This time next year brayshaws teeth and Jaw will be fine.

Gaff will still be a piece of [censored].

Sorry to say this is not your finest work.

(a)

At what point will bone be added to replace post extraction/traumatic bone loss so that implanted teeth can be placed?

(I’m guessing Dec 2018)

(b)

Could there be spiral root cracks that might take years to manifest?

See (a)

(c)

What on earth would happen if a similar blow - accidental or not - was delivered in the future to this sophisticated repair work?

There's a pretty good chance we'll be meeting West Coast twice over the next six weeks or so. Would have been a bit awkward with Gaff there. Shame he wont be available until our Anzac clash though.

Gaff out, West Coast team emptying of important players to injury each week. Umpire scrutiny keenly challenged in the last few weeks. These are things that a Demon supporter at this stage of this season likes to hear ... it would be good not to play the Toiges in our first week of the finals...

It knocked about $200k off his asking price, I'll tell you that much.

Gotta wonder if he'll stick with West Coast now.

Still chase him for 2019 - less cost is fine. Players sometimes learn from mistakes, particularly big mistakes like Gaff's.

This discussion brings to mind the ridiculous one-punch king-hit mandatory laws that have been introduced recently by our law-and-order politicians.  I hate such laws.  Every case should be examined on its merits taking into account all factors and the punishment should that all that into account.

If any of those pointing out the ameliorating factors for Gaff support the king-hit laws and other mandatory sentencing laws, I urge them to please think again.

The biggest problem I have with the current AFL MRO and tribunal is that it is outcome based and not action based.

Actions can be controlled, outcomes cannot.

I'm firmly in the camp that if you intentionally hit or strike a player, no matter how hard then a suspension should be enforced (as a starting point) and not just a fine.  Additional weeks are then added for any injuries sustained as a result.

I was hit in the mouth by a cricket ball after turning 17. I had shattered teeth which were also fractured under my gums.    Exposed nerves and a severely lacerated lip and gum also.... I endured 10 years of dental work including 2 years of wearing braces to expose these fractures and fix my teeth. It is Traumatic and pretty [censored] time!

I feel for Brayshaw. He is only 18. It brings back memories of my own!

I like Gaff and believe he had a brain snap and it is out of his character. However, what Andrew Brayshaw must endure for the rest of his life needs to be taken into account.

It is assault and should be a police matter. But it will not! Though, it won’t be long before this is the case in the sporting arena. If he did this in the street he would be facing court and a law suit for damages both physical and mental.

10-12 weeks for mine! I think he will get 8...

One Punch cowards are rife in society! This is an opportunity for the AFL and sporting community in general to make a stand. Because are courts do not!

It cannot do any damage to this club, as it would be up to Jones'y himself and his family, to choose. he is contracted till next year so it would be his decision alone, other than the Suns, and the AFL.

'The fool', is you F'd...  ever since you were insisting the club should be recruiting Toumpas over Wines or Grundy, back in that draft year. The best skilled playing in the draft apparently, hey Furious.

Yeah well.  That one worked a treat.  Did you whisper into Toddy's ear that day.

.

Stick to your strong suit F'd, and go hum some more.

.

Yep, got that one wrong, not on my pat Malone there.  Happy to admit it and in hindsight very very happy with the result. We pick Wines and Roos never comes and the club is probably still a mess.

You on the other hand are pretty much always wrong. Even asking Jones to leave would be a monumental slap in the face. It would [censored] him off after he stuck with us through everything and the younger guys, esp Braysh,  would be being told that no matter how good a servant you are we’ll treat you like crap when it suits us. Loyalty is a two way street and your idea would ruin all the gains we’ve made to our culture in the last 5 years

Gerard Whateley wants 12 weeks for Gaff.

Put it this way Feebs, if bugg got 6 for knocking Mills out with no broken jaw or missing teeth then i dont think 12 is far off the mark.

I've said 8, but AFL needs to make a stand so 12 is acceptable also. Stop jumper punches too and make it an automatic 2 weeks suspension, that'll remove it from the game you'd think.

It was a deliberate act unquestionably, but Gaff could not have expected his punch to have such a devastating outcome. When we call this a brain fade we mean a spontaneous yet deliberate act with unintended consequences. That's what this is, and it is out of character.

That won't prevent Gaff copping eight weeks as he should, but the character assassination around this is over the top. An otherwise talented ball player has a moment of madness. He is not Barry Hall, or Leigh Mathews for that matter.

But what does it do for our recruiting plans if he is realistically in our sights? He is cheapened goods, but playing alongside Angus could be problematic now.

Gaff would have to make his peace with the Brayshaw family and to secure Angus’s  forgiveness and blessing for Gaff to come here. Years ago Tony Lockett playing for the Saints decked and injured badly Peter Caven from the Swans. Next season Lockett went to the Swans and Caven was not happy, asked for a trade  and went to the Crows. The diffence is Gaff is not known for thuggery as Lockett was.

Agreed, and mandatory 'ducking' for a free, slipping into the hot contact domain that is so common, reducing the severity of the real offence when it is wilfully applied by an aggressor.

I'm not a dentist so can't comment on the dentistry side with modern technology. It will be expensive, that I do know.

Who pays for his treatment??

Definitely shouldnt be brayshaw.

Or freo.

The taxpayer shouldn't pay for this either.

If Angus was told the MFC wanted Gaff to improve the list and the prospects of a flag he wouldn't stand in the way of Gaff ending up at the Dees.

He'd be mature enough to know it was out of character and he'd mend any bridges that needed mending.  He'd look at the bigger picture.

Well if I were Gaff, I'd be paying for it, unsure that'll happen though. Insurance will cover it.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
