace.  And its cost us.

Genuine question: why?

How is he impacting games at the moment?

When was the last time he played well in a game we lost or didn't win by a massive margin?

I don’t rate him  either but he won’t get dropped

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
