If people are critical of the Kent pick well Hannebery's doesn't look much better:

Sydney get St Kilda's 2019 second round pick and pick 39 in 2018.  St Kilda receive Hannebery and and pick 28 in 2018.

Sydney are effectively letting him go for pick 39 (second round picks roughly net out).  The Hickey deal wasn't much better and the Rohan deal was similar to Kent's.

We have nothing to complain about.

Its a sign of the times that better clubs will trade to improve their list not to win minor trade battles.  That is what we have done.  Hawkes are doing similar to get Wingard.  Freo should take notice which is more important.

Holy Motors! That is one hell of a deal for a player on 4 × $800k.  As you say effectively pick 39.  The Saints didn't want to trade 4 and 39 was their next pick but that still doesn't make sense.  If I was Sydney I would've asked for future 1st.

Agreed!  Why on earth would Syd throw in pick 28.  Hannebery for #39 and Saints future 2nd round pick seems a very fair deal!!

Even that sounds low to me!  Salary cap dump!

It's a fair deal.  We couldn't expect much more than that when they could have held off and gotten him for nothing in the pre-season draft.

It's a shame to see him go but he wasn't crucial to our rise up the ladder.  Good luck to him at St. Kilda.

Looks like we will stockpile some late picks to offer up as a bundle to get pick upgrades.  Shame to see Kent go but he can't get his body right

Thanks Kenty for all your efforts. Especially getting the sealer over in the West.

Loved you at Melbourne Kent! The sealer against the eagles this year and that absolute Beauty against Essendon, 3 bounces down the wing and put us in front in the last. What a win that was in our dark days. The game against North a few years back from memory he kicked 3 and played a blinder! But the right decision has been made from all camps here. Kent is securing his future and Melbourne making the move easy. If Kent had injured his shoulder in the first quarter of the eagles game instead of a week later, I think we would have delisted him. So that pick is based on 1 game of footy. All the best Kenty, hope you can get your body right, except against us.

Yes, I remember this one against Essendon.  Was a rare bit of joy in an otherwise dark time.  The game against North certainly had everyone thinking that he'd arrived and we h8ad a real player on our hands.

Kent certainly teased with his bursts of brilliance and potential that unfortunately was never consistently delivered on for us.  As highlighted by others, a pragmatic trade in the circumstances and I have no hard feelings really, just some lingering frustration for what might have been.

Kent is a very good player would like to keep had him, but he is always injured, when fit he is best 22, but is injured, that the only knock on him, his body.

Now what do we need pick 65, and 62 for, is this draft that good?

No, not really... we get the cap space back, that we'll hopefully need to bring in fresh talent.

This part of this job is done.

I'd like to give my thanks as well to 'Kenty', for his time and efforts in a forlorn 'demon' outfit, for most of his time.

Good luck 'Kenty'...  fair well.

I can't wait for our teams to meet up, when your in the Sainters colours.

I can still remember the Cry Clarke Kent which never actually eventuated for us "hungry" Dee's supporters.

All the Best Dean, at your best you were very, very Good................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see why he wanted to go. More opportunities is what he wanted. All the best to him and I hope he can stay injury free.

Will always remember his wonderful goal against west coast to seal the win.

Like the male black widow spider who impregnates the female and then gets eaten... I will forever remember your goal against WCE only to do your ACL as your final act...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
