Good, My son in law played for parkside, my son played for them and has been their footy manager for the last 5 years.

I’m up nice and early today. It’s a beautiful wintery morning, the birds are singing, Melbourne had a huge win, I get to watch my brother play high level football in just a few hours, and not to mention Jack Viney!

Imagine being a 19 year old Casey listed player, missed out on getting drafted, been playing well enough to squeeze into a packed VFL team, and as you run out on the day, the god damn Captain of the Melbourne Football Club is running next to you.

Cant wait too watch today’s game and hopefully it’s another big win. Carn the Dee’s!

I used to go to some of Parkside’s home games because my parents had a business nearby. The local fans were tougher than some of the players and I remember seeing opposition fans being chased at the end of games by thugs with axe handles. That area’s changed and has become gentrified so I can imagine fans being greeted with tea and hot scones with jam at half time these days.

My wish for today is that the boys at Casey get through the day and that Jack comes up cherry ripe for selection against the Blues.

A win against the Hawks would be an added and welcome bonus.

You know it's little things like not having to rush Viney back in to the AFL, that means were becoming a better team. (This fact should not be understated). A few years ago, we would have brought him back underdone and suffered the consequences later in the season. This is really good news

What do you mean a few?  They did it last year ?

It hasn't changed in that respect, probably gotten worse if anything.

I seem to remember you had a love for cats when Delan was drafted, very glad to hear that red and blue runs in your veins now Drunkn.

Good luck to Casey today, I think Jack will have limited game time, that is why he is playing ar Casey.

Yeah well 35 years ago things were very different, worse thing was that it was a practice match that didn't have an official umpire!

Instead of bloody repeat after repeat of panel shows, I would prefer to see VFL matches broadcast on our dedicated football channel.

JV should get around 70% game time today and hopefully be cherry ripe to come in next week to tear the blues apart.

Used to be known as Reservoir Parkside when I played in that comp. Len Fellows was their most well known player, all 6'7" of him. We played them once on a ground that had a slope and had a gravel area in the middle. That was in the junior comp, not the Metropolitan league.

Preston, Reservoir area was as tough as in those days, the Preston Town Hall dance on a Saturday night was like Festival Hall, there were so many fights and you would have to be crazy to go near the railway station after the dance.

Hawthorn too strong in the end, were dominant after half time and Sue “Tex” Perkins was too powerful up forward.

Hawks beat Casey 4-7-31 to 3-6-24 in Round 1 of the VFLW season

One a side note, in the past a women’s game before the VFL has tended to tear the ground up but Casey Fields is looking a treat. Id put that down to a higher skilled women’s game, not scrappy and tearing the grounds up the guts like it did in the past

Casey are looking very powerful before the game. Both the emergencies in Hunt and Garlett are playing, not to forget Jack Viney. Plus all the other Melbourne listed players. This should be a great game to watch.

Great start to the game with Viney getting the first cleanrence and JKH kicking the first goal thanks to a beauty of a kick from Mitch White

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
