I thought he should have retired at the end of last season and today’s performance only reinforced that.

I've been off Lewis for a while now but I thought he was actually quite good in the last 10 minutes today.  His marshalling of the defence and his important late touches made a real difference.  He is a liability in that he is of no use when the game is at its quickest but as it slows down and becomes more of a slog he can find a useful groove.  He's not long for the AFL but I thought he did what was needed late today.  Having said that I'd think that when Lever and May return there won't be the same need for his generalship of the defence.

He literally handed them a goal in the last 10 minutes lol

Go back and look at all of the last 10 minutes.

I think you'll find that it was actually Oscar McDonald who did that.

Love him and everything he's brought to us been a champion of the game and an asset to the Dees but he's almost done

If we're focusing on individual moments, how about getting the free kick marking infringement in front of Roughead with 6mins to go, or his diving mark from the Jaeger inside 50 entry after the Bruess goal with 5 mins to go? That's two inside 50's repelled. And both of his free kicks found targets in Gawn & Hibberd.

Prefer Lewis to J. Wagner

I'd prefer Wagner piggybacking Lewis. Then we've got young legs mixed with seasoned football iq

Moving that fast would cause his Wig to fall off

Had a mixed day, mostly an off one unfortunately.  Looks like a fitness issue at this point and seems to be treading water going at about 55% of last year's usual output.  Might need to be managed a little when Nev returns.

Threaded the needle a few times with a change of direction coming out of the square to get us some great ground position but offered very little else unfortunately.

4 Premierships, a B&F and All Australian.  Proud to have Jordy at our club, providing leadership and direction to a very inexperienced backline.

I trust he will know IF/when it's time.

P.S.  Jordy should be on the D'land banner ....in place of May who's done zip for this club so far (assuming that IS May in the middle).

Total respect to Jordan!! however, washed up... Jesus how long can you accommodate poor form. clearly a very good footballer in his final days. Good bye and good luck.

What is the alternative?

This is what I want to know. I don't want him in the side, but need to know who we'd fill his spot with or what we'd do with a non like-for-like player. Very willing to discuss alternatives. The idea of on-field leadership is great (if it's actually happening), but we're hardly original recipe GWS having to field Power, Cornes, Brogan and Junior to help the kids.

100% Supermercado. It’s been the question for a while now as well. If the plan is to just throw J.Wagner in and expect him to control tempo, hit a composed kick on demand and organise the backline then forget it. Having said that to carry this kind of player for over half a season is a stretch (no pun).

I can’t see anyone becoming this role player any other way than choosing someone and just sticking them down there for a prolonged period of time, accepting mistakes might happen along the way in the process. Similar to persisting with Hunt up forward.

He seemed to lace out uncontested Hawks players more often than not today. It might almost be worth telling him to aim at opposition players and he might actually hit one of ours.

It seems a trifle, to rifle, a gun. Those who do are without patience. Let him weave his wisdom. He has contributed to many a win. The win today was yet another example. Let that stand. I stand with Jordan Lewis. So should you.

We will be better with him out of the team.  No disrespect to him, its same situation as Vince last season.  We couldnt play both Lewis and Vince.

Now its the same with Lewis and Jones.

If anyone has seen the last 2 minutes of the game video on the afl website. Look at lewis in the last minute. Mcevoy marks it deep in defence, gives it off to a burgoyne who gets a free kick. 40 secs left.  Lewis is further up the field pointing and directing. He guards space himself and has 2 hawks players within his vicinity. He mans neither of them but errs on the side of manning the guy further away from our goals leaving the other guy free over the top. Burgoyne hits him and hawks are now streaming down the field with lewis lagging behind.  in the last 20 secs amongst all the chaos, the ball spills to lewis who manages to fumble, but thankfully it didnt hurt us.

it just summed lewis up in 1 piece of play. Poor leadership and Incorrect game sense, slow on the transition and not clean.

I'm not saying he wasnt a gun in the past, but he isnt the same anymore.

Regardless of results he will need to be transitioned out of the side during the season in preparation for 2020 and beyond.

In 4-6 weeks we might see some guys come back. That's when we can talk about what we do with Jordie. Until then he is one of the only viable options we have got back there.

That was mainly Oscar’s fault. Just waited for the ball to come to him, allowed O’Brien to cut it off.

Goodwin more or less assured Lewis of continuous gifting of games in his press conference.

“He’s earned them.” Something about being a champion of the game

Far out Goody. Don’t preach the team first rhetoric and at the same time give me this rubbish.

He’s done. He was a jet, a MIDFIELD jet in a team full of stars many years ago.

He fell off the cliff a long time ago.

Can’t wait for Lever and May to get back in the team.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
