Demonland Player of the Year - Round 10

Demonland

Recommended Posts

6. Hoges presented, ran his opponent ragged and brought teamates into the game

5. Brayshaw - fantastic over 4 quarters and using the ball so well and strong at the clearances

4. Lever - very polished performance and very composed down back

3. Oliver - we take for granted what Clarrie does, he just does it with ease

2. Viney - Was typical JV hard at it and along with Clarrie Brayshaw and Max dominated the clearances

1. Nibbler - don't underestimate his running to create options and be vital as link up through transition.

Apologies to Bernie, Melksham, Hibberd, Jones and Jetta

............ and all of Lever, Oliver, Nibbler, Melksham and Vince could be added to that list, and not a single Demonlander would quibble!

6 - Brayshaw - The guy gets better each week. Works so hard. This is what we waited for

5 - Hogan - An impossible match up right now. Does damage anywhere.

4 - Jones - Another Nathan Jones game. Rarely wastes a possession

3 - Viney - Back in a big way, accelerating out of contests 20 contested possessions. Not 100% match fit yet but getting there.

2 - Hibberd - Always uses it. Responsible for many good plays off half back.

1 - Lever - A man possessed! Frustrated Crows attacks repeatedly.

A lot of guys were stiff. Maxy was sensational, would back him in against Simon Madden right now, Nibbler is back and lethal where it counts, and Milkshakes who is just a score involvement merchant.

Not the best performance overall yet great at times. Bad errors mixed in with some great play so we still have room to improve even on today’s great win.

In terms of real impact I saw it as:

6. Hogan

5. Hibbo

4. Viney

3. Lever

2. Melksham

1. ANB

I would like to have fitted Lever in RTG because he played a top game under enormous pressure but jeez Clarrie just got such a shitload of the ball!

He's a Romsey neighbour, isn't he?

Chook, I am the consistent glass half full guy not the guy that is ecstatic one week and threatening to throw myself off a building the next if things go pear shaped. We were generally good today but better sides will make you pay more for skill errors then the Crows did today.

Just out of interest the top 10 players statistically based on a weighted compilation of averages after Rnd 10 are....

1.  Clarry  5.14 (weighted score)

2.  Viney  4.37*

3.  The Jones Boy  3.74

4.  Lewis  3.69

5.  Gus  3.54

6.  T-Mac  3.52

7.  Hogan  3.50

8.  T Smith  3.41*

9.  Gawn  3.19#

10.  Harmes  3.10

*Denotes only 2 matches played so far ie., very small sample size vs others shown.

#Does not include hit outs to advantage, a stat specific to ruckman only.  Adding a token 0.75 to Maxy's result for example, would provide a more accurate picture of where he would likely be sitting if one was able to include the stat and somehow make it relative to the other scores.  That would put his score at approx 3.94 just behind Viney and technically at No.2 if you excluded Viney from the count having played only 2 matches so far vs 10 for Big Maxy.

I think if we have a better than 10 goal win we should allow for some extra votes because it is for sure a team winning in style. BTW 7 points Goodwin.

that said:

Hogan-it was 28 degrees people,  and he ran like an Ethiopian and kicked straight and a few score assists.

Angus-how damaging is a player that can use both feet.

Hibberd-(Lever as am alternate) early on this pair ruined every crow attack

Clarry-(Gawn could just as easily sit here) Contest King

Viney-the crows were scared of him.

Jones-taken for granted, he is still a beast.

finally... Jetta ANB Melksham are ripped off.

Think i am going to google some SA newspapers and maybe the SA forum.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
