Andrew Gaff

The strong clubs have built their lists first from the draft, then after a period of development, traded in players to fill specific roles (unless an absolute gun wants in). What are our specific needs? Obviously outside speed is one, so Gaff would fill that bill, but if Gaff and Norf have paid massive overs we would be silly to also pay massive overs. We need to look elsewhere. Fingers crossed we have other irons in the fire, and fingers, toes and eyes crossed if one of those irons is Josh Kelly.

Harmes has been terrific

I’d still have Gaff over ANB thanks.

I've just been walking thru big-footy rumours.

Its shaping the at other rumours have surfaced just in the last couple of weeks or so,,, like Gaff to Cats, and other clubs, etc. This seems to have come out, since around the time Gaff struck young Brayshaw...  under duress?

I wondering strongly, if WE made it official at that time, to the gaff camp, that we were out of the running, for Gaff.

I sense if that's the case, that we have changed our minds, and we have found a different suitor to our needs.

A left field one.  What chance Cyril ?

Mark Stevens now reporting Gaff to North is getting louder. Without stating how he came to reporting this I’m just going to assume he heard it from Tom Morris.

If Gaff wants to come home for family reasons, then he would likely take the biggest offer, unless his preferred club, was in the ball park.

I am guessing if the 7 year offer at $1.2m by North is on, we may have just given up, as weren't even close.

If we were at 6 x $800k for example, total $4.8m and North is $8.4m, he would be mad to turn up $3.6m approx, give or take.

This is his big chance to set himself up for life. I wouldn't blame him for taking the money, most would and do.

I would guess we would be looking at other players now.

Hogan is better than Lynch. Only way Hogan leaves is if he asks to leave.

I don't know why we don't sit on what we got and make a move for J.Kelly at the end of next season.

Honestly just taking the [censored] with that one. I heard a month or 2 ago we were looking into Hall, but nothing since regarding him. I believe he is seen as a fallback option if we miss out on Gaff, which is unfortunately likely.

I'm sorry but how would a poster on the gold coast have 'knowledge' of this. What kind of intel do you have?

None.  He said just a few days ago that Gaff would definitely be a Demon.

I'm still confident we will get Gaff. Jackson said a while ago we have room for one big fish. Why not Gaff? He must have watched us dismantle them on their home deck. He must be interested. Why would you want to go to North who are an overachieving nothing club?

I understand the dislike of North, but how can you call them underachieving in one breath, and then say he would be mad not to come to us in the next? Sure, we have a fabulous young list with a bright future, but we’ve done nothing for a long time. North finished 2 games behind us and have some exciting young players. If Gaff is offered $400,000 a year more by North, where do you reckon he is going?

They have an ordinary list and overachieved finishing 9th. They won't make the finals they should be a bottom of the ladder club even with Gaff. Gaff wants to play finals your guaranteed that with Melbourne not with North.

I'm really not sure why posters are so convinced Gaff is off to North.

Polec is about to go there on enormous money so I find it extremely difficult to believe North would pay another bucket-load to a similar outside running player? It really doesn't make any sense to me from a list management pov.

Not that it means much, but I happened to bump into Gaff last week playing golf at Camberwell. I had a chat to him and told him I hoped to see him running around in our colours next year, to which he responded; "I've got a bit to think about over the next few weeks."

My feeling is that we're still very much in the frame. My brother played school footy with him and has said he's a very honest kid who was a big dees fan growing up as most are aware. His father hasn't been well either which is obviously a massive factor in his decision.

Players go home to play at their club of choice sometimes even if it's for less money. Jeremy Howe for instance took less to go to Collingwood over the Gold Coast to play under Buckley who was his favourite player as a kid.

I'm still confident.

He is clearly waiting until Eagles season is over.

If figures reported/mentioned are true, he would be sacrificing about $3m-$3.5m to play with us. Can't see that happening.

Yeah nah.

I’d be okay with $900K a year for 4 years with the knowledge you’re probably going to play in Grand Finals.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
