Stand by my Sunday night calls.  Pace will be needed this week and beyond. Baker might be ready in a few weeks. Don’t through him to the wolves just yet like we did to Petty.  Tempted to bring in Jeffy too and is 50/50 call between Spargo youthful energy and Jeffys wizard like skills

Keilty has to get a game, unlike Petty he is strong and won't get pushed around. Like our forward line we shouldn't have 3 talls. J.Smith won't have anyone to play on as the 3rd tall.

Baker and Petty are 2 different players, don't have to be that strong to play on the wing while Petty has to hit the gym if he wants to be a key defender.

The solution is to move TMac back to CHB  and leave Hogan as the key forward. Not saying that this is the future, but its the best current scenario. Lets try to pinch a spot in the finals and reload next year. Frost, Keilty, Smith are not the answer. Also need our small forwards, whoever they are, to pressure pressure pressure. As Viney said, just get back to doing the basics, it is an easy fix.

T-Mac easily in our top 5 players for the season and averaging 3.2 goals a game vs Hogan 2.4.  I'm wondering with his ability to roam, play a role through the mid field and take the odd contested mark, why not move Hogan to CHB?  Might freshen him up and get him back to hitting in hard at the marking contests again also.  And he seems to prefer playing from behind like a defender.  T-Mac remains at FF crashing packs and a very accurate kick.

Problem is, who fills the CHF role?  Weids, Bull and Pedders so far not up to holding down a key position.

Viney said it, get back to basics and we certainly need to this week. We can't afford to press to high or have a lack of two way runners and need to go in with a genuine tagger.

Not sure on the dimensions of the Darwin ground but if its wide, Ross Lyon as will the Dogs at the G next week, will try and expose us with runners and quick ball use on transition and running forward with numbers. Freo will use Langdon, Neale, Wilson, Hill, Walters and Brad Hill could also be back in and Bennell got a fair amount of it on the weekend but note sure he will come in this week.

Night footy with dewy conditions so at least one or two crumbers must come in. A run with player either Vince or Bugg comes in don't care about anything other than curbing Neale and freeing Viney up from the start. Bugg could also be considered to come in as a defensive forward to play on Hill. And obviously we need some run and spread

Unfortunately Petty wasn't helped with the lack of defensive pressure from the midfield and I suspect his confidence will be shot also with injuries and form I don't see Freo changing much up forward so Kersten, Apeness and Cox will be the 3 talls with Apeness giving Darcy or Jones a chop out. Either Frost or Tmac goes in when Apeness is in.

Hoges or Tmac must play deep and keep contest. Don't  mind them when needed through the middle/higher up the ground. When one of these goes up the ground Trac must be in the forward 50 around CHF.

Jetta     Omac   Frost/Keilty

Hibberd Smith  Salem

Stretch  Oliver Fritsch

Melk      Tmac   Harmes

Spargo  Hoges  Trac

Gawn Viney Brayshaw

I/C. ANB, Vince, Jones, Bugg/Garlett

In. Frost/Keilty, Vince, Stretch, Spargo & Bugg/Garlett (decision time on these boys and if they decide to drop Hannan one of these comes in)

Out. Weid, Tyson, Hannan, Petty, Lewis (Vince is coming in to do a job and dewy conditions wont help Lewis)

Not sure I follow your thinking on team selection this week Werribee. Last week you said Vince and Lewis cannot play in the same team ever again. Yet you are bringing Vince back in this week to play with Lewis. Last week you said that Petty must play. This week you’ve kicked him out and said Keilty must play. You no longer have a relief ruckman, as you’ve dropped Weideman, and you’ve dropped J Smith, who I think shows good promise. And I think we have enough mids with poor disposal without adding Baker to that list.

Is anyone else uncomfortable with throwing form out the window and picking Garlett?

Yep me that's why Im undecided between Garlett and Bugg. I dont mind the idea of Bugg negating Hill and Spargo being our crumber

I’d like to see both Garlett and Spargo in the team this week. Spargo is very good at reading ball of packs and Garlett has enough runs on the board. Yeah, Jeffy’s form isn’t screaming of a recall but just bite the bullet I say. Humid conditions and picking both might work.

No, has more than enough runs on the board.

I understand where your going. I'm still not convinced that it works but Vince is in form and Lewis stays. I considered dropping Lewis but I chose Tyson instead. We have no one else in the rerserves in form.

I was wrong about Petty he played before his time. Honestly I'd never seen him play, he was injured when they played at Werribee and I was only going off reports he far too skinny. I've seen enough of Keilty to be more confident that he can cope with the pace of the game and not be pushed off the ball. I don't expect him to star he's not a player that gets lots of ball but I expect him to do his job Mr.Dependable I call him.

McDonald is a better relief ruckman than Weideman that's where he should play I remember him getting us back in the game against Carlton a few years back after Gawn got destroyed by Kruezer. We can't play 3 talls in the forward line.

I don't think J.Smith is a good decision maker I think he'll make it but not yet. I don't think we can play 3 talls back he'll have no one to play on.

I thought Baker's use of the ball was pretty effective it's not fancy but it does the job. BOG against Essendon for mine.

We have so much depth forward but none down back. Need to balance that up.  But can't afford to have Vince and Lewis in the same back line.

Play Bernie half forward/middle, I think we need Fritsch to play back in the intercept role, as good as he is forward. His kicking allows Salem to play midfield.

B: Jetta, O Mac, Hibberd
HB: Lewis, Frost/Keilty, Fritsch
? Salem, Jones, Brayshaw
HF: Petracca, Hogan, Vince
F: Garlett, T Mac, Melksham
R: Gawn, Viney, Oliver
I: Spargo (fwd) Harmes (mid), ANB (mid/fwd), J. Smith (back)

In: Frost/Keilty, Spargo, Garlett, Vince
Out: Weid, Petty, Tyson, Hannan

Only 4 goals between them there might be a change there especially in Darwin.

I'd be happy for Hibberd to take Kersten and just run off him don't rate Kersten at all.

I don't rate Apeness either Keilty can go to him.

I don't know anything about Cox O.Mac can go to him.

Just noticed that Apeness played in the ruck so they will probably only go with Cox and Kersten.

That was due to Ssndi pulling out late and Nyhuis came in. Darcy or Jones will come in for Sandi and either Kersten or Nyhuis will make way. Apeness is to tall for Keilty

5cms isn't a big difference, Keilty will be able to handle him.

Dec played on Cox a couple of years ago and dominated him (but that was before Cox was good) He definitely has been able to play well on the taller players.

Im trying to stay out of all the talks of him being a possible inclusion because we think it’s a real possibility and I’m just hoping he gets the gig. My excitement is already building, I’m trying to keep a lid on it so I don’t get disappointed if they don’t play him but he really deserves a shot and I think is the clubs best choice to fill the Lever void right now.

Agreed. But they may want to give Petty a couple of games to settle. Its the only thing standing in his way I think. But  imo Petty really didnt look ready,  so I think we need to pull the trigger and gibe him a go.

We don't have a couple of games to give him. Another poor performance could cost us a game.

I’d be inclined to stick with Petty. Send the message: “we know that wasn’t indicative and you are better than that. Have another shot.” I think that would help his confidence.

That and Frost terrifies me.

I sort of agree Nash.  but I guess in this delicate situation only those inside would know the best Re his state.  Also its Darwin at night, so the extra height is not needed in the conditions.

I'm going to be beat down on here but I thought while he had a extremely average first half I thought Dom showed poise with ball in hand and was one of very few who got us back in the game with his ball use, he didn't blaze away he moved with confidence and made good decisions.

No idea if that means he gets another chance this week. Just saying...

I would play Tyson again this week up in Darwin, and then rest him after, IF he doesn't star up there.

I would rest Petracca for Darwin;,, as I don't think his body shape suits the humid weather, and I think he won't recover as well as the others, following that game.

Again, I would rest Maxy from Darwin, bringing him back fresh for the game after.   I would go in with Pedo, Weide, and TMc as the rucks for Darwin.

I would play Jeffy in Darwin for sure, as well as Spargo and Baker.

With no racist intent implied, do DL'ers feel that Jeffy may lift in front of, what I would think, would be a predominently indigineous crowd?

Having said that, I seem to remember JKH having a 'mare last year or 2016.

Tyson should never play a game for the club again he's cooked.

Never rest Maxy he's fitter than he's ever been no need to rest him that's crazy talk.

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
