I say give Keilty a go over Petty. Dec is a mature age recruit who has been playing VFL for 4 years now and has been in good form. I don't think he would've looked anywhere near as lost as Petts did out there today.

Out: Petty (too soon) J.Smith Hannan Trac (managed)

In: Keilty (Drunkn was 100% on Fritsch and makes fair points) Vince Garlett Stretch

Those calling for Lewis to be dropped are the same calling for BOG Bernie, would’ve won today with Vince. Lewis was good.

Jones is finally being played outside, thankfully. He now needs to start being more damaging with less ball.

Out:

- our forward line coach

Fix them and we will be good!

Out: Goodwin needs a mid season break. He's lost the bloody plot.

Out, Petty, Smith, Hannan, Lewis ANB

In Baker, Frost, Pederson, Spargo Stretch

Baker not ready Lewis was ok despite a few brain fades other than that looks good

Out

  • Petty.  Was promoted too early and seemed lost / overawed all day.  It will smash his confidence even further if he is 'thrown to the wolves' again next week;
  • Hannan has done little more than kick a few cheap goals all season;
  • Tyson continues to be slow and indecisive.

In

  • Frost. At least we know what we will get from him.  I'm prepared to take some bad with the good.
  • Garlett.  I'm generally in favour of the mantra that players need to find form at Casey before being elevated, but not having a crumbing forward as part of the current structure is killing us.  Enough is enough!
  • Stretch has more than earned a call up through repeated, high level performances at Casey.

I'd like to make a couple more based on today's performance, but three is enough for one week.

Tyson had 7 effective disposals. 7!

God help me if he’s in the side next week.

We need to try something different. Stretch on a wing. Give him the rest of the season, as it’s now basically just a making up numbers game, and see if he can deliver something. At some point we got to find out for better or worse, or he will become a list clogger.

Out: Petty, ANB, Hannan, Lewis, Weideman, Tyson, Melksham
In: Frost, Spargo, Bugg, Vince, T Smith, Stretch, Baker

T Smith and Spargo should never have been dropped. Aggressive, tackling, smart players.

They dropped the wrong ageing defender.

And they picked Petty after he had a poor VFL game instead of when he played a superb game the week before. Battle has elite endurance was always going to run him around and force him in to mistakes. If he holds his marks he'll be a player when he's ready and when there's up field pressure.

Melksham has been non competitive since injury against the Dogs. More than had enough of him.

FB: Jetta  Oscar  Frost
HB: Vince  J. Smith  Hibberd
C; Baker   Oliver   Stretch
HF: Harmes  T Mc  Petracca
FF: Fritsch   Hogan   Bugg
Foll: Gawn  Brayshaw  Viney
Int: Jones  Salem  Spargo T. Smith

Time to really churn the midfielders and half forwards and find some guys willing to run, chase and use the ball skillfully.

Spargo, Baker and Stretch will give the team some run and dare. Bugg will add a competitive steak, as will the Bull, and then the backline will actually defend. The open space the Saints had going forward was nothing short of disgusting today.

Don't forget what's his name ;)

Petty should not have been played. To watch him after the siren trudge on the ground with his head down was miserable. He was thrown to the wolves and his confidence will be shot. Harmes was patting him on the back but Petty knew he had had a mare. Joel Smith wasn't much better and mad too many mistakes and was continually outmarked. Dec or Frost should have been the option.

Weid stays as he rucked ok and is the best 2nd ruck option relieving Max. His game wasn't as bad as ssome state here. Lewis is too slow for the backline unless he is an extra. The wing is as far back as he should go.

Spargo must return

Stretch deserves a game.  We get killed on the spread and thats where he can help.

Josh Kelly for Salem and Tyson.. FMD.

I too feel very sorry for Petty. It was a mistake to play him.

I thought we were done throwing kids to the wolves.

Agree. Just swapping 4 players that aren’t up to it for another 4 players who aren’t up to it.

Hardly weak against Port when the going got tough. Old Melbourne problem, against lower teams think it is a gimmee. Afraid Weids aint no Murray Weidemann. I would drop Petty and Weids and bring in Frost and Jeffy.

So now we can’t beat good sides AND bad sides.

We simply cannot carry petty he needs go go

Concern for me was that when Petty made his mistakes NOT ONE senior player got around him and supported him. Poor leadership across the board.

Ok, just heard that Fyfe has done a hammy. May be difficult for even us to stuff next week up (I said maybe)

Correct - just off Twitter

Fremantle has been dealt a huge injury blow, with Nat Fyfe suffering a hamstring injury, which seems to have ended his day | sen.lu/2KmPmDE | #AFLFreoLio

There must be a god after all.

Yeh look, with all due respect, you're his brother. So it's natural that you're going to say that.

Petty had some decent moments but also looked overawed at times today. It doesn't help when Goodwin plays such a ludicrous defensive setup that plays to no individual's advantage. We constantly have mis-matches with opponents and with O-Mac being our only 'experienced' key back, it's becoming really problematic given his drop-off in form. He is back to what he was last year.

Petty ain't the problem. And Dec coming in wouldn't magically change things. It's up to Goodwin now and whether or not he is ballsy enough to change some of what he 'thinks' is 'the way forward'. We've had the same [censored] issues for two years in regards to opposition scoring once inside 50.

It's disgusting.

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.
