Enjoy the weekend guys, what’s left of it..

6.  Nev - Had his initial opponent moved off him.  Then beat the next one etc.  Guts personified and potential goal saving nailed tackle on a much larger P(brain)Pepper was special.

5.  Viney - Just misses BOG for mine for hardly ever hitting up a loose outside player by hand or pretty much anyone by foot....straight ahead bomb bomb tumble punt ....almost always straight ahead!  Very rarely stops and props lowering eyes to go lateral/on the angle or handball backwards to a player in a better position who will have more time/space to hit someone up.  Needs to find some finesse and finish to take it to the next level and be a damaging match winner and star of the comp.  Needs to realise he can beat one or two tacklers much of the time, but taking on the entire mid field or defence is probably not going to work out well too often.

4.  Clarry

3.  Hibb

2.  Lewis

1.  Gawn

6. Jetta - An actual concussion with blood pouring out of his mouth couldn’t stop him competing for a ball when he came into his vicinity. The bloke is inspiring to watch.

Jones and Brayshaw might have nicer stats but their ball use throughout the night was horrendous.

Jones failed us tonight. He simply had to stand up  and win us a game on the big stage. Gets the ball yes,  but did very little with it .

He hit Brayshaw with a perfect pass and the umpire didn’t pay the mark in last 5 mins!

Yes it was unbelievably one sided. Port got paid 50s, frees and marks that were very soft.

So you thought he was worthy of 5 votes on the back of that?.

Jones  fails us every week.

Yet people think his Godd gift

Been poor for 2 years.

Said we should have traded him while we could get a second rounder.

Worth nothing now.

Just a list clogger and picked

for sentimental reasons.

Finally finished watching replay

6 Oliver - unbelievably clean hands and even ran and carried it a bit.

5 Viney - Guts personified but disposal was poor.

4 Brayshaw - BOG to half time and seriously clever.

3 Jones - sorry haters, but he worked his butt off like Viney.

2 Jetta - Super first half on Gray but his free in last was majorly costly.

1 Gawn - As with other midfielders he was in everything and had a good opponent to match up on.

Unlucky: Fritsch - Almost won it for us in final term.

Unlucky with umps: Melky must have gone close to decking one giving the treatment he copped,

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
