Quotes from the article:

"He was endorsed by the Demons board on Wednesday after being described as the standout candidate from a short-list of five. Pert, who comes with the blessing of the AFL, will replace Peter Jackson, who is contracted until the end of October".

"The Demons considered Pert the perfect fit for a club on the rise, as well as his expertise in new facilities as Melbourne is set to announce plans for a new training and administration base away from their current set-up at the MCG and adjacent AAMI Park".

For mine, he fits the bill of having a breadth of experience in clubs and the industry, knows his way around the halls of AFL HQ and is our Board's choice.

The more I think about it the more I like it.  He is a very good operator.

No leaks!  Well done MFC for keeping it quiet!

Big coup. Very experienced with many contacts in the media and corporate space. Given how things ended with the filth i imagine he will have a point to prove. Welcome.

Just read that too. I'm normally glass half full on anything MFC but very concerned about this.

I was told by a passionate Collingwood supporter who both he and wife had independent professional dealings with Pert that Pert was toxic at Collingwood. When I was told this Collingwood had just done it's review and Pert left. he even said to bet on Collingwood to make finals after he left because rifts would be healed.

Greg Denham article... “Pert best of short list of 5.

Took Pies from zeros to hero’s, doubled members and has expertise in new facilities with Melbourne expected to announce is expected to announce a move away from current MCG and AMMI Park set up.”

Paraphrasing but interesting all round.

On face value it appears a solid appointment, but I seem to recall Pie mutterings in Pert's last period as CEO.

I think, on the face of it, that it's a terrific appointment.

If the AFL and Peter Jackson are happy with it and endorse it, then I can't see a problem with it.  The bloke knows the game, knows how to be a CEO and has a good track record of doing good things.

Outside of rumours ad rumblings, which we have no idea how true they are, this seems like a great move for the club.

I wonder if Roosy was asked an opinion about this as they are former teammates and good friends still.

Anyway did not see this coming but good on melbourne because even the main footy reporters obviously didn't get the scoop. Maybe things arent leaking out anymore. When they talked about it on classified the other week Perts name wasn't mentioned. He has big shoes to fill.

I'm somewhat concerned hearing this.

PJ and the board have rarely set a foot wrong but how he left Collingwood has me concerned.

If he buys a very expensive desk then batten down the hatches.

Would have been tough as CEO with Eddie having his hands in everything.

Damn, I was hoping to get the CEO role....

Good luck to Pert, I think I would have been a more entertaining appointment...

We won't know if this will be a successful appointment for a few years yet, however, i much prefer a CEO with AFL experience as opposed to the likes of Paul McNamee/Tracy Gaudry coming from other sporting fields.

Approved by the AFL (which is still unfortunately a necessary tick), approved by the board and the stand-out candidate in a field of 5, of which PJ would have had the biggest say.

Comfortable with this decision, and what's more, it keeps Mahoney firing in his current role as Footy GM (another big tick).

I'm not a rumour type of person (unless there is a riddle) and I only met the person who told me this once but I spoke to the bloke for a couple of hours at a kids birthday party and he knew intimate details about the dees and certain players at the dees.

He was just glad Pert was gone for the culture of Collingwood. And said they would reap the benefits of him leaving.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
